Counties Sport Fishing Club We are a family friendly West coast club based in Waiuku, just south of Auckland. With around 1000 members, trailer boats make up the majority of our fleet. Celebrating fishing of all kinds, from the humble Gurnard to the mighty Broadbill. Club waters span from Raglan north head to Kaipara south head and include the Manukau harbour and Waikato river.
To join the club click New and Used Boats, Motors, Accessories, Servicing They have a reputation for good quality workmanship, honesty and reliability. The onsite technicians are experts in Mercury, Etech, Evinrude & Johnson servicing and repairs as well as Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda. They can also fit new or used outboard engines and do trailer repairs, springs, winches and rollers.

Bits & Bobs Competition Time It’s that time of year again and there are lots of competitions coming up. First off is the Marlin Money Competition, which will be held on either the 6th, 7th or 8th of February. The date will be confirmed nearer the time based on the best weather forecast. Then on the 20th - 27th of February it is the Nationals, there will be a briefing meeting for any teams taking part in this competition at the Cossie Club on the 17th of February at 7pm. Then on 6th March it is the Fish N’ Chicks competition. Be quick as ticket sales will end on the 11th of February, no late entries will be accepted. Then comes the big one, the Counties Classic, which will be on the 12th, 13th and 14th of March. Watch our Facebook page for more details. Tickets for all our events can be purchased either on our web site (go to Events, Registration Forms) or directly on the Sporty app. To make it easier this year the whole team should be entered in one go by one team member, so you don’t all have to do individual entries.
We have QR posters for the big green shed, which will be prominently displayed whenever there are competitions or meetings there. Please use the Covid Tracer app to sign in when you are there.

Facebook Scam We have been alerted to a Facebook scam, where someone has set up a Facebook user with the name Counties Sport Fishing-Club, note the hyphen between fishing and club. This user has nothing whatsoever to do with Counties Sport Fishing Club. If you receive an invitation to be friends with this user we highly recommend you do NOT accept it. As a club we have a page on Facebook, but it is not a user and we will never ask you to become friends with us. This has reportedly happened to other fishing clubs and it seems likely that it is a trick that will be used with other clubs or societies that have Facebook pages, so please remain vigilant.
Weighstation Fees Just a reminder about weighstation fees. Weighing club members fish is free, as are courtesy weighs for members of NZSFC affiliated clubs. For weighing a non members fish on board a members boat there is a $20 fee and for weighing a non members fish on board a non members boat the fee is $40. Fees are payable, in cash, to the weighmaster at the time of the weighing.
While most people seem to have been out chasing marlin this month Gerrard Chitty caught, and released, some monster kingfish. One was 135cm and weighed 33kg, the other was 37kg but wasn’t measured. His wife Sharleen lost an even bigger fish at the boat, which was estimated to be over 40kg. They were fishing on Enchanter on Middlesex Bank on the 9th of January. Sound like quite a day.

Briefing Meeting For all teams taking part will be held at the Cossie Club on the 17th February at 7pm First Mortgage Trust will provide 8 x $250 vouchers as a daily lucky angler prize and 3 club prizes. These will be in the form of a donation of 1st $1,000, 2nd $750 and 3rd $500 to the winning club as a donation for the purposes of betterment of the club. 11

Every Kiwi needs to see this.. An amazing eye opener. A very well researched and presented doco! thanks to all for making it.....it is well beyond time that the QMS was taken out the back and shot and from those ashes build an actual "world leading" example of fisheries management. The formula for a better future is already available...check out... RESCUE FISH Great doco guys. I encourage everyone to watch fully. Excellent eye opening doco. Im fully in support of an overhaul of the quota management system, as a kiwi im not sure where to go from here. Im sure 95% of kiwis are also in support... what do we need to do to help?

Invasive Plants
Heading to the beach this summer? Keep your eyes peeled for this invasive weed which disrupts sand dunes affects native plants. It’s called sea spurge, it spreads quickly and we want you to help us to stamp it out. Keep an eye out for its spiky, blue-green leaves, green flowers and multiple stems. If you do spot it, DO NOT try to remove it. Snap a photo, take note of its location and get in contact with our team at 0800 80 99 66.

LENGTH RECORDS we need a clear photo of the fish on the approved measure, which are available for $25. The photo must be of the whole fish lying on its side with the mouth touching the head of the measure. We will need details of where it was caught and the name of the angler.
