the club championships ‘Adversitymademebetter’
Five different Club Champions share stories of their winning rounds over past few weeks, starting with Remy Huston’s first-time CCCC victory
After seven holes in the final round of the Men’s Club Championship August 24, Remy Huston had a four-shot lead over Tanner Johnson.
Six holes later, Huston was a shot behind Johnson.
“The adversity made me better,” Huston said after he birdied 15, 16 and 17 – regaining a four-shot cushion which led to his name going on the Men’s Club Championship trophy for the first time.
For Huston, though, Sunday’s adversity followed Saturday’s adversity.
He used his rangefinder on the first hole of the opening round and realized he’d left it on slope setting – a USGA rules violation.
“I called it on myself,” Huston said, adding he pointed it out to Pro Brent and was eventually assessed a two-shot penalty.
“My MO was I knew I’d have a two-shot penalty,” he said.

Remy Huston parring #9.
Huston birdied both par 5s on the front, double bogeyed #9 for a 38 on Saturday’s front, which included the penalty. He posted one-under on the back to finish at 73 and a two-shot lead over Johnson.
