The Stockton Arts Commission will be hosting Art Night events at the Civic Auditorium quarterly each year showcasing art from a variety of local artists exhibiting in multi-genre forms. Baby & Toddler Storytime

Little hands, big discoveries! This playful introduction to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) is designed especially for ages 2-5. Through simple experiments and hands-on activities, young explorers will investigate the world around them.

Babies and toddlers, please join us for 30 minutes of stories, songs and fingerplays. Storytime promotes literacy, imagination, language development and social development for children. Storytime is followed by 30 minutes of free play. Siblings are welcome!

Pre School Alma Thomas Craft

This fun program blends storytelling, movement, and mindfulness to help kids build strength, coordination, and emotional awareness. No yoga experience needed! For ages 2½–8 with a caregiver. Mats provided while supplies last or bring your own. Socks are recommended.

Join us for a fun craft celebrating painter Alma Thomas in honor of Black History Month. Participants will use paint to create dot art with varying colors, shapes, and sizes.

Sensory-Friendly Storytime

Join the Linden Storytime with your babies, toddlers, and preschoolers for some fun songs, fingerplays, and stories! Storytime isn't just for kiddos - its for parents to learn and talk too! Stick around after storytime finishes for some socializing playtime with blocks, puzzles, and coloring!

A Storytime space for families that accommodates sensory sensitivities. The space includes dimmed lighting, sensoryfriendly music, fidget items, and a quiet corner for ‘breathers’ as needed. Storytime concludes with a themed craft. *This program occurs before library hours*

Preschool

Sports

The Community Services Department offers safe, fun, and friendly youth sports programs for youth ages 3 through 14 (not to exceed the 8th grade). Participants learn to engage in group sports in a positive environment and learn the fundamentals of each sport. All dates and times will be determined by enrollment and age. The City of Stockton offers 25% scholarships on registration fees for our youth sports programs. Please request when submitting your registration form at one of our community centers. Scholarships will not be applied after the program has concluded.

START SMART DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM The Start Smart curriculum is developed by the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) and is developed for the Preschool age group. Start Smart activity sessions are led by Community Services staff members. All equipment is provided; participants only need to come dressed in athletic clothes and shoes.

Start Smart: Skills & Drills (Ages 3-4)

The Skills & Drills program is an interactive 6-week program where children and parents will actively participate together in fun learning sessions that introduce the fundamentals and skill development for current sports.

Lifeguard Team!

Make a difference this summer and beyond!

The City of Stockton Community Services Department is looking for energetic, responsible, and motivated individuals to join our Lifeguard or Lifeguarding Team. As a lifeguard, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our community and promoting healthy recreation at City pools across Stockton.

Eligibility • • • •

Must be 15 years or older by the start of employment Ability to swim 200 yards continuously, tread water for 2 minutes, and retrieve a 10 lb. brick from a depth of 10 feet Must complete American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, and Title 22 – CPR & First Aid for Professional Rescuers (included in City training courses) Must attend and successfully complete one full session (48+ hours total) to receive certification

LIFEGUARD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM Join the Lifeguard Development Program and start earning right away. • • • • •

At your scheduled tryout, complete the swim test prerequisites (200-yard swim, brick retrieval, and tread test). Those who pass will be offered a position at $17/hour and paid to complete the City’s Lifeguard Certification Course. Upon successfully completing all course requirements (48+ hours), participants will be promoted to Lifeguard and earn $19/hour for the remainder of the season. If certification is not achieved, the City may consider other Recreation Division roles, such as aquatic assistant or recreation leader positions, based on availability and interest. Courses are offered throughout the spring; participants must attend one full lifeguard course.

TRYOUTS & INFORMATION SESSIONS Tryouts will be held January and February 2026 to assess swimming skills and begin the hiring process. • Location: Edison High School Pool • Dates/Times: Saturday, January 10: 11a.m.-3p.m. Saturday, January 24: 11a.m.-3p.m. Saturday, February 7: 11a.m.-3p.m.

AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION COURSE DATES Earn your American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification through hands-on, in-person training. This 48+ hour course covers water rescues, first aid, CPR/AED, and professional lifeguard skills. Participants must attend the entire course including all applicable sections and pass all requirements to be certified. Completion of the course is required for employment; participation does not guarantee certification. *NOTE: Times are subject to change to ensure the completion of 48+ training hours.

What is CalFresh Employment & Training (CFET)? The CFET program helps CalFresh recipients gain skills, tools and training to find employment. Participants can engage in a variety of activities: resume building, supervised job search, work experience, vocational training and job retention.
