JAIME HAYON // This year’s Guest of Honour, Jaime Hayon, presented the ‘Hayon DNA Pavillion’, a mini-retrospective of his work. He shares, “The pavilion is an experimental way of looking at architecture. It’s a mixture of folklore together with some influences that I have from my travels – little elements and glimpse of things put together in an experimental box.”

LOTTA AGATON // Swedish interior stylist Lotta Agaton presented the Trends Exhibition, which was themed ‘Contrasts’ and included five styled apartment settings using contrasting materials and colours in unexpected ways.

NOTE DESIGN STUDIO // This studio presented ‘On Everybody’s Lips’, the fair’s design bar, which doubled as both an exhibition space and eatery. A temperate ozone, where the palette shifts from light pink to deep burgundy, the space was high impact and the most photographed space during the fair.

NEWS | TOP SIX HIGHLIGHTS Cult is proud to present the 2017 highlights from a selection of our International Partner Brands who all exhibited in Stockholm during the 2017 Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair:

1. CARL HANSEN & SON REISSUES CH23 CHAIR BY HANS WEGNER Carl Hansen & Son has used Stockholm Furniture Fair to relaunch Danish modernist Hans J Wegner’s CH23 dining chair. The CH23 completes the set of four chairs Wegner designed as his first collection for the Danish brand. The remaining three – the CH22, 24 and 25 – have all either been in constant production or recently re-released. The CH23, manufactured to Wegner’s original design, is a simple, armless dining chair, with cruciform cover-cap detailing where the backrest meets the frame. These can be rendered in a contrasting wood to make them stand out more. The chair’s other notable feature is its seat, which is double woven from paper cord in a process that takes an experienced weaver 1.5 hours. The resulting seat can last for as long as 50 years before needing to be rewoven. While originally made from teak, 2017’s re-release is made from the now more sustainable oak or American walnut. The re-release of the CH23 – nine months after Carl Hansen and Son’s reissue of the CH22 lounge chair – means that all of Wegner’s original designs for the brand are now available again.

2. LOUIS POULSEN INTRODUCES THE ABOVE PENDANT BY MADS ODGARD With the introduction of Above, Louis Poulsen showcases an overtly simplistic lighting design. The Above pendant features a graphic triangle with an arch-shaped opening at the top, revealing the simple cord, creating a downward light and a discreet upward light. This results in a subdued and pleasant ambience. The beautiful detail of the open top, to which its name refers, conceals the light source to provide the pendant with an ingenious and functional aspect. Following Louis Poulsen’s belief that design should shape light, Odgård has taken his knowledge of outdoor lighting and natural ambience inside – and designed a lamp that illuminates a room without dominating. He has considered how the light would interact with and improve its surroundings. Above is manufactured in Denmark and crafted in aluminium with a matt, painted finish. The pendant is available in four sizes and two colours, serving both the home and the hospitality sector.

3. HAY REISSUES MID-CENTURY DESIGNS BY FRISO KRAMER & WIM RIETVELD. HAY presented news with a colour-saturated stand styled as a series of rooms. The major news was the launch of two reissued collections, originally designed by Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld in the late 1950s. The Result Chair and Pyramid Table were typically used in Danish schools throughout the 1960s and 70. Made up of thin steel-sheet bases, and a fine oak seat and backrest, the Result Chair is designed to be light while being strong and retaining a level of flexibility. Similarly, the Pyramid Tables – which can be stacked one on top of the other – feature steel sheet bases with oak table tops. As well as the two original designs, the brands have also developed a bench and a table with a round top. HAY was shortlisted for two Editor’s Choice Awards: Best Stand Design and Best Product for the Result Chair and Pyramid Table.

4. GUBI EXPANDS PERMANENT COLLECTION WITH PRODUCTS CUSTOM-DESIGNED BY GAMFRATESI FOR RECENT HOSPITALITY PROJECT GamFratesi worked with Gubi to create the custom furniture filling Paris’ House of Denmark, which was then launched as a permanent collection at Stockholm Furniture Fair. The Maison du Danemark, located on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, encompasses two restaurants – one a high-end brasserie named Flora Danica, and a second fine-dining experience named Copenhague. The space was completely renovated by the Danish-Italian design duo GamFratesi, who chose materials and colour schemes to create a classic Danish environment fused with a Parisian aesthetic. GamFratesi designed several custom pieces for this project, which Gubi decided to add to their permanent collection including: - Masculo Chair with Four Legs - Un-upholstered Beetle Chair - TS Column Dining Table

5. MAGIS EXTENDS OFFICINA COLLECTION WITH ACCESSORIES & LOUNGE CHAIR DESIGN With the Officina collection, the brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec developed a new creative language for forged iron. Following on from the tables, chair and stools, the collection now expands to include a series of accessories. A lounge chair, coat stand, candelabra, clothes valet and mirror enhance the collection, and add a touch of classic elegance to any space.

6. FRITZ HANSEN INTRODUCES LIMITED EDITION SERIES 7 CHAIR INSPIRED BY JAPANESE CHERRY BLOSSOMS Fritz Hansen’s Choice 2017 is a new interpretation of Arne Jacobsen’s iconic Series 7™ chair that infuses the functional, minimalist Danish design form with the soft, feminine colours of Japanese cherry blossoms. The shell comes in two colours - the deep red Merlot and the serene pastel Nude - which have been developed and perfected over time in Fritz Hansen’s design studio to match with the 4-legged base that comes in a rose gold coating to complete a softer colour palette. Fritz Hansen’s Choice 2017 combines the feminine colours of the Sakura bloom during spring time in Japan with the minimalistic form of Danish Design functionality. The result is a new interpretation of Arne Jacobsen’s iconic Series 7™ that explores the natural surroundings and our understanding of materials. The Series 7™ designed by Arne Jacobsen is by far the most sold chair in the history of Fritz Hansen and perhaps also in furniture history. The pressure moulded veneer chair is a further development of the classic Ant™ chair. The four-legged stackable chair represents the culmination of the lamination technique. The visionary Arne Jacobsen exploited the possibilities of lamination to perfection resulting in the iconic shape of the chair. Series 7™ represents the chair in the Fritz Hansen collection with the widest range of applications.
