Counties Sport Fishing Club We are a family friendly West coast club based in Waiuku, just south of Auckland. With around 1000 members, trailer boats make up the majority of our fleet. Celebrating fishing of all kinds, from the humble Gurnard to the mighty Broadbill. Club waters span from Raglan north head to Kaipara south head and include the Manukau harbour and Waikato river.

New and Used Boats, Motors, Accessories, Servicing They have a reputation for good quality workmanship, honesty and reliability. The onsite technicians are experts in Mercury, Etech, Evinrude & Johnson servicing and repairs as well as Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda. They can also fit new or used outboard engines and do trailer repairs, springs, winches and rollers.

Bits & Bobs Covid Restrictions and Postponed Events Due to the current alert level we are obviously unable to hold any club activities and have already had to postpone several events. We will try our best to re-schedule these once we are allowed to do so. These events may well be organised with very short notice, so please keep an eye on our facebook page where we will announce any events.
Trophy Return -Now URGENT If you were fortunate enough to receive a trophy at prizegiving last year it is now time to return it ready for this years prizegiving. Trophies can be returned to Steve Watts (0210335145) or drop them in to DKM fishing. If you still have a trophy get it returned NOW.
Date Change for 2022 Classic Please note that the date for the 2022 Counties Classic is now 11,12,13 March 2022.

Not surprisingly there has not been much happening this month so not many fishing photos for you. But Brock Johnston made the most of being able to fish from the shore under level 3.
We have QR posters for the big green shed, which will be prominently displayed whenever there are competitions or meetings there. Please use the Covid Tracer app to sign in when you are there.

Cleveland / Counties Interclub Competition This years interclub competition was to have been held on the 25th and 26th of September. We are hoping that it can be re-scheduled once we are at an alert level that allows it to happen.
Counties “Biff ya shit out” Surfcasting Competition Last year saw the return of a surfcasting competition to our annual callendar. This year it’s back, bigger and better and with a new name. This year the competition will be held on the 20th of November, so get that date in your diary. Dig out your surfcasting gear and get out for some practice.

Meat Raffles While it has not been possible to get out on the water to grab a feed, it has been possible to get a great feed by entering the Counties Sport Fishing Club Meat Raffle. With prizes supplied by our sponsor, the excellent Waiuku Village Butcher this was a great opportunity to win some tasty prizes.
Tickets were $10 each and limited to just 50 tickets, which sold out very quickly. We have so far run two raffles and will hopefully be running more in the future. Keep an eye on our facebook page for announcements of any future raffles -and get in quick. If you don’t manage to win you can still get some great meat products from Waiuku Village Butcher, who are taking orders online and delivering during level 3 and offering click and collect. Thanks to our chairman, Dougie, for drawing the raffle. He selflessly drank all the beer so we had enough bottle tops to put all the numbers on for the draw. Then threw them away and had to do it all again when we decided to have another draw, it’s a tough job but someone had to do it.

Counties Clevedon Inter-club Competition Postponed It’s that time of year again, when we do battle with Clevedon to see who gets the inter-club trophy this year. We have always done well in this competition, but as you can see from last years results below we didn’t do quite so well last year. So this year we need to field a really strong team to bring the trophy back. Contact Bob Hilton on 027 4880563 if you want to be on the Counties team this year. This is a real fun competition and there is a great prize-giving at the end of the competition, this year Clevedon will be hosting that.

Fisheries Changes As I am sure you are all aware several fisheries reviews have just taken place, probably the most important to most members being the SNA8 and GUR1 fisheries that cover the West coast. Some of you made submissions on this matter, and to all of you who did a huge thank you. The decisions reached by the fisheries minister were announced recently. For the SNA8 fishery the lowest increase in commercial catch was chosen and for the GUR1 fishery the largest reduction in commercial catch was chosen. This is exactly what we were asking for and it is a great result for the fisheries. One other decision that will be relevant to some is the Hapuka and Bass HPB1 and HPB2. This fishery is in a poor state and to reflect that the commercial and recreational catch has been reduced. A new recreational limit of two fish per person per day and a maximum accumulation of three fish per person for a trip of longer than 1 day.
