Torrevieja invests one million EU grant to boost tourism

Torrevieja is pushing to enhance and strengthen the city’s tourism sector by improving its international image, generating new

experiences and increasing the competitiveness of the local economy. To this end the local government board has awarded two

companies a contract for 1.1 million euros to carry out initiatives based around digital transition and competitiveness as outlined in the city’s Tourism Sustainability Plan. The budget is financed with funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the EU. These actions aim to boost ways of providing tourist services under the ‘Smart Tourist Destination Torrevieja’ initiative, in order to boost tourist activity in the municipality, integrating all participating businesses and incorporating technology as an accelerator for the improvement of tourist services. With this award, the City Council will be able to implement a series of plans such as the creation of a Tourism website, accessible and synchronised with the rest of the tourist mobile applications; a positioning strategy for the city in international search engines; the development of tourism intelligence platforms; creation of

products that enhance the tourism options of Torrevieja, and the establishment of a Digital Transformation office for SMEs in the sector. The contract has a maximum duration of two years, without in any option of exceeding the deadline past 31st December, 2025. It is composed of five categories: digital communication and active listening, artificial intelligence, digital

transformation office, product club and technical assistance office. The first four areas were awarded to the jointly submitted companies Esatur XXI and Open Minds-Open Ideas, while PW Advisory & Capital Services was awarded lot five. For each of the lots, two execution phases are planned. The first is implementation, which includes the design, supply, installation and start-up of all the components included in the lot. The second phase, development and service, involves checking the development and execution of the service until its completion. Continued progress The governing board has also approved the regulations for the urban transport service, which defines stops and schedules, among other parameters, something that Alarcón has defined as “the last step” before going to commission, plenary session and public exhibition. At the same time, the City Council is working on a pricing permetres.
