Presidents Report The two biggest competitions of our fishing year are now behind us and I think it is fair to say that both The Fish’n Chicks & The Counties Classic were great events once again. A big thanks to the committees and all the other helpers who helped put these together, there are far too many of you to list. The prizes were fantastic thanks to our wonderful sponsors and there was a great turnout. Our next competitions are the Family Day, Grunter Hunter and Ice Breaker. It’s interesting to see how well the launching and docking process works for these competitions and while there were one or two minor mishaps things generally went very well. With a big turnout expected for the Grunter Hunter and many of those entries not being from club members I’m expecting to need a couple of marshals as ‘catchers’ and to direct boats, trailers etc. If you aren’t fishing and are keen to help out please let me know. We have now moved venues for our club meetings to the Waiuku Cosmopolitan club as a revamp of the restaurant at The Kentish Hotel doesn’t give us quite the room we need and our first General Meeting there will be on Wednesday March 28th. The coast and the harbour are both fishing very well but as always it’s the weather that determines when we can get out. Hopefully autumn will be a little more settled from here on in but we can’t really grizzle after both the Fish’n Chicks and Counties Classic both gave us opportunities to get outside. The weather will be what it will be and it’s really important to make the most of the opportunities we get or we would never get out fishing. Autumn and early winter are generally great times for fishing so I’m planning on making the most of it. Well that’s us halfway through the fishing year already, let’s hope the second half is as good as the first! Counties Classic Last weekend saw the biggest event of the Counties calendar, the Classic. Over the next few pages we’ll bring you some photos of the event and the full results of all weighed fish. In the Calcutta first place team was Assalt –for the second year running, second place was Lethal Weapon and third place, also for the second year running, Westcoasters. Congratulations to all the winners, and we hope everyone who took part had a great time.

Duckboat Derby Congratulations to Pat, Darin, Mike and Dougie, the CSFC Duckboat team for coming first in the open section. Their main competition, the Waiuku fire brigade, had to pull out 15 minutes before the race due to a call out. But the boys say they will have no problem seeing them off next year.

IGFA Fishing Contest The IGFA are running a worldwide fishing contest, from October 1st 2017 through to September 1st 2018. Obviously not all the 74 species are available here in NZ, but some are. For full details see their web site;

Bits ‘n Bobs Small Fry Section We mentioned last month that we will be splitting the junior results into two sections for prizegiving this year, with under 12’s being classed as small fry and 12-16 being classed as juniors. Steve Watts reports that sponsors for this section have come forward and so we should have cups to present at prizegiving.

Committee The committee meeting was held early this month, so as not to interfere with preparations for the Counties Classic. This was the first meeting at our new venue at the cossie club, and our results board has now been removed from the Kentish and installed in the downstairs bar. As you can imagine much of the meeting was discussing the upcoming Classic, and everything is in place for another great competition, which will have hopefully been successfully completed by the time you read this. During the recent Fish N Chicks competition one of the boats taking part rescued two poorly prepared divers who got into trouble. It’s fair to say that had they not been where they were to rescue them we would probably been reading about another tragedy in the harbour. On the day they were awarded a $50 meal voucher, and Smudge moved that we should increase this to a $300 voucher as there were 6 people on the boat involved in the rescue. In the rush to rescue the divers they had to cut their anchor, which was lost. The date was finalised for the family day fishing comp, which will be on the 22nd April –so put that in your calendar.
