Burden’s Muffle & Towing Service is a third generation Tillamook business.
Burden’s Muffler Towing & Crane Service Inc. is a third generation Tillamook business, that was started in 1970 by Don & Linnea Burden when Sylvia was 6 months old. Don first had the Texaco station at the North entry to downtown Tillamook. Eventually Don wanted more room and purchased the Enco Station directly across the street. Don had a pit built in the one end of the shop and added on to the building for two more work bays, with a fenced yard in the back for wrecked vehicles. Their daughter Sylvia worked during her school years and Linnea Burd eventually full time. Rick was basically raised at the business en and just enjoys convincing Dad to purchase more trucks to add to our fleet. We currently have three crane trucks and have added a semi & landoll trailer to the fleet. Jeremy & Justin Schriber (Sylvia’s) boys have both joined the family business, Jeremy while still and High School, and Justin after completing West Coast Training for Crane Trucks and was put to work with us full time in 2020.

Welcome to the Tillamook County Fair T
he Tillamook County Fair is finally here and it all happens Aug. 10 - 13. With a little something for everyone, this year’s fair is not to be missed. Open 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. with the Tillamook County Fair’s 2022 theme, “Hay Bales & Cow Tails.” The Tillamook County Fair’s carnival area opens at noon each day, with a variety of rides and games for kids big and small. Back by popular demand, Rainier Amusements will be offering “All You Can Ride” bracelets for $30 if purchased by Tuesday Aug. 9. Ride bracelets and fair tickets can be purchasede on the Fair’s website: tillamookfair.com Pari-Mutuel Horse Racing will again be providing four days of racing excitement, with races starting around 1 p.m. daily, Wednesday through Saturday. Brad’s World Reptiles will be a fun focal point in Fair Acres, along with some of the favorite kids’ activities like Farmer For A Day and educational displays from local school districts. The Tillamook County Fair’s Courtyard stage will host free entertainment for fair-goers each day, with Brad’s
World Reptiles demonstrations, ice cream tasting contests, Brian Bon’s Powerhouse Percussive Dance, and more. The Fair’s Concert Series kicks off the Wednesday with Stone In Love, a Journey tribute band. Thursday’s night concert showcases The Marshall Tucker Band. And rounding out the concert series Friday is headliner Ryan Hurd. All concerts are free with your Fair admission. Concerts are held in the Averill Arena Grandstands starting at 8 pm Wednesday through Friday. Of course, you don’t want to miss the traditional Pig-N-Ford races, happening at 5:30 p.m. each night in the Grandstands. Saturday night culminates the end of the Fair with the annual Demolition Derby at 7:30 p.m. And what would a Fair be without food? From coffee, elephant ears, corn dogs, and burgers…to pasta, tacos, Philly cheesesteaks, and deep fried Twinkies, you’ll never be hungry. Come for the food, stay for the fun. The Tillamook County Fair runs Aug. 10-13, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. each day.

Problem Gambling is Preventable Gambling is an activity that carries risk for both individuals and families. Risks of gambling include relationship strain, financial trouble, increased depression and anxiety, and decreased physical health. Prevention strategies can help reduce the risks of harm. Strategies include, learning the warning signs of problem gambling, creating responsible gambling guidelines, and by having conversations about gambling. Continue reading to learn more. Warning signs • Spending more and more time gambling. • Increasing gambling time and places. • Increasing bet sizes. • Creating special occasions for gambling. • Increasing intensity of interest in gambling. • Gambling to escape problems. • “Chasing” losses with more gambling. • Decreasing desire to engage in other activities and interests. • Frequent absences from school, work and home.
• Withdrawal from family and friends. • Diversion of funds earmarked for other purposes. Responsible Gambling Guidelines: • If you choose to gamble, do so for entertainment purposes. • Set a time and dollar limit and stick to it. • Expect to lose. • Make it a private rule not to gamble on credit. • Create balance in your life. • Avoid “chasing” lost money. • Don’t gamble as a way to cope with emotional or physical pain. • Drinking alcohol while gambling carries additional risk. (Alcohol and gambling are not a good combination. If your night out includes drinking its best not to gamble). Pari-Mutual Horse Racing 1 p.m. post time each day P
ari-Mutuel Horse Racing will be providing fun, excitement and a chance to wager during the Tillamook County Fair again this year. There will be four days of Horse Racing with eight races on Wednes-day, Thursday, and Friday and nine races on Saturday. Post time will be 1:00 p.m. each day. Horsemen will be vying for over $100,000 in purse money thanks to the support from the Oregon Racing Com-mission, Oregon Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders Association, Oregon Horseman’s Benevolent Protective Association and Oregon Quarter Horse Racing Association, as well as local businesses and families sponsoring twelve feature races. An excellent field of hors-es to wager on is expected for this year’s Race Meet and Jockey’s will again be competing for bonus money from the Oregon Racing Commission for participating in the Race Meet. We would like to give a special thank you to Chinook Winds Casino and Resort for sponsoring the halter and lead ropes for this year’s Race Meet and Tillamook County Fair for sponsoring blankets to the winners.

he annual Pig-NFord races are world famous and have been a part of the Tillamook County Fair for the past 98 years. This event always fills the Averill Arena/ Grandstands to capacity! There are two races Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, starting at 5:30 pm each day. Winners of each race will compete in the Championship Finals Saturday, immediately following the two qualifying races. Opening the Fair’s concert series on Wednesday night is Stone In Love, a Journey tribute band that performs faithful renditions of classic hits from one of the most beloved rock groups of all time.
