Corpus Christi Water - Agua Talk #14

Page 1

Connecting with Our Community TALK AGUA

When you think of Corpus Christi Water, your first thought may be about the water that flows through your faucet, or the wastewater systems that keep the city running smoothly. But, behind the scenes, CCW is doing something equally important. Community outreach is just another vital component of CCW, connecting us to the community we serve.

Over the past few weeks alone, CCW presented at city council meetings in Aransas Pass and Rockport, met with the Flour Bluff Business Association, and held multiple information sessions for the community regarding groundwater projects.

Outreach goes beyond presentations and town halls. CCW regularly visits schools, daycares, nursing homes, senior living centers, and apartments to educate residents about issues such as water conservation and the proper disposal of fats, oils, and grease (FOG).

Every school presentation, community meeting, and information session creates a ripple effect. An informed community is an engaged community.

Q- Why aren’t street sweepers and Vactor trucks using reclaimed water instead of hooking up to a hydrant?

A- Using effluent or reclaimed water from the Oso Wastewater Treatment Plant for City street sweepers and Vactor trucks would require multiple round trips The plant produces limited quantities of Type I and Type II reclaimed water, prioritized for residential and business use Additionally, Type II water is restricted to specific areas and cannot be used in major public spaces.

Finishing the Year Strong

As we close out the year, this is an important time to pause and reflect on our commitment to safety.

The end of the year often brings a faster work pace, holiday distractions, and changing weather conditions, all of which can increase the risk of accidents and near-misses.

I encourage everyone to remain focused, use proper PPE, follow established procedures, and avoid taking shortcuts, even when tasks seem routine or rushed.

Every job large or small deserves the same level of attention and care. Thank you for your dedication, awareness, and teamwork. Let’s finish the year strong and keep safety at the center of everything we do. Happy Holidays and a safe New Year!

Jennifer Wilson is the Safety & Security Coordinator for CCW. She can be reached by email at jenniferw7@corpuschristitx.gov or on her cell phone at 361-502-1076.

Xeriscaping in Action

Who says water conservation can’t be beautiful?

Many of you may have seen the new xeriscape garden outside of the Holly office. The garden features drought-tolerant native plants, like Texas Sage and Firebush, irrigated with reclaimed water and rainwater

This type of landscaping is designed to minimize water use and is vital in our South Texas region where water conservation is essential. The garden features multiple climate-adapted plants and crushed granite that require minimal maintenance and irrigation.

We encourage employees and the community to consider drought-proof landscaping in their own spaces.

CCW represented at the United Way Coastal Bend Campaign Kickoff Event. Our own team member, Hector Hurtado, won the event raffle and scored $100 in scratch tickets! Thanks to everyone who supports the United Way!
