Counties Sport Fishing Club We are a family friendly West coast club based in Waiuku, just south of Auckland. With around 1000 members, trailer boats make up the majority of our fleet. Celebrating fishing of all kinds, from the humble Gurnard to the mighty Broadbill. Club waters span from Raglan north head to Kaipara south head and include the Manukau harbour and Waikato river.

Bits & Bobs Junior Fishers Our president, Dougie, took his kids out over the school holidays and there were some nice snapper caught. No word of any fish from dad though.

Fire! Definitely not something that you want to happen to you while out on the water. Steve Watts came across this scene in the harbour while he was out fishing. According to the coastguard report there was a small explosion in the engine bay, which resulted in a fire on the boat. We are pleased to report that no one was seriously injured in either the fire or the explosion, although the boat did not do quite so well. Coastguard went to recover what
World Famous… ..in New Zealand The boys from Fishing and Adventure were spotted recently in the harbour. After a trip out over the bar they stopped for a few hours of fishing. Hopefully we will see this in an upcoming episode of the show.

Special General Meeting Please try to get along to our next meeting on Wednesday at the Cossie Club. This is where we set our subs for next year and we need as many members as possible to vote on this.
Cleveland / Counties Interclub Competition This years interclub competition will be held on the 25th and 26th of September. Please put these dates in your diary, after last year we need as many people as possible fishing for us to regain the trophy. Cleveland are hosting this years event, and they always put on a great event for us all. This is a great fun competition, and after last year our reputation is at stake.
Counties “Biff ya shit out” Surfcasting Competition Last year saw the return of a surfcasting competition to our annual callendar. This year it’s back, bigger and better and with a new name. This year the competition will be held on the 20th of November, so get that date in your diary. Dig out your surfcasting gear and get out for some practice.
SNA8 Review I’m sure most of you are already aware that there is an upcoming review of the quota for SNA8, which is the area that covers the West coast of North Island. FNZ has said the review will begin in June, but it is no secret that commercial interests are pushing for a big quota increase. We will bring you news as it develops and details of anything we, as a club, and you can do to have your voice heard.

Grunter Hunter The 2021 Franklin Hunting & Fishing Grunter Hunter is happening on June 6th. Ticket sales are now available online or from the Franklin Hunting & Fishing store - see Matt, Chad and the rest of the team for tickets and advice on rigs etc. Tickets are $35 per adult and $20 for under 16's (under 16 on June 6th). First prize is a whopping $3000 and there are prizes to 20th place plus an average weight prize of $500. Here are the rules: 1 Anglers must present their ticket to the Weighmaster to be eligible for prizes even if not weighing a fish 2 Only Red Gurnard are eligible. Weighed fish will be clipped, only intact fish will be weighed 3 All fish must be caught on a rod & reel 4 Fishing starts at 12.01am Sunday June 6th 5 Weigh in opens at 3.00pm Anglers must be in the weigh in queue at the Te Toro Green Shed by 4.00pm on the day of the competition – no exceptions 6 Anglers may fish the Manukau Harbour or the West Coast from Raglan North Head to Kaipara South Head 7 There will be no drawn prizes apart from Spot prizes. EG no 20th place fish – no prize drawn 8 Spot Prize winners must be present to claim prizes 9 Juniors must be UNDER 16 years old on June 6th 10 Only one gurnard may be weighed per angler. If two fish the same weight are weighed then the first of those fish weighed will be deemed to be the heaviest 11 There will be no alcohol sales at the venue 12 On-Line Ticket sales close Friday 4th June at 9.00pm. Ticket sales from H&F will cease C.O.B. Saturday 5th June. 13 There will be no ticket sales on the day 14 Safety is every skippers responsibility

Family Day The 16th of May saw our annual family day competition. This year the weather was very kind to us and a good number of families were out on the water fishing the competition. At prizegiving there was the usual barbecue, with the first outing of our newly constructed barbecue. This performed well, thanks to Stephen Harper for getting this sorted for us in time for the competition. There were plenty of good fish weighed in, by all age groups. Full results below; Snapper

Every Kiwi needs to see this.. An amazing eye opener. A very well researched and presented doco! thanks to all for making it.....it is well beyond time that the QMS was taken out the back and shot and from those ashes build an actual "world leading" example of fisheries management. The formula for a better future is already available...check out... RESCUE FISH Great doco guys. I encourage everyone to watch fully. Excellent eye opening doco. Im fully in support of an overhaul of the quota management system, as a kiwi im not sure where to go from here. Im sure 95% of kiwis are also in support... what do we need to do to help?
