CHISHOLM STREET UPGRADES

As part of the Ladner Village Revitalization efforts, the City of Delta is proposing to redesign Chisholm Street. A preliminary design concept has been developed to support discussion and gather community feedback before any decisions are made. Read the summary to learn more about what is being considered and how you can get involved.

ABOUT THIS WORK

Building on recent improvements at the Chisholm Street Wharf, the City is exploring opportunities to reimagine Chisholm Street as a stronger connection between Ladner Village and the waterfront.

Chisholm Street is envisioned as an animated shared community space that brings together the waterfront, local businesses, and the character of Ladner Village. The proposed approach would shift the street from a traffic-focused corridor to a people-focused waterfront street, supporting walking, cycling, events, and everyday activity while maintaining access for vehicles. Key features of the proposed design include:

• A one-way, westbound traffic configuration on Chisholm Street

• A new traffic circle at Chisholm Street and

• Georgia Street

• A multi-use pathway and widened sidewalks connecting Elliott Street to Delta Street

• Landscaped areas and street trees

• Angled parking along the north side of Chisholm Street Proposed Concepts

PLANNING AHEAD

Delta is undertaking the design work now to support long-term planning. Following community engagement, the proposed one-way configuration would only move forward to detailed design if supported by Council. Any future construction would be subject to further Council approvals and funding through the City’s five-year Capital Plan.

In the near term, staff will explore improvements—such as enhanced crosswalks and clearer bike lane markings—to support access and connections to the waterfront while longer-term plans are developed.

PARKING CONSIDERATIONS

To better understand resident concerns around parking, the City hired an independent firm to conduct a parking study in 2025. The study found that peak parking demand in the Village centre occurs mid-day on weekdays, and that overall parking capacity remains available during these periods.

With the proposed one-way configuration, the parking supply will be reduced by 69 spaces from the 106 spaces that Chisholm Street currently holds. While some capacity along the waterfront will be reduced, the study indicates that:

• There is sufficient overall parking capacity within Ladner Village

• Waterfront activity occurs outside of peak demand periods and is not expected to increase parking pressure

• Parking management tools, such as time-restricted parking, may be needed to encourage turnover and support local businesses

Parking considerations will continue to be part of the discussion as the project evolves.
