‘More Experienced’ experience another ‘Battle’ win; Shipley grabs Shootout Hello to all our amazing members here at the Club. We’ve had another very busy week at the Club. Two more championships were conducted over the past week. The annual Battle of the Ages matches were held last Friday and Saturday. This is the Ryder Cup-style format event in which the team selection is determined by your age with the battle between the “Younger” Team and the “More Experienced” Team. Each team had a captain. Sean Williams captained the younger squad, while Danny Brooks was the captain of the slightly older squad. The More Experienced team came into the event as the defending champions. After two days of competition and four formats comprising of Low-Ball, Alternate

Letter from Joe Damian Shipley wins MGA Scramble Points List Shootout On Tuesday evening we concluded our Tuesday Night MGA Scramble season with the Tuesday Night Points List Shootout to determine the overall points champion. The top 20-point earners over the season earned their way into this shootout. Sixteen players competed in the shootout on Tuesday. The format consisted of two separate four-hole shootouts of eight players in each one. The top two survivors from each competition moved on to the final twohole shootout. The last four standing were Damian Shipley, Michael Fuentes, Tanner Johnson and David Krams. After two holes of eliminations and a one-hole playoff, Damian Shipley made a par on hole #1 to win the Shootout and the $400 prize. All four players in the final shootout walked away with Pro Shop Credit. Thank you to everyone who participated all season in the MGA Tuesday Night Scrambles. This week we continue with our OP36 programming and are hosting the Port of Corpus Christi event on Friday.

Letter from Joe Par Fore the Course By Joe R. Mitchell Jr. PGA Head Golf Professional Now that Fall is beginning to ascend upon us, we’re all starting to get into a routine. Kids are at school all week and as parents we know what that routine looks like. Dropping off kids to and from activities. We know what our weekend routines are looking like with the onslaught of college and NFL football. The MLB playoffs are right around the corner and a nightly routine of watching our favorite baseball team is hopefully going to happen. This leads me to two words this week. We have built a routine in our daily lives to take care of all the important things we need to do. We also tend to overreact on how our sports teams are doing early in the season. These can be good and bad things. Let’s equate these words to our golf games. Are WE developing good habits in our games by having a good routine and by reacting well to shots we face on the course? Let’s tackle ROUTINE first. Try to make it a routine to practice and play at least once a week. This goal should be obtainable. Pick an evening or day that fits and stick to it. This allows us to show how important our golf games are to fitting into our daily lives. Once this goal is met work on developing a repeatable per-shot routine that works well for you. Practicing a routine is just as important to making that good golf swing. The second word is REACT. We allow ourselves to react to so many things around us. This effects the way we think and do things. Learning to react in a confident manner in golf will lead to improvement. Reacting to shots in a positive manner whether they are good or bad is also a learned skill. Get on the course and put yourself in a difficult situation. Find a way to get out of it by reacting to it in a positive manner. Thinking positively and reacting in a confident manner will begin to make you a better player. So get out and develop good routines. Play the game of golf by reacting to your situations in a positive manner. Let’s see how fast your scores begin to fall! Come see me!

Basil Oil Yield 1 pint
Herb oils are a quick, easy way to pack a lot of punch and color to a myriad of dishes. This method works with most leafy green herbs. More delicate herbs like chives or tarragon will skip the blanching step. To achieving the bright green silky oil is to let the oil heat up in the blender. The friction will make the oil hot enough to steam. Use basil oil to make a quick vinaigrette, bruschetta or to finish off a Caprese salad.
2 cups packed fresh picked basil leaves, no stems. 2 cups oil Salt to taste
Boil water in a large pot and season liberally with salt. Add the basil & cook for 3-4 minutes on high or until tender. Strain the basil and immediately shock in ice water. Squeeze out the excess water and place in a blender with the oil. Blend on high until the mixture is bright green and you feel the blender carafe heat up. Chill right away in a bowl set over another bowl with ice water. Stir gently to bring the temperature down as soon as possible. Reserve. EXECUTIVE CHEF/ HAROLD RAMOS
