We still don’t have any meetings planned due to the restrictions in place. No fishing from boats, but land based fishing is now allowed so time to dig out your surfcasters and take a trip to the beach or a local wharf. We are quite lucky having a large number of land based fishing opportunities available locally, so make the most of it. Remember to stay safe, and maintain social distancing.

Counties Sport Fishing Club We are a family friendly West coast club based in Waiuku, just south of Auckland. With around 1000 members, trailer boats make up the majority of our fleet. Celebrating fishing of all kinds, from the humble Gurnard to the mighty Broadbill. Club waters span from Raglan north head to Kaipara south head and include the Manukau harbour and Waikato river.

The onsite technicians are experts in Mercury, Etech, Evinrude & Johnson servicing and repairs as well as Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda. They can also fit new or used outboard engines and do trailer repairs, springs, winches and rollers.

Bits & Bobs Obviously not much has been going on this month fishing wise, but now that we can at least get out and do some land based fishing hopefully we will see some reports and photos coming in soon. If you have managed to get out fishing please send us some photos and let us know how you did.

Missing Water Coolers After the Counties Classic competition the two water coolers shown in the picture along with the flag base and several water bottles went missing. They were out to be collected by Water projects, but when they came to get them only the flag was there. If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of these water coolers please contact Julie Marshall at Water Projects on 021769676 or any committee member and we can pass the information on. We would very much like to get these back, so please try and remember if you saw them after the Classic competition. They were taken from the big green shed at Te Toro.
Kiwi chef Al Brown has got together with Coastguard to share some of his recipes. Here he tells us how he smokes and pan fries trevally, a popular catch for many of our members.
Smoking Trevally
Pan Fried Trevally
After you’ve put in the effort of catching it, you might as well put in the effort of cooking it properly, right? Here’s the list of ingredients for Al Brown's easy pan-fried dressing: A couple of cubes of butter Roughly chopped garlic, a shallot/onion, peppadew peppers and capers Zest and juice of a lemon Roughly chopped basil Using the same pan that you fried your fish in on a medium heat, combine butter, garlic, shallots, capers and peppadew peppers and sauté, scraping the bottom of the pan to infuse the flavours of the fish. Cook for 1-2 mins then add the fresh basil and continue to cook for a further minute. Remove from heat and generously spoon over your pan fried fish. Enjoy!

Trip Reports LOGGING A TR While you’re at home, it’s a great chance to get familiar with logging a Trip Report, or to get the kids onto it. It only takes a minute but when you’re back out there, it could save your life – or at the very least, make it easy to get in touch if you find yourself stuck up a creek without a paddle. It's easy to log a trip report from the Coastguard App, by tuning your marine VHF into your local Coastguard Radio channel, or from your mobile by dialing *500.
EASY STEPS TO LOGGING A TR When you make a trip report, these are the key bits of information our Coastguard Radio Operators need to know: Tell us the name and VHF callsign of your vessel Your point of departure Your destination, route and estimated time of arrival (ETA) and the number of people on board (POB).

LENGTH RECORDS we need a clear photo of the fish on the approved measure, which are available for $25. The photo must be of the whole fish lying on its side with the mouth touching the head of the measure. We will need details of where it was caught and the name of the angler.
