LADNER VILLAGE BRAND

As part of the Ladner Village Revitalization efforts, the City of Delta is developing a Ladner Village brand to help express the area’s identity, character, and sense of place. A place brand helps tell a shared story about a community — how it is experienced by residents, visitors, and local businesses. Without one, you miss opportunity to share what makes the village special. Read the summary to learn more about what is being considered and how you can get involved.

ABOUT THIS WORK

Through previous Ladner Village engagement, residents and businesses emphasized the importance of protecting the village’s character while allowing it to evolve over time.

Building on this input, the City undertook a communitybased brand development process that included reviewing past engagement, exploring local history, and speaking with residents, business owners, and community leaders.

A clear theme emerged: Ladner Village has been shaped by the river, the land, and the people who live and work here. This led to the unifying brand idea, “Shaped by the River,” which reflects continuity, connection, and adaptability.

Two preliminary brand identity concepts have been developed to explore how this idea could be expressed visually. These concepts are not final designs and are intended to gather community feedback before a preferred direction is refined and brought forward to Council. See back for concepts.

CONCEPT 1 - LAYERS OVER TIME

This concept is inspired by the idea of layers built up gradually over time, much like the sediment laid down by the river. It reflects how Ladner Village exists because of everything that has accumulated over generations — the land, the work, the stories, and the people. Rather than replacing the past, this approach allows history and change to exist side by side.

The colour palette draws from Ladner’s natural and built environment, including:

• Deep teal tones inspired by the Fraser River and historic building facades

• Warm brick reds reflecting heritage buildings and the working waterfront

• Golden and earthy browns drawn from agricultural fields and wooden structures

Softer creams and greys referencing river mist and weathered materials

Together, these elements represent Ladner Village as a place shaped gradually through use, care,

CONCEPT 2 - FLOW AND CONNECTION

This concept draws inspiration from local landmarks, historic details, and the movement of the river. Flowing shapes reflect the connection between land and water and are reimagined as simple, bracket-like forms that suggest the river holding and supporting the community. These shapes are designed to be flexible and adaptable across signage, events, and digital uses.

The colour palette features brighter, clearer tones inspired by:

• Salmon and herons

• Open skies and grasses

• Everyday working life in the village

Overall, this concept presents a look that feels active, welcoming, and evolving, while remaining grounded in Ladner Village’s roots.
