Former iHeartMedia WMAD/Madison, WI midday personality and cluster Dir./Promotions Isaac “Brooks” Wenzel has joined Cumulus WFMS/Indianapolis as MD/afternoon host. On-air, Wenzel succeeds Jack Shell, who exited in October (CAT 11/4/19); he takes over MD duties from Adam “Kash” Kashner, who has segued to the company’s WXBM/ Pensacola, FL (CAT 12/18/19). “His passion for country music, relatable personality on the air and breadth of skills behind-the-scenes make Isaac ideally suited for this job,” says OM/ PD Christopher “Boomer” Layfield. KSE/Denver SVP/MM Brenda Egger has been named iHeartMedia/Denver Region Pres. overseeing 31 stations, including Country KWBL/Denver and KCCY/Colorado Springs. She succeeds Tim Hager, who has exited after four years. “We have a tremendous team and strong brands in the Denver region, and I am confident that Brenda’s tenure in the region provides the leadership and excellence that our partners and our advertisers have come to expect,” says Division Pres. Country listening continues to decline, according to Nielsen’s Tops of 2019: Radio report. The format ranks third P25-54 behind AC and Pop CHR, slipping 7.3% (4) to 7.0% (3t) to 6.8% (3) of listening over the last three years. Country ranks second P18-34 – 8.4% (2) to 8.5% (2) to 7.7% (2) – and third 6+ – 7.6% (3t) to 7.3% (3) to 6.7% (3). See all formats here.

Capitol’s Carrie Underwood is stepping down from co-hosting the CMA Awards after 12 years in the role, according to a post on social media. “It’s hard to believe that it was my 12th year hosting and I will always treasure every show, from the 11 that I was so lucky to do with my partner in crime and friend for life, Brad Paisley, to sharing the stage with two of my all-time heroes,” she shared. “I’m so incredibly grateful to everyone involved with the CMA Awards all these years. It’s hard to imagine topping what we have accomplished together, so I’ve decided that it’s time to pass the hosting torch (at least for now!) to others that will cherish it and honor it as much as I do.” The CMA added, “Thanks for 12 amazing years hosting the CMA Awards. We look forward to working with you in 2020 and beyond to Carrie help spread Country Music to fans around Underwood the world!” See that post here. Former Guaranty WTGE/Baton Rouge midday personality Carley McCord was among five people killed in a private plane crash Dec. 28 in Lafayette, LA. McCord, who had most recently served as a freelance sports reporter for NBC affiliate WDSU-TV/New Orleans, was 30. She was en route to the Peach Bowl in Atlanta where her father-in-law, LSU Offensive Coord. Steve Ensminger, was with the team. McCord left WTGE in 2018 to pursue sideline reporting on a full-time basis (CAT 9/20/18). A memorial scholarship has been created in McCord’s name at her alma mater, Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. Those wishing to contribute may do so here.
