Heritage Fair returned in-person on Saturday, February 25, after a virtual fair last year and no fair the year before due to COVID-19. Hosted by Heritage Patrimoine Cornwall, a municipal committee focused on heritage preservation, Heritage Fair is a yearly event that coincides with Heritage Week which takes place the third week of February each year. “It’s important for all of us in the field of

history to have this opportunity to communicate with each other and the public because there is a lot of interesting stories and things to see in this part of the world that we don’t always think to visit,” said Carole Libbey, Treasurer for Heritage Patrimoine Cornwall and member since 2011, “I always think of this area as a kind of hidden gem in the province.” “Sometimes people just don’t understand or know of the wonderful wealth of history. This

area is where Ontario began. Government, education, church, industry, all happened here, and people should be proud that they are living here,” Libbey added. The fair took place from 9am to 4pm in the former Children’s Place location in the Cornwall Square. Around 16 local historical groups had displays set up at the fair, including Cornwall Community Museum, Friends of Crysler Farm Battlefield, and Glengarry Pioneer Museum Dunvegan.
