Torrevieja to undergo major revitalisation with €5 million boost for culture and tourism Torrevieja is preparing for a major transformation following the announcement of a €5 million investment by Carlos Mazón, president of the Valencian Community. Despite protests from a small group of
demonstrators outside the town hall, Mazón confirmed that the funds will focus on restoring the historic Eras de la Sal complex to boost tourism, culture, and heritage preservation.
One of the key projects is the restoration of the Fábrica de Hielo, a 1920s-era ice factory. An initial €100,000 will be invested this year, with up to €2 million planned by 2027. Mazón emphasized that the restored building will serve as a major tourist attraction, featuring a modern tourist office, exhibition areas, and event spaces. In addition, €3 million has been earmarked for the creation of a new Marine Museum within the Eras de la Sal initiative, with €200,000 already allocated to kickstart the project. Mazón also announced €19.3 million for educational infrastructure, including the
construction of two new primary schools, a permanent building for Institute No. 6, and the full renovation of the La Laguna Institute. Further investment a feasibility study
includes for the
expansion of the CV-95 road connecting Orihuela and Torrevieja, estimated at €180 million, and a €100 million public-private redevelopment of Torrevieja’s port, which will feature a recreation center, parking areas, and restoration of the Muelle Mínguez. While Mazón’s announcement was met with some public dissent, the projects aim to revitalize the city’s cultural, educational, and transport infrastructure, ensuring lasting benefits for both residents and visitors.
