Ed’s Note... Welcome to the November 2015 magazine, well October was a bit up and down weather wise it seemed to be really hot one minute and then raining the next… Things are quieting down now, the summer is over and the clocks have gone back. The UK seems to be very much in vogue at the moment but here are some fascinating, obscure and entertaining facts that give an insight into a very British way of life.... 1) Elizabeth I (1533-1603) was the first British monarch to have a fullyfitted flushing toilet. 2) Britain’s largest freshwater fish of modern times was a carp, nicknamed Two Tone, who weighed almost 68lbs and was believed to have been about 45 years old when he died of old age and was found floating on Conningbroke Lake near Canterbury in 2010. 3) The first person to be convicted of speeding is believed to be Walter Arnold, of East Peckham, Kent, who on January 28, 1896, was fined 1s plus costs for driving at 8mph.

No stranger to mamouth budgets thanks to Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson’s lavish take on the ’30s classic initially had a budget of $150 million. Most of the money was spent on Kong himself. The special effects were fantastic. Unfortunately, when the humans started talking things started to go a little bit off track…Jack Black, really? At the box office it grossed: $550 USD.
9. Avatar (2009) - Cost of production: $261 million USD:
James Cameron took an almighty leap into the third-dimension with his digitally-created new world, hiring WETA for special effects and using super-sleek 3D which took the medium of cinema to the next level. No surprise then, that this movie didn’t come cheap. At the box office it grossed: $2,787,965,087 Avatar is the highest grossing film EVER…!
8. Waterworld (1995) - Cost of production: $271 million USD: Kevin Costner lived on a trimaran in the middle of the ocean that was once Earth before all the ice caps melted and dry land became a distant memory… A bit like the film really in fact, it’s probably the most famous flop in recent film history. At the box office it grossed: $264 million USD.
7. John Carter (2012) - Cost of production: $271 million USD: The cost of John Carter was with no better way to say it ridiculous. It left Disney somewhere around $200 million out of pocket, making it the company’s biggest flop of all time. We don’t know about you but we’ve never even heard of it….! At the box office it grossed: $284 million USD after all that not a great movie for the Disney studios.

Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince (2009) Cost of production: $275 million USD: While it’s not really surprising that Warner Bros. was willing to put up as many millions as were needed to bring the Harry Potter series to the big screen, the fact that The Half-Blood Prince was the most expensive of the series is. It was the least favoured film by fans and critics alike (money doesn’t always make a film better). At the box office it grossed: $934,416,487. Regardless of the huge production costs (Depp’s payment was an estimated $55,000,000…) the box office-busting Pirates of the Caribbean flicks have been the most extraordinary cash cow. We wonder how much they are going to splash out on the 6th film in the series – Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales due out in 2017… At the box office it grossed: $1,045,713,802
This is Molly... Meet Molly she is a small dog weighing 6-7kg she was born on the 18th of March 2013. We rescued her form a dog pound. She is brown with white patches and of mixed breed. Molly is very shy at the moment but would love a new home wtih lots of affection and cuddles.

While attending a Marriage Seminar dealing with communication, Tom and his wife Grace listened to the instructor, “It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other.” He addressed the man, “Can you describe your wife's favourite flower?” Tom leaned over, touched his wife's arm gently and whispered, “It's self raising, isn't it?” The rest of the story gets rather ugly, so I’ll stop right here.

A policeman was interrogating 3 blondes who were training to become detectives. To test their skills in recognising a suspect, he shows the first blonde a picture for 5 seconds and then hides it. "This is your suspect, how would you recognise him?" The first blonde answers, "That's easy, we'll catch him fast because he only has one eye!" The policeman says, "Well...uh...that's because the picture shows his profile."(Side pose...) Slightly flustered by this ridiculous response, he flashes the picture for 5 seconds at the second blonde and asks her, "This is your suspect, how would you recognise him?" What is Lyme disease?
What is Lyme disease?
Lyme disease seems to be in the news a lot at the moment, with celebrities such as Yolanda Foster, Bella Hadid and Avril Lavinge suffering from it.
Lyme disease is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi, and it is sometimes known as Lyme Borreliosis. Animals and birds carry the bacteria in their bloodstream and ticks may pick this up whilst feeding on an infected animal and pass it on to other animals and also humans during the next meal. Ticks can transmit other diseases as well, but Lyme disease is by far the most common one they carry in Europe.
Where is it found?
Awareness among doctors is low and many cases therefore go undiagnosed. It is more common in mainland Europe, particularly Eastern Europe, and in some parts of North America. Avril Lavigne has spoken about her struggle with Lyme disease after being struck by the illness, and her long wait for a diagnosis
How is it transmitted?
Ticks resemble small spiders and thrive where there is enough humidity from vegetation to prevent them from drying out. Typically this occurs in deciduous woodland, rough pasture and moorland, but similar conditions may occur in urban parks and gardens. You may be familiar with the ticks on pets these are the larger adult form; the stage that attaches to humans is the nymph - generally about the size of a pinhead before it swells with (your) blood. Typical places are behind the knee and in the groin; most adults are bitten below the waist, but small children above the waist. The risk of Lyme disease transmission increases with the length of time the tick remains attached so it is important to check for ticks and remove them correctly with a tick removal tool. Do not use petroleum jelly, burning or attempt to remove with fingernails as this may stress the tick and increase the risk of infection. Check your whole body, including the scalp of small children.
What are the symptoms?
An important early sign of Lyme disease is a red skin rash called erythema migrans which typically occurs 3-30 days after the bite of an infected tick. The rash expands slowly and is usually not itchy or painful. One in three people do not notice this rash but if you see it, take a photograph for evidence. Flu-like symptoms, extreme tiredness and headache occur and if left untreated the disease may spread throughout the body to the nervous system, joints, skin, heart and eyes, causing a range of symptoms eg. Facial palsy and nerve root pain. If the rash or tick bite are not seen, then diagnosis is often via a blood test. This can be negative in the early stages and inadequate treatment early on can lead to negative test results, complicating diagnosis, dealing appropriate treatment and leading to debilitating symptoms.
How is it treated?
Treatment of Lyme disease is with antibiotics and the sooner this is started, the greater the chance of a good recovery. Prevention includes avoiding tick bites where possible and prompt tick removal. Awareness is key do not stop enjoying outdoor activities!

Don’t leave dirty tissues or hankies lying around - it can also spread your cold. When you cough, sneeze or blow your nose the secretions that end up in your hanky or tissue are teeming with the virus that’s making you sick. These viruses can survive for some time once they leave your body, so when you leave a tissue for someone else to pick up you’re actually leaving a little virus bomb to go infect someone else’s hands. So throw away any used tissues and wash your hands straight away.
EAT FRUIT
Fruits especially the berries (blueberries, blackberries, cherries, strawberries) are naturally high in vitamin C, bioflavonoids and antioxidants. These all help with your immunity levels. Other sources are apricots, peppers, kiwi fruit and broccoli.

This chocolate and marshmallow feast is an Australian favourite - and it's easy to see why. It even makes its own sauce!
IngrEDIEnTs
•140g butter, melted, plus extra for the dish •375g self-raising flour •175g caster sugar •2 tsp baking powder •6 tbsp cocoa powder •350ml milk •3 eggs, beaten
METHOD
•Put Butter a large baking dish (about 2-3 litres in size). Sift the flour, ½ tsp salt, caster sugar, baking powder and 6 tbsp cocoa powder into a bowl. In a separate bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, eggs and vanilla. Mix the dry and wet ingredients together, then pour into the baking dish. This can be covered with cling film and chilled for up to 24 hrs.
•1 tsp vanilla extract •Single cream or vanilla ice cream, to serve For the topping •450g light muscovado sugar •7 tbsp cocoa powder •2 large handfuls marshmallows and uncover, if necessary. Sprinkle the muscovado sugar and cocoa evenly over the pudding, then pour 700ml boiling water over the top.
•Bake for 35-45 mins until the pudding is puffy and firm in the centre. Scatter over the marshmallows and return to the oven for 30second intervals until they are just melting. Serve straight away – it will be hot – with •Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 and boil cream or ice cream the kettle. Take the pudding out of the fridge

The American Effect....
GBP/EUR has now broken through 1.335 and beyond when an extensive list of US economic data was released last month. USD/EUR is the most heavily traded currency pair in the world, when you get strength or weakness in one, the loose rule of thumb is that the other will have the opposite effect.
We have seen this time and again over the past few weeks. Poor jobs data at the start of the month, where 70,000 less jobs than forecasted were added to the American economy, caused the Euro to gain almost 2 cents against Sterling in the space of a few hours – as capital was moved into the Euro following reduced confidence in the European economy.
