Whales in Oregon!
People come from all over the world to learn about gray whales that travel along the Oregon Coast. Whales are visible all year long though some months are better than others. Nealy 18,000 gray whales migrate from mid-December through mid-January south to the warm lagoons of Baja, Mexico. Spring watching starts in March as the whales travel north on their way to Alaska. The first surge swims past Oregon around the end of March through June. Summer and fall bring Oregon’s resident whales close to shore to feed. There are about 200 whales that remain in Oregon’s coastal waters during the summer mirgation. The Central Coast is a particular hot spot for whales from June to mid-November and Oregon State Parks celebrates the mirgration twice a year during Whale Watch Weeks in late December and early March.
