Air Force to begin low-level trainings missions over Bowman and Slope Counties

n the near future, the United States Air Force will start flying low-level training missions over the Bowman and Slope Counties. According to Airspace Manager George Stone, a representative from Ellsworth Air Force Base, the low level trainings could involve highspeed aircraft flying as low as 500 feet above the ground. Last week, Stone gave a presentation at the Bowman Lodge and Convention Center to address questions and concerns about how the low level military operations might affect the local area. Specifically, Stone said that low-level trainings have many benefits for real world military operations. Low-level flying can help aircraft remain hidden, however to

Local farming family and former senator honored at 2019 Harvest Bowl Awards

ast week producers from all over the state gathered in Fargo to celebrate the 2019 Harvest Bowl Awards. Every year, select agriculturists and producers from 53 counties in North Dakota and seven counties in Minnesota are honored at the NDSU Harvest Bowl program. There, the program recognizes the hard work and dedication of agriculturists across the state. This year, the Bowman Extension Office and an advisory committee nominated local producers Jerry and Patricia Palczewski for the Harvest Bowl honor, and Former North Dakota State Senator Bill Bowman was also recognized at the event and awarded the agribusiness award. Now retired, the Palczewskis ranched sheep and cattle and farmed south of Scraton for over 50 years. Throughout their years of producing, they stuck to conservation-minded agricultural practices, including no-till farming, cover crops, waterways and tree plantings for soil health. Jerry, a 1968

Bowman Sophomore accepted into area music festivals BY FRANK TURNER

fter weeks of practice and multiple auditions, Alyssa Buckman, a sophomore choir student from Bowman County School, was accepted to the Northwest International Festival of Music at Minot State University and the Northern Plains Music Festival at Dickinson State University. At the festivals she joined over a hundred other high schools in the tri-state (North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana) region to sing in a regional choir. According to Charmaine Martian, Bowman County School’s band and choir director, choir students have to go through an intense audition process to be accepted into the regional festivals. To be considered, Buckman had to audition with a wide range of music selections, including mu-

five music pieces and rehearse the music separately before the festival. Then at the

festival, the students form a mass choir and spend two days putting everything together for

a large performance at the end of the week.

The success, dedication and hard work of outstanding agriculturalists in 53 counties in North Dakota and seven counties in Minnesota were honored during the 46th annual Harvest Bowl program at North Dakota State University, on Nov. 8.

Jerry and Patricia Palczewski, now retired, raised sheep, along with a few cattle and crops near Scranton using no-till farming practices, cover crops, waterways and tree plantings to promote soil health. Students from the Class B schools are competing against students that just focus on music all the time.” At the Minot festival, Buckman sang in the women’s choir as a tenor. Buckman said the experience was an unnerving but also unforgettable experience. “Leading up to the festival I was anxious and nervous, but once I got to the actual choir, sat down, and just started singing, it was just fun,” said Buckman. “During the breaks, you get to the know the people around you, and I actually made some really good friends.” She continued, “I think I will always keep music in my life. I’ll keep going to these festivals because I meet new people and learn a lot about my voice. Maybe in the future I can have a teaching degree where I do something with music."

In Minot, well over a hundred kids gathered to create three choirs and two bands.” Buckman, who has been involved in choir for over four years, said she was elated when she discovered that she qualified for both the Minot and Dickson music festivals. Last year, Buckman auditioned for both festivals but only qualified for the Dickinson festival. “I was super excited to go to Dickinson and Minot,” said Buckman. “Getting into both was really exciting.” Overall, Matian said that Buckman getting accepted into the festivals was a “huge accomplishment” and one worth celebrating. “It’s a huge accomplishment because students are compet-

PASTOR'S CORNER: To Be A Saint FATHER PAUL EBERLE I was asked recently by the youth of our parish how a person becomes a saint. I explained the best I could. I told them God’s love makes a saint. We have the freedom to choose to accept or deny God’s love, which he pours out upon us at every moment of our

life. God’s love holds our life in existence. Our daily prayer, our heart to heart conversation with Jesus, deepens our union with him, a union that is at the heart of heaven, for heaven is not only a place but a relationship with the Trinity that is fostered here and now. To a certain extent, when all is well and we live in the freedom of our relationship with

God, we already experience a bit of heaven on earth. Saints imitate Jesus, and they exude the light of Jesus. The following “Jesus Prayer” by St. John Henry Newman (1801-1890), which was recited daily after receiving Holy Communion by St. Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa) and her Sisters of Charity, is an excellent prayer we can pray daily to help us be saints.

“Dear Jesus, help me to spread your fragrance wherever I go. Flood my soul with your spirit and life. Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly that my life may only be a radiance of yours. Shine through me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel your pres-

he Wallmans were selected for their conservation efforts to manage and strive for a healthy native landscape on their ranch. The abundant wildlife and diversity on their ranch, are positive reflections on the Wallmans successful conservation management. The Wallman’s were selected by the Bowman-Slope Soil Conservation District (SCD) Board Members, pictured. This is a biannual award and the Wallmans will be honored at the North Dakota Association of Soil Conservation Districts Annual Convention in Bismarck. The Bowman-Slope SCD

CITY OF BOWMAN BIDS FOR CLEANING SERVICES The City of Bowman is accepting bids for the weekly cleaning of Bowman City Hall and the Joint City/County Shop for the year 2020. Bids shall be for the monthly cost to clean City Hall and a monthly cost to clean the Joint Shop, bid separately. All services must be completed during non-business hours, on weekends and around the meeting room schedule (City Hall). Bids must be enclosed in a sealed envelope marked: City Hall Cleaning Bid, Joint Shop Cleaning Bid, or list both if bidding on both buildings. Bid specs may be picked up at the City Auditor’s office during regular office hours. Questions should be directed to the City Auditor office at 523-3309.
