ONSWTP Earns TOP Environmental Honor

TheTexasCommissiononEnvironmentalQuality(TCEQ)officially recognizedtheO.N.StevensWaterTreatmentPlant(ONSWTP)for achievingtheTexasOptimizationProgram(TOP)statusfor12 consecutivemonths.

Forthosewonderingwhatthatmeans,TOPisavoluntaryprogramthat raisesthebarabovestandardregulatoryrequirementsforwaterquality. Only16treatmentplantsacrossthestatehaveearnedthisdistinction, andmaintainingitforawholeyearcanbechallenging.

ThisachievementisespeciallymeaningfulastheCitycontinuesto investinitswaterinfrastructure.Withover$350millioninvestedin ONSWTPoverthepastfewyearsandmultipleprojectscurrentlyin designandconstruction,therecognitionvalidatesthattheinvestments andtheteam’shardworkarepayingoff.

TheCCWteamhasrecentlywelcomedRutilio“Rudy” P. MoraJr.as its newAssistantDirectorofWastewaterTreatment.Withover 20 years of experienceincivilandenvironmental engineering,Rudybrings impressivecredentialsto therole, includingdegreesinarchitectural and draftingtechnologyandaMasterofScienceinCivilEngineering.He servedinvariouspublic-sectorleadershippositions,including City EngineerandFloodplainManager,overseeingcriticalwater, wastewater, stormwater,andinfrastructureprojects.

ForRudy,wastewatertreatmentisnotjustajob,butit’s alsorooted in hislovefortheoutdoors.

“Asanavidfisherman,Iholdapersonalappreciation forclean and healthywaterways,”Rudysays.“Iunderstandthecritical role wastewatertreatmentplaysinprotectingmarineecosystems,and I am driventoensurethatthewaterdischargedintotheenvironment meets thehigheststandardsofsafetyand sustainability.I seethis role notonly asaprofessionalresponsibilitybut alsoasapersonal mission to preservethenaturalresourcesthatmatter most toour community.”

Inthefirstfewmonths,Rudy’stop prioritiesarekeeping thewastewater treatmentplantsrunningsmoothlybyimprovingwaterquality, implementingshort- andlong-termcapitalimprovementsto infrastructure,andfosteringstrongrelationshipswiththecommunity.

Outsideofwork,Rudy enjoysspendingtimewithfamily andfriends, traveling,learningnewskills,and,ofcourse,enjoying the outdoors. After35yearsin Corpus Christi,Rudyadmiresthecity’s growth andthe peoplewhoarepartofthecommunity.
