EDITION #13

The Importance of Backflow Prevention TALK AGUA

The Backflow Prevention Program serves as an important line of defense in maintaining the community’s safe drinking water supply. But what does our dedicated Backflow team do every day?

Backflow occurs when water flows in the wrong direction, potentially from contaminated sources, back into our clean drinking water system. Without proper protection, contaminated water containing chemicals, fertilizers, or bacteria could flow backward into our system that supplies clean water to homes and businesses.

CCW’s Backflow Prevention Team works behind the scenes to eliminate these risks. They ensure that backflow prevention devices are properly installed and functioning, keeping water flowing toward your tap and never away from it.

The team includes experienced inspectors who specialize in identifying potential cross-connections and verifying that protective devices are in place and working correctly. Each year, our inspectors test over 270 backflow assemblies at lift stations and water/wastewater treatment plants across the city.

While backflow prevention may not be the most visible part of our water system, it’s one of the most important!

The Holidays and Stress

As the holiday season approaches, many people experience increased stress from balancing work, family, and financial responsibilities. This added pressure can impact focus, mood, and safety on the job. Recognizing the signs of stress — fatigue, irritability, and difficulty concentrating — is the first step in preventing burnout and accidents.

Managing Stress Effectively

Plan ahead

Set realistic goals

Take short breaks during the day

Maintain healthy habits

Get enough sleep

Eat balanced meals

Stay active

Communicate

With supervisors

With coworkers

If you feel overwhelmed

Remember, mental well-being is just as important as physical safety. Managing stress helps everyone stay alert, positive, and productive during the busy season.
