It took four extra holes, but Rob Grainger and his guest Peter Andrews won the Burke Cup shootout Saturday – a year after falling short in the 2025 Burke Cup shootout.
“It was meaningful to take it all the way,” said Grainger after capturing the 35 version of one of the The Club’s “majors.”
Sixty teams of two men each – six teams in ten flights – teed off Thursday. They played five 9-hole match play showdowns with each team in their flight. Teams won a point for each hole won in match play and 1.25 points for winning a match. Teams also lost a point for each hole lost.
At the end of the five matches, the teams with the highest point total advanced to the five-hole shootout on holes 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18.
The teams in the shootout were:
First flight: Brian Smith, Jacob Garza.
Second flight: Grainger, Andrews.
Third flight: Sam Bliven, Joe Walton. Fourth flight: David Hamilton, Joseph Walton.
Fifth flight: Michael Fuentes, Tommy

Sixth flight: Derek Chang, Blake Winklemann
Seventh flight: John & Charles Flood.
Eighth flight: Isaac Clubb, Andrew Stapleton.
Ninth flight: Jack Adams, Dustin Sanchez.
Tenth flight: Oscar Trevino, Ismael Garcia.
“Anybody can come from any flight and have a chance,” said Grainger, whose team won four of five matches in the second flight, compiling 16 points to advance to the shootout, where the format changes from match play to alternate shot.
Three teams dropped out after #10, two more on #11, two more on #16 and one more on #17, leaving Grainger and Andrews from the Second Flight vs. Chang and Winklemann from the Sixth Flight on #18. But they tied and the playoff started – tying again on #18, #10, #18 until coming to #10 for what would be the finale hole.
Grainger loved the scene.
“You’ve got 150 people watching in golf carts and yelling at you. It’s awesome,” he said.
Andrews bombed a drive, leaving Grainger 111 yards. He hit a knockdown 56-degree wedge to the right fringe.
Andrews lagged a putt to six feet and Grainger drained the six-footer for par.
Meanwhile, Chang and Winklemann bogeyed the hole and the 2026 Burke Cup was history.
