Big Loud, Wallen Dominate Country Airwaves

A bit past the halfway point in the 2024 chart year (you can almost hear the social media chants – “just 23 more weeks”), it appears Big Loud is on a path to repeating as Country Label of the Year (below). Big Loud artists’ 11 charted hits are the most of any label thus far and make it the only label with double-digit chart share. Its four percent lead over Broken Bow is propelled by Morgan Morgan Wallen Wallen, who is part of six charted songs and far and away the format’s top airplay points leader. Leading the No. 1 song of the year race is relative newcomer Nate Smith’s sophomore single “World On Fire” (see top 25 songs, page 7).

Top 10 airplay chart share labels are:

1. Big Loud 12.2% 2. Broken Bow 7.9 3. RCA 7.8 4. Columbia 7.1 5. MCA 6.8 6. Warner/WEA 6.7 7. Stoney Creek 5.4 8. Big Machine 5.3 9. Warner/WAR 4.6 10. Nashville Harbor 4.4 Methodology: The 2024 chart year runs Nov. 12, 2023 to Nov. 9, 2024. Airplay points for this update are tabulated though May 25, 2024. One hundred-one songs spent at least one week on the current chart in that window and are credited for all current and recurrent airplay. Collaborations are credited to each artist’s label in full – each receives 100% of the airplay points amassed by the song. As always, airplay is from our friends and partners at Mediabase 24/7. Big Loud’s double-digit chart share is led by Wallen. Hardy’s “Truck Bed” (5) adds mightily to the label’s shares, with Ashley Cooke, Hailey Whitters and Miranda Lambert also contributing. Broken Bow lands in second place, fueled by the Jelly Roll with Lainey Wilson hit “Save Me” (2). (continued on page 7)

Country’s Top Billing Stations

The top 10 billing Country stations for 2023 remain the same as 2022’s, with the only change being to a couple of ranks. Total revenue for the top 10 was down 4.9%, according to data provided to Country Aircheck by BIA Advisory Services. Among the top 10, no station saw an increase in revenue, with Cumulus KSCS/Dallas seeing the slightest decline, down just 1.3%. Audacy’s KILT/Houston and WUSN/Chicago remain in the top two positions, with revenues of $16 and $13.1 million respectively, followed by Beasley’s WXTU/Philadelphia, iHeartMedia’s KEEY/ Minneapolis and KSCS. As with 2022, only the top four stations cleared the $10m revenue mark. (continued on page 3)
