Counties Sport Fishing Club We are a family friendly West coast club based in Waiuku, just south of Auckland. With around 1000 members, trailer boats make up the majority of our fleet. Celebrating fishing of all kinds, from the humble Gurnard to the mighty Broadbill. Club waters span from Raglan north head to Kaipara south head and include the Manukau harbour and Waikato river.

New and Used Boats, Motors, Accessories, Servicing They have a reputation for good quality workmanship, honesty and reliability. The onsite technicians are experts in Mercury, Etech, Evinrude & Johnson servicing and repairs as well as Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda. They can also fit new or used outboard engines and do trailer repairs, springs, winches and rollers.

Bits & Bobs IMPORTANT NOTE : Membership Cards When you join or renew your membership you will be sent out a membership card for the season. These cards are printed for us and to keep costs down membership cards are sent out to be printed in batches. This means that it may take several weeks for your card to come through to you. If you need your membership card for a competition or to access other game fishing clubs do not leave it until the week before you need it to renew your membership as you won’t have a membership card when you need it. Why not just renew now and make sure you have your card in time for when you need it.

It was a rough evening recently for one boatie and his family. At 2318 hours Friday night (21 Feb), a man called the Coastguard Operations Centre saying he'd run aground at Tapeka Point, near Russell. His wife and young son were also aboard, and they reported only minor injuries initially. All three on board were wearing lifejackets. Volunteers aboard Bay Rescue II were paged out to assist, arriving on scene at 0024 to find the 6m boat high and dry on rocks. Two Coastguard Bay of Islands volunteers jumped onto the rock and found that, due to shock, the boaties hadn't realised just how injured they were -- the woman had broken ribs and a possible broken leg, and the man had smashed his face on the windshield on impact. The boy was remarkably uninjured. It was tricky getting back onto the rescue vessel, with Bay Rescue II needing to manoeuvre with the swell, but once all three were aboard they were given first aid, before being taken to Waitangi to be met by an ambulance and transported to hospital. The boat was abandoned aground for salvage at a later date, and we hear the family is recovering well.

Boating Survey Mariner Insurance, in collaboration with Coastguard, recently carried the “great New Zealand Boating Survey� and just under 5,000 people responded. Here are some of the highlights of the survey;
Of the trailer boats 75% were over 6 years old, and 1 in 5 were more than 20 years old. The most popular Jet Ski was Sea Doo with around 58% of the market, Yamaha being the second favourite.

2020 Fish N’ Chicks This year was the 21st anniversary of the Fish N’ Chicks competition, and 291 anglers took part. There were the usual array of amazing prizes, including a lucky key draw and a special cash prize draw for 21 $100 notes. There were some great catches, and the full results are below, with some photos of the event on the next few pages. We would like to thank all the sponsors for their support, especially our main sponsors New World Waiuku, Dave & Maureens Liquorland Waiuku, Pukekohe Toyota, Evinrude New Zealand and Franklin Hunting and Fishing. Without all our sponsors this event simply would not happen. And a big thank you to everyone who took part, and also all the guys who spent the day as skippers or deck hands.

What’s on at the Cossie As well as hosting our club meetings there is lots of other great stuff going on at Waiuku Cossie Club. The restaurant is open lunchtime and evenings, with some great specials. Like the famous Rib and Steak nights on Tuesday and Wednesday with your choice of ribs or steak for only $27, families welcome. LENGTH RECORDS we need a clear photo of the fish on the approved measure, which are available for $25. The photo must be of the whole fish lying on its side with the mouth touching the head of the measure. We will need details of where it was caught and the name of the angler.
