Counties Sport Fishing Club We are a family friendly West coast club based in Waiuku, just south of Auckland. With around 1000 members, trailer boats make up the majority of our fleet. Celebrating fishing of all kinds, from the humble Gurnard to the mighty Broadbill. Club waters span from Raglan north head to Kaipara south head and include the Manukau harbour and Waikato river.

Bits & Bobs Tow Bar Safety Warning Heads up folks. This has been reported on some online forums. Heard just recently that some of our country's finest are cruising boat ramps and removing the pins out of detachable towbars/balls. Not too hard to imagine the outcome so it might pay just to quickly check before pulling your boat out.... Well worth the 5 secs me thinks! Sadly this is not just a rumour, with several people reporting that it has happened to them, not just at boat ramps but car parks and other places where the vehicle was left unattended. Keep your eyes open and check your tow bar before setting out.
We have QR posters for the big green shed, which will be prominently displayed whenever there are competitions or meetings there. Please use the Covid Tracer app to sign in when you are there.

Seaspiracy If you have access to Netflix then this documentary is well worth a watch. Although not directly linked to commercial fishing in New Zealand, like the price of fish was, it does give an interesting insight into some of the more dubious practices that are occurring on the high seas around the world. While I’m sure not many of you will agree with the film makers conclusion that the only solution is to stop eating fish it is certainly an eye opener.
Grunter Hunter This is coming soon, on the 6th of June to be exact, so remember to put the date in your diary. More info will be in next months newsletter, and on our facebook page nearer the competition. The winning gurnard in the fish n’ chicks competition was 1.75 kg, so there are some great fish already around out there. This years Fish N Chicks almost became a victim of the Covid lock-down, but thanks to some swift work by the committee re-arranging everything it went ahead on the 27th of March. Although far from perfect weather lots of fishers got out on the water and there were some good fish weighed in. Full results are below, where there were not three fish placed the other prizes were awarded by lucky draw. Due to the change of dates you did not need to be there in person to claim any drawn prizes.

Trout Section
From next fishing season the trout trophy will be a length section. That will make it easier for those fishing and staying away or where there may not be easy access to calibrated weighing scales. The fish will be need measured on a fish measure, they are available form the club and Burnsco etc. Catch a trout and take a picture and send it to the club.

Every Kiwi needs to see this.. An amazing eye opener. A very well researched and presented doco! thanks to all for making it.....it is well beyond time that the QMS was taken out the back and shot and from those ashes build an actual "world leading" example of fisheries management. The formula for a better future is already available...check out... RESCUE FISH Great doco guys. I encourage everyone to watch fully. Excellent eye opening doco. Im fully in support of an overhaul of the quota management system, as a kiwi im not sure where to go from here. Im sure 95% of kiwis are also in support... what do we need to do to help?

LENGTH RECORDS we need a clear photo of the fish on the approved measure, which are available for $25. The photo must be of the whole fish lying on its side with the mouth touching the head of the measure. We will need details of where it was caught and the name of the angler.
