Welcome to our new treasurer Nick King and committee member Clinton Hunt, we had a great turnout to the AGM, which was good to see. Likewise for Prizegiving, it’s a lot of work for our tireless weighmaster Steve Watts and his helpers on the day so it was rewarding to see so many there. One of the best turnouts that I have seen. Unfortunately I won’t be around for the Interclub Challenge with the Clevedon Sport Fishing Club it has always been loads of fun and hopefully we’ll be able to turn on the same hospitality to them as they do for us, they always set the standard high. Bits ‘n Bobs Subscriptions Due It’s that time of year again, time to renew your subscription. It’s easy to do, just go online to clubhub and it can all be done from the comfort of your chair, or anywhere else. Bob Hilton gives a great demonstration of why you should always check that you have put the bungs in before setting out in any boat.

Casey Hilton shows us that you don’t need to go abroad for some good fishing. You don’t even need a rod and reel.
Membership 2017/18 The numbers are in, and our membership last year was 758. This breaks down as 410 Adult members, 154 spouses, 28 senior citizens, 22 junior, 118 children, 11 life members and 15 honorary members. Thanks to all members, without you there wouldn’t be a Counties Sport Fishing Club. Also great to see that we have 140 junior/child members as these youngsters represent the future of the club.
Electric Reels At the committee meeting this month it was decided that we should put this up for discussion at the next club meeting, which is on 26th September. The committee recently voted in favour of banning the use of electric reels for all competitions and for club records. This complies with IGFA and NZSFC rules. If you have any strong feelings on this subject, for or against, then please make sure you are at the club meeting on 26th September to make your voice heard.

Prizegiving 2018 Saturday the 8th of September saw a great turn out of members for the annual prizegiving. Congratulations to everyone who took home a trophy, and for everyone else there’s always next year.

When something goes wrong on a harbour or river bar, the consequences can be severe. Too often we see boaties getting into strife on harbour and river bars because they don't understand all the risks and the steps needed to mange them. While the evening won't fully equip boaties lacking the experience to tackle a bar crossing, our Raising the Bar seminar has been developed to help educate boaties interested in knowing more about crossing bars. These interactive sessions will be somewhere between 1 - 1.5 hours and be presented by a number of friendly and approachable specialists who will cover things such as: Why they are dangerous What should you consider before planning a trip What sort of equipment should you have on the boat What steps should you take to keep your vessel and crew safe Communication protocols including lodging the vital Bar Crossing report with Coastguard • Local area knowledge such as channels and leads While entry is free, a donation towards costs would be greatly appreciated. • • • • •

Committee At the AGM held last month there were few changes to the committee. We welcome aboard Nick King as treasurer, replacing Kelly Muir, and new committee member Clinton Hunt. Smudge also said that this will be his last year as president (unless Douggie can get his hands on enough Lion Brown to bribe him before then). At this months committee meeting Sub-committees were confirmed to organise our main fishing competitions. Also the subject of electric reels was re-visited. At a recent meeting it was voted that fish caught on electric reels would not be eligible for club records and electric reels would not be allowed in competitions. This is in line with IGFA rules. It was decided that this would be discussed with the membership at the next meeting, on 26th September. If you have any strong feelings either way on this issue make sure you attend to make them known.
