Counties Sport Fishing Club We are a family friendly West coast club based in Waiuku, just south of Auckland. With around 1000 members, trailer boats make up the majority of our fleet. Celebrating fishing of all kinds, from the humble Gurnard to the mighty Broadbill. Club waters span from Raglan north head to Kaipara south head and include the Manukau harbour and Waikato river.

The onsite technicians are experts in Mercury, Etech, Evinrude & Johnson servicing and repairs as well as Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda. Bits & Bobs Farewell Helen and Len Sporty App Video Tutorial
Our long serving radio operators Helen and Len Martinson have finally hung up their microphone. They are moving away from Waiuku to be nearer to their family. We would like to wish them all the best for this move and to offer our huge thanks for the service that they have given the club.

Small Fry The small fry category in our leader board is for any member up to the age of 11. There are separate trophies at prize-giving for small fry. These young fishers are the future of our club and we want to encourage them as much as possible. Numbers of fish weighed in this section have been low, so please do get your catch weighed if you think it could beat the current fish on the leader board. To get your fish weighed just contact any of the listed weigh-master contacts on the leader board page at the end of this newsletter. If they cannot weigh your fish they will put you in contact with someone who can.

Interclub 2020 The yearly Counties -Clevedon Interclub competition is coming up very soon, on Saturday 31st October and Sunday 1st November. We have always done well in this competition and would like to get Counties name on the trophy again this year. Contact Bob Hilton on 2357359 or 027 4880563 if you want to be on the Counties team.
Last years team and the scoreboard. Great score for Counties last year, but there was only one fish in it the year before. A great chance to get out and support your club. We are hosting the prizegiving this year, so it will be held here on the Sunday. As in previous years we will be collecting any fish you want to donate and distributing them to the charity grandparents caring for grandchildren. This is a great cause to support, as some of the people who benefit would not normally be able to aford fresh fish for their family.

Prizegiving 2020
Due to the lock downs this years prize giving was later than usual and had to be held at quite short notice, but lots of our members managed to get to the Cossie club to celebrate the achievements of another years fishing. Despite a difficult year there were some great achievements, and the full results are on the following pages. There was a very special award this year, with Steve Watts being awarded life membership for his outstanding service to the club. I’m sure you are all well aware of the work Steve does, but it’s still worth mentioning again. As head weigh master he co-ordinates all the weighing of fish that we do, and also maintains all the weighing equipment ensuring it is properly calibrated and up to standard. In many of our competitions he regularly gives up his fishing time to be on hand to get the fish weighed. During nationals he does a phenominal amount of work getting all our results logged with NZSFC. And prize giving could not take place without someone keeping track of all the fish weighed over the year -that someone is Steve. So, from everyone in the club a huge THANK YOU for all the work you do.

Every Kiwi needs to see this.. An amazing eye opener. A very well researched and presented doco! thanks to all for making it.....it is well beyond time that the QMS was taken out the back and shot and from those ashes build an actual "world leading" example of fisheries management. The formula for a better future is already available...check out... RESCUE FISH Great doco guys. I encourage everyone to watch fully. Excellent eye opening doco. Im fully in support of an overhaul of the quota management system, as a kiwi im not sure where to go from here. Im sure 95% of kiwis are also in support... what do we need to do to help?

Set Net Ban From the 1st of October the set net ban in place in the harbour has been extended. The previous area is shown in dark blue on the map to the right, with the new extensions shown in orange. The exact location of the end points is shown in the pictures below. These are part of the Hectors and Maui dolphin threat management plan and apply to commercial and recreational fishers. More information can be found on the Fisheries web site HERE

LENGTH RECORDS we need a clear photo of the fish on the approved measure, which are available for $25. The photo must be of the whole fish lying on its side with the mouth touching the head of the measure. We will need details of where it was caught and the name of the angler.
