Speeding is still the most common offence committed by bikers Guardia Civil traffic officers have just completed their latest special surveillance campaign of motorbikes, their second such campaign for 2022, the data from which reveals that excess speed is still the most common road traffic offence committed by bikers in Spain. officers carried out checks on 14,990 motorcyclists resulting in 492 denuncias. Almost a quarter of the fines issued by officers were for speeding. What’s more, 36 drivers were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 17 drivers were fined for not wearing a helmet or wearing it improperly and 14 were written up for reckless or negligent driving. over the course of a full weekend, the dGt traffic authority alongside the traffic Corps of the Guardia Civil, carried out a special surveillance and control

campaign on roads especially frequented by motorcycles. most of the controls, 11,236, were carried out on main roads since these continue to be the most dangerous for bikers, as 77.6% of fatal accidents involving motorbikes take place on primary roads. the most numerous offence was by far speeding, with 112 fines issued (98 on main roads and 14 on motorways). this was followed by not having a valid itV in place(63 fines issued). A government spokesperson said that “the most worrying thing is that 36 motorcyclists were detected driving under the influence of alcohol (31) and other drugs (5). 17 were penalised for not wearing a helmet or doing so improperly and 14 for negligent or reckless driving. Very dangerous behaviour if we take into account that this year 182 motorcyclists have already lost their lives, up until September 15.” in addition, fines were also issued for the use of silencers (38), for not respecting the continuous white line (30), for illegal overtaking (20) or for not having the mandatory documentation (26).
