Well last month was a funny old month with the weather, we were in jumpers and people in the UK were in shorts and t-shirts, fingers crossed that it picks up for May and the proper beach weather starts. This brings with it issues though months of walking around sucking your tummy in and/or puffing your chest, which I personally think is a work out in itself (who needs the gym)! Dates for your diary this month are a cheeky bank holiday on Friday the 1st giving us a nice long weekend and to make it even better Spanish Mothers day is on the 3rd of the month…. So before the beaches, bars and restaurants are bursting at the seams and the car parking spaces become rarer than rocking horse poo, make the most of the warmer, but not boiling weather and settle yourself down outside for a good read of this months Costa Link Magazine. Reality star Elliott shared a photo with fans via Instagram last month showing him sitting on top of a fence outside of his new restaurant The Mijas Playa in La Cala. MURDER at mercadona...
Tired of constantly being broke and stuck in an unhappy marriage, a young husband decided to solve both problems by taking out a large insurance policy on his wife with himself as the beneficiary and then arranging to have her killed. A 'friend of a friend' put him in touch with a nefarious dark-side underworld figure who went by the name of 'Artie.' Artie explained to the husband that his going price for snuffing out a spouse was â‚Ź10,000. The husband said he was willing to pay that amount but that he wouldn't have any cash on hand until he could collect his wife's insurance money. Artie insisted on being paid at least something up front, so the man emptied his pocket, displaying the single pound coin that rested inside. Artie sighed, rolled his eyes and reluctantly agreed to accept the pound as down payment for the dirty deed. A few days later, Artie followed the man's wife to the local Mercadona supermarket. There, he surprised her in the produce department and proceeded to strangle her with his gloved hands. As the poor unsuspecting woman drew her last breath and slumped to the floor, the manager of the produce department stumbled unexpectedly onto the murder scene. Unwilling to leave any living witnesses behind, Artie had no choice but to strangle the produce manager as well. However, unknown to Artie, the entire proceedings were captured by the hidden security cameras and observed by the shop's security guard, who immediately called the police. Artie was caught and arrested before he could even leave the premises. Under intense questioning at the police station, Artie revealed the whole sordid plan, including his unusual financial arrangements with the hapless husband who was also quickly arrested. The next day in the newspaper, the headline declared... 'ARTIE CHOKES 2 for â‚Ź1.00 @ Mercadona - Oh, stop groaning! I don't write this stuff.

BEWARE of this scam...
Over the last month I became a victim of an scam while out shopping. Simply dropping into Carrefour for a bit of shopping turned out to be quite traumatic.
This is how they work: Two good-looking 21 year-old girls come over to your car as you are packing your shopping into the boot. They both start cleaning your windscreen, their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' and instead ask you for a lift to another supermarket, in my case, Carrefour in Estepona. You agree and they both get in the backseat. On the way, they start undressing, and both get naked. When you pull over to remonstrate, one of them climbs over into the front seat and starts crawling all over your lap, kissing you, touching you intimately and thrusting herself against you, while the other one steals your wallet. I had my wallet stolen on April 1st, 4th, 6th, 10th, 25th, twice yesterday and very likely again this coming weekend.
P.S. Aldi have wallets on sale for â‚Ź1.99 each but Lidl's are â‚Ź1.75 and look better.

Most people these days have a safe in their house (usually hidden!), Asprey of London have changed tack by making a gorilla safe that you freely display… We take a look at other safes from around the world that can’t be hidden and what’s in them! Fort Knox: It’s a cliché for a reason. Built with four-foot thick walls, held together by 750 tons of reinforced steel. All you have to do get past four fences, two of which are electrified and fight your way past a team of armed guards. Next up you’ll need work your way through a maze of locked doors until you get to the daddy: a vault door, weighing a whopping 22 tons. Here, you’ll need the combination to the vault and for that you’ll need to find every member of Fort Knox staff, since each knows only a small section of the combination. Nobody knows the whole thing. Once inside, you’ll need to break into each of the smaller vaults hidden inside; then find some way of transporting your booty back out again. Problem is, by this point, 30,000 soldiers from the Fort Knox military camp will be waiting for you outside. What’s Inside? Fort Knox diligently guards 5,000 tons of gold bullion; which is enough to justify its labyrinthine network of security features. Svalbard Global Seed Vault: Is buried 390 feet into the rock on the island of Spitsbergen, which sits a mere 620 miles from the North Pole and doesn’t get a lot of visitors. In addition to its standard security features, it’s protected by hundreds of miles of ocean and more than a few polar bears. Importantly, this secure facility isn’t only trying to protect the contents from intruders; it’s designed to withstand Armageddon.

Cheyenne Mountain: The 25-ton doors at Cheyenne Mountain can withstand a 30-megaton blast. If, like me, you’re not up on what that means, it means a nuclear bomb could explode on the site almost 1,500 times before it made a dent. What’s Inside? People. It’s the world’s most secure office building, buried so far into the rock that air has to be pumped in from outside just so the employees can breathe. The vault was home to the US Missile Warning Center and NORAD during the cold war now on “warm standby”. Iron Mountain: Sits 200 feet below the ground in an old limestone mine, housing 1.7 million square feet of ultra secure vaults. If you want to get inside, you’ll have to sweet-talk two waves of armed guards before you make it through the front door. What’s Inside? This buried vault contains an eclectic mix of things including: Wreckage of Flight 93, the original photo of Einstein blowing a raspberry and the original patent for the light bulb signed by one Thomas Edison. The identity of 95% of vault owners is confidential but we do know that the US government makes use of the facility, as do the Smithsonian Institution and the Warner Brothers. Did you Know that 150,000 people a year in the UK are affected by strokes… 20% of these will be below the age of 40; the majority will be over 65… The speed in which we react to the symptoms will have a huge in-pact on the quality & time of the recovery.
Stroke symptoms typically start suddenly, over seconds to minutes, and in most cases do not progress further. The symptoms depend on the area of the brain affected. The more extensive the area of brain affected, the more functions that are likely to be lost. Some forms of stroke can cause additional symptoms. For example, in intracranial hemorrhage, the affected area may compress other structures. Most forms of stroke are not associated with headaches,

but this can be a symptom in certain types. Recognizing the Symptoms: The best rule of thumb is FAST (face, arm, speech, and time) no doubt most of us have seen this in the recent UK TV ad campaign. Is there a drooping of the face, a loss of control of the arm (s), is the speech slurred or disoriented. Time is key, the earlier an assessment is carried the sooner treatment can start and this can affect the long term recovery for the sufferer.
In most cases, the symptoms affect only one side of the body. Depending on the part of the brain affected, the defect in the brain is usually on the opposite side of the body. However, since these pathways also travel in the spinal cord and any lesion there can also produce these symptoms, the presence of any one of these symptoms does not always indicate a stroke.
Symptoms can include: • Altered smell, taste, hearing, or vision (total or partial) • Drooping of eyelid and weakness of eye muscles • Decreased reflexes: gag, swallow, pupil reactivity to light • Decreased sensation and muscle weakness of the face • Balance problems • Altered breathing and heart rate • Weakness in neck muscle with inability to turn head to one side • Weakness in tongue (inability to protrude and/or move from side to side) • Memory deficit • Visual disturbances • Trouble walking / altered movement coordination • Difficulty with verbal expression, auditory comprehension, reading and/or writing Associated symptoms: Loss of consciousness, headache, and vomiting usually occurs more often in hemorrhagic stroke than in thrombosis because of the increased intracranial pressure from the leaking blood compressing the brain. We can reduce the risk of having a stroke by making small changes to our lifestyles. Prevention is always better than cure…

CAN THEY DETECT CANCER, PREDICT SEIZURES, AND WARN ABOUT LOW BLOOD SUGAR?
Anyone with a dog or cat will tell you: Pets are amazing. They’re loyal, comfort us in tough times, and even lower our blood pressure. But some animals seem to perform what often seem like miracles, attracting attention for rescuing their owners from dangerous situations, predicting health problems, or making their way home from miles away. Are these dogs exceptional or are these abilities common among animals?
DOGS SNIFFING OUT CANCER: Research has shown that malignant tissues release chemicals that are different from normal tissue in multiple studies; dogs have been intriguingly accurate at detecting certain cancers by smelling breath or urine samples. How is the dog’s nose structured to enable it to be so efficient? The structure of the Dog’s nose is important. The nose is formed by bones, muscles and soft tissue and includes a blood supply of arteries and veins plus nerves, which are connected to specialised areas in the brain. Dogs can smell in parts per trillion. An example of this is: one cc (less than a drop) of blood, diluted into 20 olympic sized swimming pools. The dog can smell with ease that there’s blood in the pool. Published studies have shown that dogs can detect early stage cancer with 88% specificity, and 99% sensitivity. Dogs could help provide an extremely accurate, low-cost, non-invasive, early detection screening for cancer. DOGS THAT SNIFF LOW BLOOD SUGAR: Can dogs predict drops in blood sugar? In 2008, Deborah Wells, PhD, a psychologist at Queens University in Belfast, Northern Island, reported on type 1 diabetes patients who said their animals often alerted them to low blood sugar before they noticed their own symptoms. Wells is now studying whether there is scientific evidence to support the phenomenon.
DOGS THAT PREDICT SEIZURES: Doctors can’t explain it, but some patients with epilepsy report that their dogs are able to tell them when a seizure is coming. Jennifer Arnold, founder of Canine Assistants in Georgia, tells service-dog recipients there’s no way to train the animals to predict seizures - only to respond once they occur. But she says about nine out of 10 of the service dogs her organization has placed develop the ability on their own within a year of placement. “It really doesn’t seem to be terribly difficult,” Arnold says. “Dogs alert in different ways ... Most of them become visibly distressed in some way. They will start licking their person or pawing at them. It’s extremely common for the dog to tug their person toward the ground, as if they want them to lie down.” 52

"After a while I got bored being a doctor so I decided to go back to school. Dentistry was my dream. Got all the way through school, got my degree so I was now Fred Dingaling, MD, DDS. "Got bored doing dentistry so I started fooling around with my assistant. She gave me VD. So, I was Fred Dingaling, MD, DDS with VD. Well, the ADA found out about the VD so they took away my DDS so I was Fred Dingaling MD with VD. Then the AMA found out about the ADA taking away my DDS because of the VD, so they took away my MD leaving me as Fred Dingaling with VD. Then the VD took away my dingaling . . . so now I'm just Fred." The officer walked away in tears, laughing.

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true? A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.
Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables? A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable slop.
Q: Is beer or wine bad for me? A: Look, it goes to the earlier point about fruits and vegetables. As we all know, scientists divide everything in the world into three categories: animal, mineral, and vegetable. We all know that beer and wine are not animal, and they are not on the periodic table of elements, so that only leaves one thing, right? My advice: Have a burger and a beer and enjoy your liquid vegetables. Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio? A: Well, if you have a body, and you have body fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.
Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program? A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain-No Pain.
Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle? A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach. I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about trying to live a longer and healthier life...

Costa Link Magazine talks to Spanish property expert Peter Bowerman about the renewed interest in the Costa Del Sol property market. If you’ve been thinking about buying a luxury home, upgrading your property or investing in a buy-to-let deal on the Costa del Sol, then there has never been a better time to do so. The signs of recovery are aligning and investors and construction companies are once again back in the market. Southern Spain’s luxurious coastline often dubbed the ‘California of Europe’ is returning to its former glory as Europe’s top destination for second homes. With some luxury homes in Marbella and Malaga regions at around 50% of their original value, it is no surprise the buyers are flooding back. Are car manufacturers running out of names? – There seem to be a lot of re-cycled model names around these days… A name of one of the most popular cars of the past is about to be re-born. The 2015 Ford Escort a new four door saloon won’t be coming to Europe but is aimed at the Chinese market.
Here is Spain we will call it the New Opel Karl, but in The UK it’s a revival of the Vauxhall Viva name used between 1963 and 1979. The Alfa Romeo Giulietta name is now on its second revival. The first outing was in 1954, and then revived in 1977 and again in 2010.
Rolls Royce and Aston Martin are good at this game, every model in their current line ups, Phantom, Ghost, Wraith, Vantage, DB Vanquish and Rapide are all names that have been used in their companies pasts.
But the next Aston will be something special... The new Lagonda for 2015 revives that name last used in 1987.
Skoda named the eighth ever model the Octavia. It was produced from 1959 to 1971. The name was revised for the current model in 1996.

With around half the fat of regular brownies, these are a slightly less guilty pleasure, but still have that intense chocolate hit....
Beetroot Brownies Ingredients:
•500g whole raw beetroot •100g unsalted butter, plus extra for the tin •200g bar plain chocolate (70% cocoa) •1 tsp vanilla extract
•250g golden caster sugar •3 eggs •100g plain flour •25g cocoa powder
1) Wear a pair of rubber gloves to stop your hands from staining, then top, tail and peel the beetroot – you’ll need about 400g flesh. Roughly chop and put into a large bowl. Add a splash of water, cover with cling film, then microwave on High for 12 mins or until tender. 2) Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. While the beetroot cooks, butter then line a 20 x 30cm traybake or small roasting tin. Roughly chop the chocolate and cut the butter into cubes. Tip the cooked beetroot into a sieve, drain off any excess liquid, then put into a food processor or blender with the chocolate, butter and vanilla. Whizz until the mix is as smooth as you can get it. The chocolate and butter will melt as you do this.
3) Put the sugar and eggs into a large bowl, then beat using an electric hand whisk until thick, pale and foamy, about 2 mins. Spoon the beetroot mix into the bowl (it won’t look too pretty at this stage, but bear with me), then use a large metal spoon to fold it into the whisked eggs. Try to conserve as much air in the mixture as you can. Sift in the flour and cocoa powder, then gently fold these in to make a smooth batter. 4) Pour into the prepared tin and bake for 25 mins or until risen all over, with just the merest quiver under the centre of the crust when you shake the pan. Cool completely in the tin, then cut into squares.

FANCY LIVING ON A PIER? Three of Britain's most iconic seaside piers go up
for sale. A TRIO of Britain's most iconic seaside piers are now on the market for a total of £12.6m - as locals bemoaned the sad, changing face of UK holiday resorts. Owner Cuerden Leisure is selling Blackpool's South and Central Piers, on Lancashire's golden sands and the Grade II listed Llandudno Pier, in North Wales. The individual guide prices of each pier are £4.8m for Blackpool Central, £3.3m for Blackpool South and £4.5m for Llandudno Pier. Opening in 1868, Blackpool Central Pier is home to a 33m high (108ft) Ferris wheel - and stands at 341m long (1,118ft) of cast iron. Meanwhile the youngest of the three Blackpool piers, the South Pier, was opened in 1893 and is also the shortest - at 150m long (or 492ft).The South Pier is nicknamed 'The Pleasure Pier' as it is home to amusement arcades and rides. Meanwhile Llandudno Pier, which is 695m long (2,280ft), is the only pier with listed building status meaning any future owners would require Listed Building Consent to make changes to the structure. Llandudno Pier is often chosen for Victorian and Edwardian seaside filming locations. In 2005 it was voted "Pier of the Year 2005" by the members of the National Piers Society. I’m sure even the Greeks are getting fed up by now as they are constantly in the news, I’m sure they want the pain of austerity to disappear and get back to a relative normal life, no such luck and no thanks to Germany finance minister who said in early April that there was no prospect of the Eurozone reaching a deal with Athens on its economic reforms that would unlock bailout funds of over €7bn, potentially leaving Greece short of Money, this meeting is due to take place on the 24th of April. Greece also needs to find around €1.5bn every month to pay social security and public sector wages. Greece tried to raise some money buy going to the bond markets on Thursday (16 April) in order to sell their 2,5,10 year bonds, all bonds were up by 10% with 2 year bonds leading the way with a rate of 16% anything above 7% is not good as this is seen as an increased risk.

One day later that week, she took her four year old son, Sam, out shopping. A woman asked the boy if he was excited about the baby. “Yes,” he said. “I know what we're going to name it. If it is a girl, we're calling her Molly and if it is a boy, we’re going to call it Quits.”
