This is a special meeting, at which we set the subs for the next year. Please try to come along as we need a quorum of members to pass the vote for the rates. You do not need to be a Cossie Club member to attend. All CSFC members and guests welcome. Why not come early and take advantage of the great food on offer at the Cossie Club. Counties Sport Fishing Club We are a family friendly West coast club based in Waiuku, just south of Auckland. With around 1000 members, trailer boats make up the majority of our fleet. Celebrating fishing of all kinds, from the humble Gurnard to the mighty Broadbill. Club waters span from Raglan north head to Kaipara south head and include the Manukau harbour and Waikato river.

The Barbara Anne is a common sight to anyone who has launched at Te Toro. Congratulations to John Prescott who has just completed his 1000th bar crossing in the boat, that’s 500 return trips.

Congratulations to angler Cam Elliot and crew Dan Gray, Tony Prescott and Nate Hull aboard Strike Two who landed this sword on Saturday 7th May. It was so big they couldn’t get it into the boat. Undoubtably one of the heaviest fish weighed at Te Toro coming in at 255.6kg.

Boat Check Forms The boat check was a big part of the early years of Counties Sport Fishing Club, and many of our older members will no doubt have fond memories of the boat check days that used to happen. All the club members would bring their boats down and they would all get checked out, and then there may possibly have been a little socialising after. This was considered important to promote all club boats carrying the correct safety equipment for fishing over the bars on the west coast. As membership grew the boat check day where everybody brought their boats down on one day became impractical, and a system of checking each others boats came into being. More recently, now membership has gone online, there was a self declaration form that you filled in yourself online. We have now decided to remove the boat check form completely. This does not mean that we no longer advocate for carrying all the correct equipment when crossing the bar, or even when in the harbour, but we recognise that over the years our members boats have become more reliable, better powered and safer. Also everyone now carries much more technology, such as PLB’s and EPIRBS, waterproof radios and cell phones. Most members also now have their boats registered with Coastguard and a call sign assigned, which means that all the important information about their vessel is already instantly available to Coastguard should it be required. So, as of membership renewals for the 2022/2023 season in a couple of months, there will not be a requirement for you to fill out a boat check form.

Ice Breaker This year the dates for our season opening competition mean that it takes place over the first three days of the new season. A great opportunity to get some first catches of the season. This competition is usually fished by a regular bunch of hardy fishers, why not make some plans and join them this year.

Counties “Biff ya shit out” Surfcasting Competition As you probably remember, this competition was another victim of the covid restrictions last year. But this year it’s back, bigger and better. Dates are yet to be finalised, but it will be late November. Plenty of time for you to get your surfcasting gear out and get in some practice. As in previous years the area you can fish in runs from the river-mouth in the South, all round the peninsula right into Waiuku with the end point being the estuary outside the Kentish.

Call in to Franklin Hunting and Fishing on 21st May For a how-to session on gurnard fishing Tickets are available online through Sporty or www.csfc.co.nz and from Franklin Hunting and Fishing. They cost $30 per adult for CSFC members & $40 per adult for non-members. Under 16's on June 5 tickets cost $20 for CSFC members and $25 for non-members. Be careful though because we will check your membership status and if you aren't a member but say that you are you will be disqualified and not eligible for any prizes.

New Fish Limits I’m sure most of you are already aware of the newly introduced overall bag limits that are now in place, but in case you have not yet seen them here are the new limits. These were brought in as a result of the recent case of people taking ridiculous numbers of Pink Maomao, but not breaking any rules in doing so.

LENGTH RECORDS we need a clear photo of the fish on the approved measure, which are available for $25. The photo must be of the whole fish lying on its side with the mouth touching the head of the measure. We will need details of where it was caught and the name of the angler.
