We’ve had a busy week, here’s what’s going on; plus a tip about patience Hello to all our wonderful Members here at CCCC! We hope you have all had a great week so far! Here’s what’s happened this week.
IWA Golf Classic The team here at the Club has had a busy week! We hosted the IWA Golf Classic on Monday to help raise money for the Angels Athletic Department! The event had 104 players and many wonderful volunteers! Thank you to Lee Martinez, Remy Huston, Oscar Trevino and Robert DeLeon took first place in the IWA Golf Classic. Brian Smith for putting the event together. Got to meet many fellow alumni and current students. As the new pro here, I got to see first-hand how our membership and local community supports the youth at IWA!

Tip of the Week: Patience Over my first few weeks as your head golf professional I’ve had moments of reflection throughout each day on how my life and choices have led me and my family here to Corpus Christi and to this amazing Club. I think throughout our journeys in life it’s important to sit back and take time to reflect on where we’ve been and where we’re going in the future. But in doing so, don’t forget about living in the present! Changing jobs and moving cities can be very stressful and can take a toll on you and your loved ones. I have absolutely had moments over the last few weeks of stress and fear. I have also had moments of excitement and pride on what I have accomplished and look forward to accomplishing. One word that’s come to mind after so much reflection is “Patience.” Having patience is so important in life. It’s also very important in golf. You have to have patience when working on your game. You have to be patient when playing a round of golf. You have to be patient with yourself and be your best friend on and off the course. So, how do we allow ourselves to demonstrate patience when we live in such a “results now” world? I believe it’s by setting mini achievable goals. Set goals in your practice schedule. Set goals on how you navigate around the golf course. Set goals for what you do off the course that can make you a stronger player.
Par Fore The Course
Here are some things I have adopted over the years to cover these areas: Plan a realistic practice schedule. Make sure you pick times and days of the week you can dedicate to your practice. Work on short game and full swing equally. Hold yourself accountable to those practice sessions. Take time to set target score goals for on the course. I try to break my rounds down into three-hole increments. I try to shoot even or one under for three-hole mini rounds. I think trying to focus on a whole round score is not the way to train yourself to be patient in a round of golf. Take time to work on your body and mind. Take some of these ideas and try to apply them to your game. It’s like do as I say and not as I do! I’m definitely not practicing as I like to preach. Hopefully that will change once we get settled into Corpus and the Club life a little better. For now, keep on swinging and come see me!
