Counties Sport Fishing Club We are a family friendly West coast club based in Waiuku, just south of Auckland. With around 1000 members, trailer boats make up the majority of our fleet. Celebrating fishing of all kinds, from the humble Gurnard to the mighty Broadbill. Club waters span from Raglan north head to Kaipara south head and include the Manukau harbour and Waikato river.

The onsite technicians are experts in Mercury, Etech, Evinrude & Johnson servicing and repairs as well as Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda. They can also fit new or used outboard engines and do trailer repairs, springs, winches and rollers.

Bits & Bobs Clears Stolen from Green Shed Some time between the start of September and the 1st of November someone has stolen all the clears from the side of the big green shed at te Toro. If anyone has any information, or if you saw the clears still in place after the start of September, please get in touch. We are offering a reward for the return of the clears, in usable condition, or information leading to the prosecution of whoever stole them. There are four of them, each approx 4m x 4m, as seen in this photo from this years Fish N’ Chicks competition.
Club Marine to Close NZ Operations From the 1st December Club Marine Insurance will not be accepting any new business or renewing any current policies in New Zealand. If you are insured with them your current policy will remain fully valid until it expires, but you will not be able to renew it. You should receive a letter from them ahead of your policy ending to let you know that you need to find new insurance. If you are currently insured with Club Marine, make sure you get alternative insurance in place ahead of your policy ending.

Mishap on Constable Road Many of you will have already seen these pictures, or maybe even the aftermath of the recent incident when a boat was dropped off its trailer on Constable Road. A timely reminder to us all to make sure that our boats are securely fastened onto their trailers. Never rely on the winch to hold your boat, it should have a safety chain on the front and be securely fastened down to the trailer at the back. As well as avoiding a nasty incident like this it could also save you money, the police have been known to fine people towing insufficiently restrained boats.
Great to see some of the younger club members getting out there catching fish, here are Zac MacEwan, Seanna Curley and Miller Burns showing off some recent catches.

Marlin Hooked Closer to home a blue marlin was hooked off Whangaroa on Sunday the 15th November, but unfortunately got dropped just short of the boat.
It’s Getting Hot Here
A new record for a Blue Marlin in the Cook Islands was caught recently. Skipper Paku Poila on the boat Manakia caught this monster 474.2 kg fish. That’s a grander in old money!!

Nationals 2021

First Mortgage Trust will provide 8 x $250 vouchers as a daily lucky angler prize and 3 club prizes. These will be in the form of a donation of 1st $1,000, 2nd $750 and 3rd $500 to the winning club as a donation for the purposes of betterment of the club. 8
For the 2021 Nationals we are having custom made shirts for teams from Counties who are entering. These will only be available to participants in the competition. The cost will be $65 for shirts and $55 for singlets plus $25 entrance fee for the Nationals 2021. Boat names on the rear of the shirt will be updated to reflect the entrants in 2021, last years entrants shown as an example. You can choose a long sleeved shirt, polo shirt or singlet and they are available in mens or ladies fit in sizes from XS to 6XL -sizing chart at bottom of page. So these can be printed in time for the competition orders MUST be placed and paid for by 20th December. Orders can be placed on the Sporty App, via our web site or at the November club meeting. Shirts are under merchandise and Nationals entry is under events registration.

Interclub 2020 It had to happen one day, Counties have held this trophy for some years now but this year it was won by Clevedon. It was quite a resounding victory, as you can see from the score board below. Due to unfortunate timing our team was a little depleted from previous years as several of our usual competitors could not make it this year, and Clevedon simply out-fished us on the day. It will be all to play for next year, so please everyone put the date in your diaries as soon as it is announced and lets get a full strength Counties team to bring the trophy back next year.

As we were hosting this years event it was down to us to provide the food. A team filleted some of the fish caught that day, which was expertly prepared and cooked by Bob. Then it was all served up to an eager crowd of fishers. We might not have won the trophy, but we did put on a great feed so thanks to everyone involved in preparing and cooking a real feast. This year we were again supporting the charity grandparents raising grandchildren. Fish caught in the competition was taken by them to be distributed amongst the many families they support. The fish was put on ice and in bins to be taken by the volunteers, who worked well into the evening to make sure it arrived fresh. Every Kiwi needs to see this.. An amazing eye opener. A very well researched and presented doco! thanks to all for making it.....it is well beyond time that the QMS was taken out the back and shot and from those ashes build an actual "world leading" example of fisheries management. The formula for a better future is already available...check out... RESCUE FISH Great doco guys. I encourage everyone to watch fully. Excellent eye opening doco. Im fully in support of an overhaul of the quota management system, as a kiwi im not sure where to go from here. Im sure 95% of kiwis are also in support... what do we need to do to help?

Counties Surfcaster This year saw the return, after many years, of the Counties Surfcaster competition. Over 50 anglers took part, competing for some terrific prizes. Prizegiving was held at the green shed, and a BBQ was provided.

NZSFC Counties Sport Fishing Club is affiliated to the New Zealand Sports Fishing Council (NZSFC), who in turn are affiliated to the International Game Fishing Association (IGFA). So all paid up members of CSFC are also members of NZSFC and IGFA, but what does this actually mean for you? IGFA are responsible for world records, so if you should be lucky enough to catch the fish of a lifetime as a club member you are eligible to have it recorded as a world record. NZSFC do the same for New Zealand records, so you can also have your catch recorded as a New Zealand record. Even if you don’t catch a record fish membership of NZSFC is still useful, as it gives you reciprocal visitation rights to any other fishing club affiliated to NZSFC and free use of their weigh station -and in the same way we offer our facilities to affiliated members from other clubs to weight their fish. We charge non members to use our weigh station, as do other clubs around the country. NZSFC also advocate for fishermen, since 2012 they have fought two attempts to impose quota on recreational fishermen. They advocate lobbying for more abundant fisheries and develop fisheries management policy. They carry out independent marine research and carry out RMA access protections. Most of this goes on behind the scenes and we don’t notice it, but it is vitally important to NZ recreational fishers. There are also some more tangible benefits to members. Genesis power offer up to 15% off monthly invoices and they also provide a $50 credit for the member and a $50 credit to the club. Gofuel fuel card provides a significant per litre saving. Marine insurance discounts, which average $70 savings.

LENGTH RECORDS we need a clear photo of the fish on the approved measure, which are available for $25. The photo must be of the whole fish lying on its side with the mouth touching the head of the measure. We will need details of where it was caught and the name of the angler.
