Presidents Report Hello again. There’s now only one competition left for the club year and that is the Franklin Hunting & Fishing Grunter Hunter. With Franklin Hunting & Fishing and Shimano on board we can offer a larger first prize with more lucky draws and can extend the heaviest category from 10th to 15th place. We also have a prize for the average weight fish. While this competition is open to everyone it would be nice to hand over the first place prize money to a club member! The event is on June 10 at Te Toro of course. Ticket sales close at 5.00pm Friday 8 th of June but tickets can be bought online at www.csfc.co.nz or from the Franklin Hunting & Fishing store in the Pukekohe Mega Centre. To start the new year off we have the annual Ice Breaker event which is on 6, 7 th & 8th July. You can fish anywhere you like, as long as you’re back in time for weigh in at Te Toro on the Sunday. We see some amazing fish weighed in for this event every year and it’s a lot of fun. Details will be made available shortly and will be posted on line as soon as everything is sorted. Check out the video on our facebook page from last years event and you’ll see some impressive looking that were caught right in the middle of winter. The club’s facebook page has proven itself to be a very successful method of getting information out to people, if you’re not signed up to it then consider doing so. Gerald Muir posts some great video for our events and they are always well worth watching. Thanks Gerald! Of course with the fishing year drawing to a close it is also time to think about electing new committee members or re electing the existing ones. We have a very good committee and it does take a while to get into the groove of things but we always welcome new blood so if you think you have something to offer then please put your name forward. Some people may wish to stand down but we have enjoyed a very stable base of people who a very good at what they do and it’s important we keep up numbers to ensure the work load is shared. Having said that our numbers are pretty much right but there’s always room for more. If you can, please attend our club nights, the next one is May 30th at the Waiuku Cossie club at 7.30pm. Nationals Survey NATIONALS RULES REVIEW & NATIONALS SURVEY As part of the New Zealand Sportfishing Council’s (NZSFC) drive for
continuous improvement, a questionnaire has been compiled to seek feedback from clubs and club members regarding the NZSFC Nationals. HOW TO PARTICIPATE The questionnaire is best answered using the online questionnaire page – click here to respond. Tony McGlade caught this great fish up in the Bay of Islands, here’s his story; We had a two day trip out of Opua in Bay of Islands 9th may, on StrikeIII with skipper Paddy , crew Tony mcglade, Gavin Shine, Mark Mitchell (clevedon) We Headed 30 miles out to 600 mtr mark, on a flat calm day. Mark was on for the first broady weighing in at 103.4kg, and about an hour later l was on one for 35min, weighing in at 118.6kg . The plan was to release it, but unfortunately the broady was not able to be revived. And that all happened before lunch. A perfect two days Tastes bloody great too

Fishing the Sounds Would you like to fish Marlborough Sounds / Durville Island area in mid June? Daniel Millar is looking for individuals or groups who would be interested in spending 5 or 6 days fishing off the 68’ vessel Canard targeting blue cod, snapper, kingfish, puka, etc. All gear supplied as you will be testing some new to the market products. IGFA Fishing Contest The IGFA are running a worldwide fishing contest, from October 1st 2017 through to September 1st 2018. Obviously not all the 74 species are available here in NZ, but some are. For full details see their web site;

When something goes wrong on a harbour or river bar, the consequences can be severe. Too often we see boaties getting into strife on harbour and river bars because they don't understand all the risks and the steps needed to mange them. While the evening won't fully equip boaties lacking the experience to tackle a bar crossing, our Raising the Bar seminar has been developed to help educate boaties interested in knowing more about crossing bars. These interactive sessions will be somewhere between 1 - 1.5 hours and be presented by a number of friendly and approachable specialists who will cover things such as: Why they are dangerous What should you consider before planning a trip What sort of equipment should you have on the boat What steps should you take to keep your vessel and crew safe Communication protocols including lodging the vital Bar Crossing report with Coastguard • Local area knowledge such as channels and leads While entry is free, a donation towards costs would be greatly appreciated. • • • • •

Committee At the committee meeting this month one of the main objectives was to set dates for the coming years competitions. With much consultation of tide information and calendars these were all finalised, and can be seen on the diary page (page 12). Smudge announced that Franklin Hunting and Fishing had come onboard as the main sponsor for this years grunter Hunter, so it is now the Franklin Hunting and Fishing Grunter hunter. This has allowed us to increase the first prize to $3,000 and also means that there will be prizes right down to 15th place for weighted fish as well as an average weight prize and spot prizes. Tickets will be available for sale from Franklin Hunting and Fishing as well as online through clubhub. The pontoons at Te Toro have had maintenance work undertaken on them, so hopefully by the time you read this they will be sitting better on the ramp at low tides.

LENGTH RECORDS we need a clear photo of the fish on the approved measure, which are available for $25. The photo must be of the whole fish lying on its side with the mouth touching the head of the measure. We will need details of where it was caught and the name of the angler.
