This year, The Club is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and last month we hosted an epic bash worthy of the milestone. From the first pop of Champagne to superb culinary and dessert stations and a drone show that lit up the Hill Country sky, it was truly a night to remember.

I wasn’t here 20 years ago, but many of you reading this were. As early members, you were willing to take a chance on Cordillera Ranch and invest in the vision of a best-in-class club community — and for that, I tip my cap to you.

Of course, none of this happens without the dedication and hard work of our remarkable staff. Day after day, past and present, they pour their energy into making The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch one of the very best clubs in Texas, and they deserve a standing ovation.

Their hard work doesn’t just keep our operations running smoothly; it elevates the entire Ranch experience for members, guests and colleagues alike.

ANNIE CURRY

Annie has been a valued member of the Club team for the past two-and-a-half years, serving in both server and bartender roles with exceptional dedication. Throughout her time with the organization, she has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to providing outstanding service and creating memorable experiences for members.

A proud mother of two and a new grandmother, Annie brings warmth and authenticity to every interaction. She has cultivated meaningful relationships with many members, taking the time to learn their preferences and ensuring each visit feels personal and welcoming. Whether it’s remembering a favorite drink or a preferred dish, Annie’s attention to detail sets her apart.

Her passion for hospitality is evident in her willingness to go above and beyond, making each guest feel valued and appreciated. JEREMIAH GOODRICH

Jeremiah Goodrich has been a dedicated member of the Club’s Outside Services team for the past two years, consistently demonstrating growth, reliability and a strong commitment to excellence. During his tenure, Jeremiah has evolved into a trusted and dependable presence, becoming a “go-to” team member for staff, members and management alike.

Known for his versatility and proactive approach, Jeremiah is always willing to step in wherever needed to support daily operations. Whether working behind the scenes to ensure everything runs efficiently or engaging directly with members to create a welcoming and positive first impression, he approaches every responsibility with professionalism and care.

Jeremiah also takes the initiative to stay informed about upcoming reservations and events during each shift. ALBERT

GUERRA

Albert Guerra is currently four years into his second tenure with the Club, bringing a wealth of experience, leadership and passion to his role. He first joined the organization in 2014 as a Dining Room Manager, where he spent three years building a strong foundation before stepping away to broaden his horizons and further develop his expertise within the hospitality industry.

During his time away, Albert sought out new challenges, refined his skills, and deepened his industry knowledge. Ultimately, his journey led him back to the place that has always held a special meaning for him — the Club. Since his return, Albert has continued to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to excellence and a genuine dedication to both the operation and its members.

Albert’s attention to detail and comprehensive understanding of Club operations distinguish him as a true professional. He takes pride in ensuring that every aspect of service runs seamlessly, from behind-the-scenes logistics to the visible member experience. His expertise spans a wide range of areas, including fine dining service, special event execution and technical systems such as printers and point-of-sale platforms.

Widely regarded as a subject matter expert, Albert is a valuable resource for his colleagues, offering guidance and solutions across countless operational facets. NICK MENGER

Nick Menger is truly one of the unsung heroes of the Club, whose contributions over nearly two decades have played a vital role in its continued excellence. Approaching an impressive milestone of 18 years of service this May, Nick stands among the Club’s most tenured and respected team members.

As the lead Irrigation Technician, Nick is responsible for a critical component of the golf course’s overall health and playability. His expertise ensures that the course remains in exceptional condition, supporting both daily play and special events. Beyond his technical responsibilities, Nick is also a dedicated mentor, sharing his extensive knowledge with the Golf Course Maintenance team and helping to develop the next generation of staff.

Nick’s passion for his work is evident not only in the quality of the course but also in his willingness to collaborate across departments. He is often the first to coordinate with other teams during Club events, including golf tournaments, employee appreciation gatherings and management functions, ensuring seamless execution and a positive experience for all involved.

Outside of his professional role, Nick has a keen eye for photography and has captured stunning images of the course, highlighting some of its most scenic and picturesque holes. His creativity offers a unique perspective on the beauty of the Club.

WHAT PAST JOB EXPERIENCES PREPARED YOU FOR THIS POSITION AT THE CLUB?

My 30 years in hospitality, progressing through the ranks into leadership roles, have fully prepared me for this position. Over the past decade, I’ve worked in exclusive private clubs and high-end private dining environments across Nevada, California and Texas, where attention to detail, consistency and elevated service are essential. Every role has contributed to my ability to lead teams, refine operations and deliver exceptional experiences.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST REWARDING MEMBER EXPERIENCE AT THE CLUB?

One of the most rewarding moments was when a member noticed from a distance that I was having a challenging moment. They called me over, gave me a hug and offered genuine encouragement, reminding me that I was doing a good job. It was unexpected and meaningful. Experiences like that, along with consistent support and warm welcomes from many of our members, have made a lasting impact and truly define what makes this Club community special.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST PROFESSIONAL CHALLENGE?

Ensuring that my time is spent where it has the greatest impact, supporting my team, maintaining operational excellence and enhancing the member experience. Balancing those priorities is a constant and rewarding challenge.

DESCRIBE YOUR MOST HAPPY LIFE EXPERIENCE?

Raising my two boys with my amazing wife, surrounded by the support of grandparents and siblings, has been my greatest joy. Being part of their growth and sharing that journey as a close-knit family is something I value deeply.

WHAT WOULD YOUR SLOGAN BE IF YOU WERE A BRAND?

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO SUCCEED?

My family and my team are what motivate me most. I want to set the right example for my kids, showing them the value of hard work, consistency and doing things the right way. At the same time, I feel a strong responsibility to my team to lead with purpose, create stability and build an environment where people can grow, succeed and take pride in what they do. That combination of personal and professional accountability is what drives me every day.

EXCLUDING FOOD AND WATER, WHAT TWO THINGS WOULD YOU WANT IF STRANDED ON AN ISLAND?

A multitool and whoever thought it was a good idea to send me to an island.

IF A GENIE GRANTED YOU THREE WISHES, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?

First, health and happiness for my family. Second, the ability to create real opportunities for others. Third… maybe the ability to pause time, just long enough to catch up on everything and enjoy it a little more.

AS A CHILD, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP?

I’d look ahead to seeing how today’s decisions shape the future.

WHAT WAS YOUR MOST RECENT ADVENTURE?

My most recent adventure was visiting the Club with my family for the first time. From the moment we arrived, the warmth and genuine hospitality from both the staff and members made it a truly memorable experience. The thoughtful planning by the team made the day extra special, complete with a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny, a wonderful meal and time spent at the park fishing together. Seeing my family enjoy the Ranch and connect with everyone made it incredibly meaningful. It was a day we won’t forget.

WHO

WOULD YOUR IDEAL GUESTS AT A DINNER PARTY BE?

I’d go with a mix of personalities that would keep things interesting: Jack Black for the energy and humor, Ben Stiller for the dry wit, and Freddie Mercury to bring the music and presence. And for the wildcard, Anthony Bourdain, to keep the conversation real, grounded and full of great stories. It would be a lively, well-rounded evening with plenty of laughs, perspective and probably some unforgettable moments.

IF YOU COULD ONLY EAT ONE TYPE OF CUISINE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE, AND WHY?

I would choose Japanese cuisine. I was fortunate to be influenced by a Japanese family growing up, where I was introduced to the culture and its approach to food. That experience gave me a deep appreciation for the simplicity, balance and attention to detail, and it’s something I’ve continued to enjoy ever since.

There’s a certain playful rhythm to the Newberry family — one filled with laughter, presence and just enough chaos to create a sense of balance. It’s hard not to feel immediately at ease around this beautiful family, whose life rarely slows down. Yet somehow, this charming couple and their three daughters remain deeply grounded, shaped not only by where they are today, but by the work and determination that brought them here.

For Taylor and Nick Newberry, it’s no surprise that life centers around their three daughters — Ada, Willa and Georgia — eight-year-old fraternal triplets who have, in many ways, redefined everything. “They’ve changed everything for the better,” shared Taylor.

It’s a simple sentiment, but one that carries the weight of a journey that was anything but easy. Their story, however, begins long before the girls — and even before the two of them ever considered a romantic relationship. In many ways, it all started with the great American game of baseball.

Growing up in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Nick and Taylor’s lives quietly overlapped. Nick played baseball — first as a competitor and eventually as a teammate of Taylor’s older brother — while she spent countless hours at games, paying little attention to the boys. It was the kind of proximity that felt incidental at the time, but in hindsight, seems almost inevitable.

“I was oblivious to everyone,” recalled Taylor, laughing at the memory of herself as a young girl. Nick, admittedly, noticed her — but not in a way that would suggest what was to come. He was quiet, focused on sports and not particularly inclined toward small talk. Although only four months apart in age, their childhood interactions were minimal and largely forgotten.

Baseball, however, remained a defining part of Nick’s early life. He went on to play at the collegiate level at the University of North Alabama, where he was recruited as a catcher and even drew attention at the professional level — receiving late-round draft interest and additional opportunities after college — before ultimately choosing to build his life back in Texas.

Taylor, equally driven, pursued athletics through gymnastics and competitive cheer before earning her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, followed by a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from Texas Woman’s University. With early aspirations of becoming a physical therapist, she worked in the medical field before life — and motherhood — shifted her path in a new direction.

Years later, after college had taken them down different paths, their story found its way back through something as simple as a Facebook message. “He likes to say that I messaged him first, but I, a thousand percent, did not,” said Taylor.

“I was sliding into her DMs,” confirmed Nick jokingly. He doesn’t exactly remember why he first reached out — only that he didn’t have her phone number — but what followed was far more important. The reconnection quickly evolved into something meaningful, as the two built a strong friendship and foundation for something real, even in their early twenties. By the time Nick picked Taylor up from the airport, the familiarity between them was undeniable. “It felt like we’d already been seeing each other,” admitted Taylor.

Their early relationship was defined by distance and discipline. Nick’s work in the oil field required him to be away for long stretches — sometimes home only a handful of days out of the year — but instead of creating distance, it reinforced their commitment.

“I think the thing that saved us is we talked every day,” explained Taylor. “We built our relationship on communication.” Nick agreed, “Communication.”

That same discipline would later define Nick’s path in business. What started as a modest idea between friends — initially intended to generate enough extra income to support their hunting hobby — quickly evolved into something far greater. At a pivotal moment, a savvy friend who had built his own business from a garage into a multi-million-dollar company stepped in with the financial backing they needed, offering a simple but telling vote of confidence. “Yeah man, you’re country boys — everyone knows country boys always pay their bills,” Nick remembered him saying.

From there, the business grew organically. Long days turned into longer stretches away from home, as Nick spent years traveling, building relationships and steadily expanding what would eventually become two successful production rental companies in the oil and gas industry, driven in part by his proprietary technology.

Neither Nick nor Taylor grew up with silver spoons, but what they did inherit was a strong work ethic — and a whole lot of tried-and-true Texas grit. “Everything you do has your name attached to it,” explained Nick. “I just try to put my best effort forward in everything I do.”

That philosophy continues to shape not only his approach to business, but also the way he and Taylor raise their daughters. If hard work defines one part of their story, tenacity defines another.

Starting a family proved far more complex and heartbreaking than either anticipated. The couple was elated to be expecting their first child, but complications from Turner Syndrome at four months brought the experience to an end. “I had to have a D & C, which almost took my life, and we were eventually told we would never be able to have kids naturally,” shared Taylor. After experiencing loss after loss — something Taylor notes is often left unspoken — they made the difficult decision to pursue fertility treatments. What followed was something no one could have predicted: triplets. “When the doctor told us [as he was looking at the monitor] there was three, Nick disagreed, ‘No, there’s only two,’” Taylor recalled.

In fact, there were three siblings sharing their mother’s womb. When they were born, they arrived just seconds — barely a minute — apart, yet each with a distinct personality all their own. “The saying holds true — third times a charm! And the number 3 was something that liked to stick around!” mused Taylor.

The early days were, understandably, a blur of schedules, sleepless nights and constant motion. With no family nearby, Nick and Taylor quickly learned to adapt, creating systems that allowed them not just to manage, but to thrive. “It didn’t take long for us to realize we were going to be exhausted,” said Taylor, explaining the decision to hire night nurses. “But the nurses were the biggest blessing,” she added.

Today, Nick and Taylor have three vivacious — and at times strong-willed — young girls. Ada, athletic and fearless, can often be found right by Nick’s side. She’s hands-on, competitive and always ready for whatever comes next. Georgia brings a quieter, more thoughtful energy, with a creative mind and natural curiosity. While Willa, the most tender of the three, leads with emotion and empathy.

“Willa, she’s my kryptonite,” confided Nick. “She’s just so sweet.”

“She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body,” agreed Taylor. Together, they form a dynamic that is as lively as it is deeply connected — competitive, playful and constantly evolving. “Full meltdown if one loses,” laughed Nick.

But beneath the laughter is a strong sense of structure. “We’re not soft parents — we’re realistic,” Taylor said. For Nick, that means accountability, discipline and an old-world sense of respect that sometimes feels forgotten. For Taylor, it’s about balance — ensuring each child feels seen and supported. Life, as she describes it, is “organized chaos.”

Two years ago, the Newberry family made the move to Cordillera Ranch, bringing both logistical ease and a renewed sense of community. With their ranch just a few hours away, Nick can remain connected to work while still being present for the everyday moments that matter most. “Now, he can go down there while the girls are in school and still be home for dinner,” she noted.

However, the other deciding factor was Boerne ISD’s Dual Language program. The girls had already been attending Spanish school for two years as preschoolers, and Nick and Taylor wanted to continue that education beginning in Kinder. “They are in the program through 5th grade! And are fluent in Spanish. Something that will largely be beneficial to them throughout their life,” said Nick

Today, their lives revolve around the girls’ activities — golf, tennis, pickleball, horseback riding, soccer, flag football, jiu-jitsu, gymnastics, swimming, D1 training and more. “They’re into everything,” said Taylor.

“I’m a girl dad,” Nick added proudly.

Outside of their busy schedules, the Newberrys find joy in quieter moments — family game nights, friendly competition and time spent together.

“We love playing games — cards, puzzles,” offered Taylor. “Nick always jokes that I’m an old woman trapped in a younger body because I love bingo, family game nights, bowling… and we’re a competitive family.”

Their ranch remains a constant thread — a place where hard work meets tradition and the family reconnects. And the purchase of a second ranch in West Texas last year, named “Tesnus Ranch” because “Sunset” was already taken, provides another retreat, plus a chance to discover the property’s rich history.

At Cordillera Ranch, they’ve also found community and shared experiences that extend beyond their immediate family. “We’ve formed some really good friendships here,” shared Taylor, who admits the transition came at a moment when she desperately needed a change. Before the move, caring for the girls had con-

sumed so much of her time that she felt she’d lost herself, but settling in here unexpectedly led her to discover pickleball. After an introductory course, Taylor was hooked and started taking weekly lessons. “Nick jokes I took it too far. But it’s been an outlet for me and something I really enjoy. I started playing in tournaments and bringing home some hardware! I encourage everyone I know to come out and learn to play. It’s social and fun, and most of the time you’re having so much fun you don’t realize the workout you’re getting. I’ve also met some pretty incredible ladies… and guys playing!” Taylor said, laughing.

As for their girls, Nick and Taylor recognize they are getting to experience things their parents never had growing up. But the opportunities come with life lessons. “We’ve worked so hard to give this to them, but we also teach them that nothing is handed to you. You have to work for what you want,” explained Taylor.

“As long as they’re happy, I’m happy,” added Nick. In many ways, the Newberry family represents a modern kind of legacy — one built not on inheritance, but on effort, resilience and a shared commitment to doing things the right way.

Their life may be full, fast-paced and at times chaotic, but it is also intentional and richly lived. And in that balance — in the space between hard work and deep-rooted love — they’ve built something that will no doubt carry forward through their girls, and generations to come.

A 20-YEAR TRADITION WORTH CELEBRATING

The 2026 C-Star Member-Guest was contested April 16–18 and marked a milestone moment for The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch, as we celebrated both the Club’s 20th Anniversary and the 20th playing of this signature event.

Over three days, the C-Star once again delivered everything it has become known for — great competition, memorable moments and an unmatched atmosphere both on and off the golf course.

The format remained a player favorite: a Thursday practice round and putting competition, followed by five 9-hole round robin matches within each flight, all building toward Saturday’s Lone Star Shootout to determine our Overall Champions. The 60-team field was divided into flights, where every match carried weight and momentum could shift quickly.

As is often the case in the Texas Hill Country, the weather was a storyline throughout the week. Forecasts hinted at rain and potential delays for Saturday, and while we prepared for every scenario, Mother Nature ultimately held off when it mattered most. Conditions allowed for a full and uninterrupted championship — something we certainly did not take for granted.

Friday’s three-match gauntlet set the tone for the event, testing both endurance and focus. Matches swung late, leads disappeared quickly, and by the end of the day, very little had been decided. Heading into Saturday, nearly every flight was still up for grabs, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

Following the final round of match play, our 10 flight winners advanced to the Lone Star Shootout, contested over the tough stretch of holes 10, 11, 16, 17 and 18. This year’s Shootout presented a unique and demanding challenge, as players teed off into a steady 20 mph north wind — creating a dynamic rarely seen on holes 10 and 11. What are typically scoring opportunities quickly turned into tests of control and discipline.

Hole 11 showed its true character. With the wind directly in the players' faces, it forced 12 tee shots from just 8 teams, a testament to both the difficulty of the con-

ditions and the pressure of the moment. It was a reminder that in the Shootout, nothing comes easy and every shot matters.

With spectators lining the finishing holes and the energy building across the property, the stage was set for a dramatic conclusion. In the end, it came down to a defining moment.

Under the pressure of a weather delay and with the championship on the line, Brady Shivers, guest of Brett Nichols, stood over a 10-foot putt for birdie. With the entire field watching, he calmly rolled it in to secure the team's victory.

Congratulations to our 2026 C-Star Champions, Brett Nichols and Brady Shivers, on an impressive performance and a clutch finish when it mattered most. Their names will now be etched into the tradition of C-Star and added to the Champions Gallery.

While the competition is always at the forefront, C-Star continues to stand apart because of the experience surrounding it. From the Tree Bar and The Cave keeping players fueled throughout long match days, to the camaraderie built within flights, to the energy of the Stag Party and the buzz of the Shootout, the event consistently delivers a complete experience for members and guests.

Saturday evening provided the perfect conclusion, as the field gathered for the Awards Dinner and 20th Anniversary Celebration. It was a special night recognizing not only this year’s champions, but also the people, traditions and moments that have shaped C-Star over the past two decades.

The evening was capped off in memorable fashion with a drone show that lit up the Hill Country sky — a fitting tribute to 20 years of tradition and a celebration that will not soon be forgotten.

As we look ahead, the foundation of this event remains as strong as ever. C-Star continues to evolve while staying true to what makes it special — a balance of competition, camaraderie and an experience that keeps members and their guests coming back year after year.

As the new Director of Golf at The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch, I couldn’t be more excited to work alongside this exceptional Golf Operations and Instructional Team. From day one, their experience, passion for the game and genuine commitment to our members have stood out. Whether you’re sharpening your skills, trying something new or simply taking in the beauty of the course, this team is here to support golfers of every level with enthusiasm and care.

My path into the golf industry wasn’t traditional, but my dad is the Head Golf Professional at Corpus Christi Country Club, which gave me insight into the club environment. I entered the business about four years ago and quickly found my passion in merchandising and member experience. I began my career at Corpus Christi Country Club, where I gained hands-on experience in buying, merchandising and member communications, and an understanding of retail operations in a club setting.

I was never in the golf industry prior to finding a home at The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch in August 2022, shortly after retiring from the police force, but I am blessed that a management position was created for me and I appreciate it.

Being a police officer for 29 years has helped me interact with both members and co-workers alike. I have found there are so many people here with different backgrounds and the best part is getting to know them. When you appreciate people and are open to getting to know them, it creates a bond to provide better service. Simply letting members know that we are happy to see them and we are there for them goes a long way. But ultimately, I want every day at the Club to feel like a great vacation for our members.

Golf Merchandisers. I also attended the annual AGM Retail Conference this past February and recently earned my Certified Retail Management certification.

Building relationships is at the core of everything I do. I approach retail with a “personal shopper” mindset, taking the time to understand each member’s preferences and proactively connecting them with products they will love.

A great golf experience extends beyond the course — it includes every touchpoint, from the first impression in the Golf Shop to the thoughtful details that make members feel known and valued.

A strong golf operations team is defined by communication, adaptability, a shared commitment to service and collaboration. At Cordillera Ranch, I’m excited to build on an already strong foundation and continue creating a retail experience that feels elevated and uniquely tailored to our membership.

For me, the essentials of a strong golf operations team are customer service, consistency and chemistry between the operations team and members. I am always looking for input from our staff and members on how and where we can improve.

We are constantly working to fine tune our services, and I believe the successful implementation of new ideas comes from good communication.

Another thing I believe is vital to our operation is our availability for our members to answer any questions they may have. I let our staff and members know I am always available by phone if I am no longer at work. And if they do call with questions, I want them to know I appreciate them reaching out.

Golf was a large part of my life from a young age and I was focused on playing professional golf as a career. I competed at the highest levels as an amateur and eventually went on to play college golf and professional golf on the Symetra (now Epson) Tour. When I decided the grind of

I was fortunate to grow up at a country club in OKC and started playing golf with my dad and grandpa at the age of 2. Once I found out you could have a career in golf, I was hooked and didn’t want to

May marks my 10-year anniversary at The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch, but prior to that, I worked at two public golf courses. The first put a strong emphasis on player development programs while the other provided experience in managing the operation. Both experiences have helped us build an instructional program here at the Club that fits the members’ needs and is cohesive with the overall operation.

We are also proud to have assembled a well-rounded professional team who works closely in all areas of the operation.

At Cordillera, I hope to be able to provide a unique personalized golf experience through individual and group coaching offerings, which enhance members’ playing abilities and overall enjoyment of the game. Every person that walks into the Performance Center, regardless of skill, is different with varying needs and goals, so

do anything else. I attended the University of Central Oklahoma, majoring in Business Administration and being a part of the PGA Golf Management program, and received my Class A PGA membership in 2015.

I have had the opportunity to be a part of some pretty special clubs and work for some really great golf professionals in my career. In my time at each club, I have learned a lot about myself and the approaches I want to take to be the best I can be. I have also learned that the essentials for a strong golf operations team are trust, accountability and teamwork. To have a high functioning and talented team that works together to achieve big things, you have to have these three core values to be successful.

This also creates a great golf experience for our members. I was raised with the “treat everyone like you would want

The Southern Texas PGA, PGA and LPGA are my go-tos for the majority of organized education. I am also American Development in Golf Certified and serve on the Callaway Golf National Fitters Board and LPGA Education Committee.

Over the years I have been lucky enough to build relationships with many members here at the Club and I have the added benefit of being able to spend extended periods of time with players on the lesson tee, where I can not only help people improve their game, but also find out who they are as individuals and how we can better serve them as members overall. At the end of the day, my job is to get people playing on the course and enjoying the game!

As an instructor, I keep things very simple. I will dig into my TPI background, see how you move and tailor the experience from there. Keeping things simple on all skill levels is very important. Golf is hard enough as it is and if you are trying to play golf and remember 100 different things while trying to hit a golf ball, it will drive you mad! Keeping things simple and retainable helps me build a steady foundation with my students, so things start to feel second nature the more we get together for lessons down the road.

AARON “AK” KILIAN-SMITH, PGA 1ST ASSISTANT GOLF PROFESSIONAL

Cordillera Ranch is where I started my journey to PGA membership back in the fall of 2016. By the end of summer that next year, I had been offered a position at Escondido in Horseshoe Bay, followed by a Top 100 Club in Jackson Hole. In the spring of 2024, I proudly returned to

Cordillera Ranch with a mission to pay it forward to the Club that gave me my start.

I have had a golf club in my hand since I was 18 months old, according to my parents. In middle school, I would clean up baskets on a driving range for free balls, and work in the shop on the weekends for extra cash. At 16, I started working at River Crossing in Spring Branch throughout high school and into college. Around that time, I suffered the accident that left me blind in my right eye, but I found my passion for golf and chose to set out to make it a career. I have done just about every job at a course over the years and proud of it.

I have been very fortunate to learn from some of the best instructors out there. I also utilize the Southern Texas PGA and PGA membership requirements for continued education. As for my teaching, I try to stay away from too many technical thoughts and get my students moving better.

JOE FONTANA ASSISTANT GOLF PROFESSIONAL

While I only recently joined the golf team at The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch on March 31 of this year, I have been

passionate about the game of golf for as long as I can remember. I started swinging a club at just 2 years old and played varsity golf all four years of high school.

Although I stepped away from the game briefly after high school, I rediscovered my love for it while attending Texas A&M–Corpus Christi. During that time, I reached out to a local golf professional for an opportunity, which led me to quickly grow into an Assistant Golf Professional role by 2022 at Corpus Christi Country Club.

While it took some time to fully understand the club culture, my final year there significantly strengthened my confidence and helped prepare me for this next chapter.

Those are the little things I started learning at Cordillera and polished through my experience at some very high-end service clubs before returning. This kind of attitude and start-tofinish service throughout the day is what I have found makes for the best experience at a private club.

I believe that being outgoing, personable and bringing a positive, lighthearted energy to a team are some of the most important qualities in this profession.

I also make it a priority to stay current in teaching by observing and learning from fellow professionals, and constantly exchanging ideas and techniques. When it comes to instruction, I find that teaching through feel is often the most effective approach, as it helps players better understand the motion of the swing, while still incorporating some mechanical elements when needed.

I was first drawn to golf by its unique blend of challenges, strategy and personal growth. What was once a curiosity quickly became a passion, as I found not only enjoyment in playing but also fulfillment in helping others improve. I entered the industry with a desire to turn that passion into a profession, starting in golf operations and instruction, where I developed a strong foundation in both player development and club management.

I believe a strong golf operations team is defined by professionalism, communication and a shared commitment to service. Team members should be proactive, detailed-oriented and willing to support one another to ensure a seamless experience for members and guests. A positive culture behind the scenes always translates to a better experience on the course.

My teaching style is simple, adaptable and focused on results. I believe in meeting each golfer where they are and tailoring instruction to their individual needs and goals. Whether working with

golf by my uncle, Forrest Smith, who was a lifelong PGA Golf Professional.

I got my start as an Assistant Pro at Ridgemoor Country Club in Chicago, Illinois when I was 25 years old.

As a young assistant, I learned that a Golf Professional must learn to wear many hats, such as managing caddies and outside staff, club repair, and running tournaments.

But my passion for teaching the game is what really inspired me to pursue a career in golf. I enjoy seeing players get better! I have been fortunate to have worked for several great teachers throughout my career.

I have adapted my teaching style over the years to include Trackman, Foresight and other modern teaching technologies. My teaching style is simple. I don’t teach a specific method, meaning, one size does

a beginner or an experienced player, I emphasize clear communication, practical drills and building confidence. My goal is to make improvement both achievable and enjoyable, so every student leaves with a better understanding of their game and a renewed enthusiasm for it.

To stay current with industry best practices and teaching methods, I regularly engage in continuing education, attend workshops and study modern instructional techniques. I also incorporate technology and data where appropriate to enhance learning and provide clear, objective feedback.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR LAWN LIKE A GOLF

As the days get longer and temperatures begin to rise, your lawn and landscape are waking up from winter — just like the golf course. Spring is one of the most important times of the year for setting the foundation for healthy, resilient turf through the heat of summer.

At the Club, we focus heavily on preparation, recovery and consistency this time of year. The good news? Many of those same principles apply right at home.

1. START CLEAN: RESET AFTER WINTER

Remove leaves, sticks and debris. Lightly rake matted areas and redefine bed edges. On the golf course, we want sunlight, air and warmth reaching the turf as quickly as possible. Debris slows everything down and can create disease pressure.

2. SOIL FIRST: FEED THE FOUNDATION

Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer and consider a soil test if you want precision. Avoid over-fertilizing early — it creates excessive growth and stress later. We don’t chase color on the course — we build sustainable growth.

3. MOWING MATTERS MORE THAN YOU THINK

Raise your mowing height slightly in spring, never remove more than one-third of the blade and keep blades sharp. Mowing is the most important cultural practice — done right, it drives turf health.

4. WATER SMART, NOT MORE

Water deeply but infrequently, ideally in the early morning. Adjust for rainfall. Too much water weakens roots and invites disease. Precision moisture management is key.

5. GET AHEAD OF WEEDS

Apply pre-emergent herbicides before weeds germinate and spot treat early. The best defense is a dense, healthy lawn that naturally crowds weeds out.

FINAL THOUGHT: THINK LIKE A SUPERINTENDENT

The difference between an average lawn and a great one is consistency and timing. Focus on small, disciplined actions done well each week, avoid extremes, and pay attention to what your lawn is telling you.

WHY WE TIGHTEN UP IN BIG MOMENTS

In competitive sports, even highly skilled athletes sometimes experience a puzzling phenomenon: when the stakes are highest, performance can suddenly decline. A player who has executed the same shot flawlessly thousands of times may tighten up on match point, miss a routine serve, or hesitate during a decisive rally. This experience, commonly known as choking under pressure, reflects the complex interaction between psychology, physiology and performance. Understanding why this happens is the first step toward helping athletes manage pressure and perform more consistently.

WHY PERFORMANCE CHANGES IN HIGH-PRESSURE MOMENTS

At its core, competitive pressure alters how the brain and body operate. In everyday practice or low-stakes competition, athletes rely on automatic motor patterns developed through repetition. These patterns allow movements to occur smoothly and instinctively.

However, when the importance of the moment increases a match point, a tournament final or a decisive tiebreak, the brain often shifts from automatic execution to conscious control. Instead of simply reacting, the athlete begins thinking: don’t miss this shot, I need to win this point, or everyone is watching. This shift interrupts the automatic flow of movement. Sports psychologists often refer to this as “paralysis by analysis.” Skills that normally run on autopilot become mechanical and less fluid. At the same time, the body experiences a physiological stress response. Heart rate increases, breathing becomes shallow and muscles tighten. While a moderate level of arousal can sharpen focus and reaction time, excessive stress reduces coordination and timing.

Another factor is outcome-focused thinking. Under pressure, athletes often begin playing not to lose rather than playing to execute. When attention shifts from

the process of the shot to the consequences of the result, decision-making becomes more cautious and hesitation creeps in.

WHY MASTERING PRESSURE IS SO DIFFICULT

If understanding pressure were enough, every athlete would perform at their best in critical moments. Yet managing competitive stress remains one of the most challenging aspects of sport.

One reason is that pressure activates deep survival mechanisms in the brain. The same physiological response designed to protect humans from danger, commonly called the fight-or-flight response, is triggered in high-stakes competition. While helpful in situations requiring strength or speed, it can interfere with the fine motor control required for precise athletic skills.

Another challenge is perceived consequences. When athletes believe that a single point could determine the outcome of a match, their focus naturally shifts to the potential loss rather than the present action.

Finally, pressure is difficult to replicate in practice. Training environments are predictable and controlled, while competition introduces uncertainty, spectators and emotional investment. Because of this difference, the mental demands of com-

petition often exceed what athletes have rehearsed.

STRATEGIES TO HELP ATHLETES PERFORM UNDER PRESSURE

Athletes who consistently perform well in big moments typically develop strategies that keep their focus on execution rather than outcome.

1. Develop a Consistent Pre-Point Routine: A brief sequence such as adjusting equipment, taking a breath, visualizing the target, and committing to the shot creates familiarity and reduces mental clutter. Would you see yourself using Rafael Nadal’s pre-routine?

2. Focus on the Process, Not the Result: Athletes perform best when their attention remains on controllable elements such as footwork, preparation and shot selection. Shifting focus from “winning the point” to “executing the next shot well” keeps the mind in the present.

3. Train Under Simulated Pressure: Incorporating competitive scenarios during practice such as starting games at deuce, playing sudden-death points, or creating consequence-based drills helps athletes become more comfortable with high-stakes situations.

4. Use Breathing to Regulate Arousal: Even a single deep breath before serving or returning can help bring the body back into an optimal performance state.

5. Build Confidence Through Repetition: Confidence under pressure develops over time through consistent training and successful experiences. The more often athletes execute skills in challenging situations, the more resilient their performance becomes.

THE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE OF MENTAL STRENGTH

Pressure is an unavoidable part of sport, and it’s what makes competition meaningful and exciting. The difference between athletes who struggle in critical moments and those who thrive is rarely physical ability; it’s their capacity to manage the psychological demands of the moment. The more time spent practicing fundamentals, taking lessons, rehearsing specific scenarios, and building consistency can reduce hesitation and improve decision-making during matches. By understanding pressure and training athletes to focus, regulate emotions, and trust their preparation, competitors can turn highstakes moments into opportunities for excellence. The aim isn’t to remove pressure but to perform confidently alongside it — the mark of elite performers.

NOISE? NOISE?

Do you ever have thoughts that you know are not serving the better good of where you want your mind to be? Most of us live with a constant stream of mental chatter: daily to-do lists, people we need to talk to, worries, regrets, prayers, etc. The common saying, “my thoughts are running away,” rings true with food as well. This food noise can influence choices and create unnecessary stress. I want to talk about food noise and ways to quiet it so eating feels calmer and more intentional.

I bet you thought I was going to speak about construction or traffic noise, right? Food noise is continuous, intrusive mental chatter about when and what you will eat next. It leads to overconsumption, takes up space in our brain where better thoughts can be, disrupts focus, and contributes to weight gain or loss. This isn’t your typical meal planning or dinner prep — food noise can drown out the focus that is meant for work, relaxation, prayer or meditation.

Let’s talk about both sides of food noise — how it can contribute to both weight gain and weight loss, creating a negative mental atmosphere around eating. In nature, animals eat when they are hungry and stop when they are satisfied; they don’t worry or fret about it. However, human chatter becomes an unhealthy and unbalanced obsession, falling in the category of “what’s next” instead of being in the present, creating a false sense of control, and revealing deeper stressors or unhealed areas in our life.

FOOD NOISE AND WEIGHT GAIN

The biggest triggers of intrusive food thoughts often stem from stress, food restriction, boredom, fatigue, hormonal shifts or environmental cues like food smells or images. Staying present helps interrupt this cycle, because our brains naturally fall into repetitive loops. The only way to break a looping thought is to replace it with an intentional new one. Some people use

GLP1 medications for support, while others rely on cognitive therapy to redirect obsessive patterns. Without intervention, constant food thoughts can lead to overeating, followed by guilt or shame, which then fuels more overindulgence. This creates a repeating cycle — one that becomes easier to disrupt once you recognize what’s driving it.

We all want to attain the goal of overall wellness and balance in our lives. Steps to counter the food noise are already in your toolbox!

• Check-in with yourself often, asking if the thoughts you have are serving a higher purpose for you.

• Journal or digitally take notes on these thoughts to see unhealthy patterns. “Rewrite to rewire” these thoughts, creating a new dialogue with your day.

• When thinking about upcoming events, focus on non-food related things, like the social interactions you will enjoy, what you will wear and positive things you look forward to.

• Mindful eating strategies, like putting the fork down as you chew slowly, noticing the smell, taste and texture of what you’re eating, taking sips of your beverage, and putting the phone away during your meal will help with food noise.

• Involve a close friend to be accountable with you. Maybe they struggle with the same thoughts!

FOOD NOISE AND WEIGHT LOSS

Food noise happens in a backwards way with someone who struggles with controlling food intake and it is usually linked to similar triggers: stress, food restriction and an obsession with it. This obsessive-compulsive disordered behavior causes extreme weight loss, vitamin deficiencies and can cause a person to be underweight. Controlling calories, food portions and groups, as well as the number on the scale, easily becomes anorexia. Attempts to control what goes in the body by purging food is bulimia. Both can happen separately or together. Food noise is just as constant and intrusive in someone who is obsessed with weight loss. These obsessive issues might need more intervention, such as counseling or psychotherapy.

In the end, food noise isn’t really about food — it’s about awareness, balance and healing. When we learn to notice the chatter instead of obeying it, we create space for calmer choices and a healthier relationship with eating. Whether food noise shows up as overeating, restriction or constant mental negotiation, the path forward begins with understanding your triggers and gently interrupting the patterns that no longer serve you. With mindfulness, support and intentional practice, you can quiet the noise and return to a more peaceful, present and intuitive way of nourishing yourself.

A FRESH SEASON OF FLAVOR ARRIVES AT AXIS

SPRING HAS ARRIVED, AND WITH IT COMES THE NEXT CHAPTER OF AXIS

Over the past several weeks, Executive Chef Isaac Cantu and the culinary team have taken the opportunity to step back, rework and refine both our lunch and dinner menus. After a soft rollout and a chance to fine-tune a few details, we are excited to officially share the new Axis experience with you. This menu has been especially meaningful to create because it reflects how we cook, what we believe in and the ingredients we are proud to serve.

For lunch, we wanted the menu to feel more fun, approachable and built for the way our members actually enjoy the middle of the day — more handhelds, fun fare, brick oven pizzas, refreshed salads and a lineup of dishes that are already starting to become go-to favorites. The Big Axis Burger, Chicken Pesto Pizza, Smoked Salmon Toast and Seared Ahi Tuna Tataki have all been getting great feedback early on.

Dinner has been reimagined to feel more like what Axis is becoming — chefdriven, a little bolder and centered around great ingredients. We’ve expanded the appetizer section, refreshed the salads and introduced new entrées like the American Red Snapper, Chili-Dusted

Texas Quail, Prime Filet and CoffeeCrusted Cowboy Ribeye — dishes we’re genuinely excited to put in front of you.

One of the additions we’re most excited about is the new “Pure & Prepared” section. It’s simple in the best way — choose your protein, tell us how you want it prepared and we’ll pair it with two seasonal sides. It’s clean, flexible and lets the ingredient speak for itself.

Just as important as what is on the menu is where it comes from.

We spend a great deal of time sourcing with intention. Much of our seafood is hand-selected and flown in within 24 hours, with many selections coming directly from Honolulu. Our Verlasso salmon is among the highest quality available

— never farm-raised in the conventional sense — and selected for its consistency and clean flavor.

Our chicken has always been organic and air-chilled. Our beef program is centered around Akaushi, or Red Wagyu, sourced from a ranching partner less than 60 miles away that we have worked with for more than 14 years. From our burger patties and hot dogs to the steaks, that relationship and quality carry through everything we do.

We also work closely with local farmers and specialty purveyors to bring in the best vegetables, greens, mushrooms and seasonal products available.

Nearly everything on the menu is made in-house from scratch. Every roll, loaf, pizza dough and sandwich bread served in Axis comes out of our kitchen. The same goes for our sauces, dressings, soups and desserts.

The response over the past week has been incredibly encouraging, and we’re excited about where things have landed. There’s a lot of energy behind this menu, and we’d love for you to come experience it.

The Swim Club at Cordillera Ranch returns for another unforgettable season of long afternoons, stunning sunsets, poolside dining and the traditions members look forward to every year.

Perched on one of the highest points on the Ranch, the Swim Club remains one of the Club’s favorite gathering places during the summer — a place to relax beside the adults-only infinity-edge pool, watch the kids race down the slide, enjoy lunch and cocktails with friends, or stay late as the sun sets.

With the resort-style pool, the waterslide, putting green, game area and the poolside dining experience that has become a summer favorite at the Club, the Swim Club is once again ready for another season filled with fun.

WHAT’S RETURNING THIS SUMMER

FUN IN THE SUN

Daily poolside games and activities return all summer long. Kids can jump out of the pool and into some friendly competition with returning favorites including Giant Jenga, Limbo Contest, Giant Connect 4, Happy Hoppers, Duck Races, Bingo and more.

New this summer, paddle board races will take place each day, giving kids and families a new way to compete in the pool and cool off at the same time.

Activities will rotate throughout the week, creating something new to enjoy each day.

ICEE TUESDAYS

Every Tuesday, children can cool off with a complimentary ICEE poolside — one of the Swim Club’s favorites.

FREE THROW THURSDAYS

Free Throw Thursdays are back. Kids and adults alike are invited to take their shot at the basketball hoop. Sink the basket and everyone at the pool wins a complimentary treat.

PUTT FOR A PRIZE SATURDAYS

New this summer, the putting green joins the weekly fun.

Each Saturday afternoon, head over to the Swim Club putting green for Putt for a Prize. Weekly challenges may include closest-to-the-pin, longest putt and more.

Family movie nights return on select Friday evenings. Bring the family, settle into the pool, and enjoy a favorite movie under the stars with popcorn, movie packs and poolside drink specials.

Once each month, the Swim Club will host Retro Night at the Pool. Grab a cocktail, settle in with friends and enjoy a fun night featuring Name That Tune, trivia, throwback music and a retro movie under the stars beside the infinity-edge pool.

SIGNATURE SUMMER EVENTS

MEMORIAL DAY POOL PARTY: MAY 23

Kick off summer with one of the Club’s favorite traditions. The annual Memorial Day Pool Party will feature a live DJ, poolside buffet, drink specials, games with prizes, and activities for the entire family.

The celebration will take place from 11:00am to 3:00pm, with the pool remaining open into the evening.

STAR-SPANGLED POOL PARTY: JULY 4

Celebrate Independence Day poolside with music, family games, summer favorites from the culinary team, and all the red, white and blue spirit that has become a Cordillera Ranch tradition.

The celebration will take place from 11:00am to 3:00pm, with the pool remaining open into the evening.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL POOL PARTY: AUGUST 8

Before the school year begins again, join us for one final celebration of the season with pool games, music, dinner and a few last trips down the slide.

This year’s Back-to-School Pool Party will end with a Battle of the Schools water gun fight, giving kids one last chance to celebrate summer before the first day of school.

This celebration will take place from 4:00 to 8:00pm

Poolside dining returns this summer with fresh seasonal favorites, family classics, lighter fare, frozen cocktails and refreshing beverages designed for long afternoons at the Swim Club.

Beginning Memorial Day weekend, the Swim Club will offer full pool amenities including lifeguards, towel service, and poolside food and beverage service.

Regular summer hours will continue daily through early August, with select late-summer weekends continuing afterward. Mondays will remain closed except for holiday weekends.

As always, if members are still enjoying the pool at 8:00pm, the Club will continue food, beverage and service into the evening. Last call will be at 9:00pm and the pool will close promptly at 9:30pm.

IN THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY

One of the greatest rewards of life at Cordillera Ranch is the daily opportunity to witness an incredible diversity of wildlife. Texas is second only to California in terms of biodiversity, and our corner of the Hill Country is a prime example of this ecological richness. From the dense oak thickets to the limestone canyons of the Guadalupe River valley, the Ranch is bursting with wildlife of every conceivable shape and size.

The Texas Hill Country is home to a unique mix of native and non-native species. The history of the area includes portions of land that were high-fenced for decades to manage large game and introduce exotic species. Since the 1950s, when ranchers first introduced exotics as a source of revenue and a draw for hunters, these animals have found their niche. Today, there are 51 exotic species in Texas, and many have established thriving, freeroaming populations that make a drive through the Ranch feel like a global safari.

THE MOST COMMON FREE-ROAMING EXOTICS

In and around Cordillera Ranch, you are most likely to encounter these distinct species from across the globe:

• Axis Deer: Native to India, these are the most recognizable exotics with their bright orange coats and permanent white spots. They are larger and more vocal than our native whitetail, and arguably the most desirable wild game for the grill.

• Blackbuck Antelope: These "speed demons" from India and Nepal feature striking jet-black and white coats on mature males, topped with long, spiraling horns.

• Fallow Deer: Hailing from Europe and Asia Minor, they are famous for their unique, palmated (moose-like) antlers and coats that range from white to chocolate brown.

• Aoudad (Barbary Sheep): These rugged, sand-colored climbers from North Africa frequent the steeper, rocky ledges and elevated terrains of the Ranch.

• Sika Deer: These Asian deer are smaller and more reclusive, known for their sharp, whistling alarm calls. Connecting with the wilderness brings a sense of harmony to our lives. As Sylvia Dolson wrote in Joy of Bears, "Embracing this state of connectedness... brings a sense of harmony and enables us to be at peace."

Technology has made this connection easier than ever. Through the Cordillera Ranch Wildlife Management Plan (WMP), a network of cellular and Wi-Fi trail cameras monitors the Ranch in real time. This system allows us to observe not only the exotics but also our native residents: whitetail deer, grey fox, bobcat, turkey and the elusive mountain lion — a stealthy animal I’ve only spotted a few times near the west end of the Ranch by the Gun Club and Spring Creek.

To catch a glimpse of these magnificent animals, keep these tips in mind:

• The Golden Hours: Dawn and dusk are the best times for viewing as animals move from the thick brush to open clearings to graze.

• Focus on the West End: Sightings are particularly frequent near Spring Creek where the terrain is more rugged.

• Practice Stewardship: While exotics are beautiful, they compete with native wildlife for resources. Healthy populations of both native and nonnative species are the hallmark of a functioning ecosystem and responsible land stewardship.

CELEBRATING TWO DECADES OF COMMUNITY AND CLUB EXCELLENCE

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch was something our team did not take lightly. We wanted to create an event worthy of honoring a Club we all love and call home — something the owners would be proud of and members would remember for years to come.

The C-Star Member-Guest Golf Tournament has always been an incredible showcase of the Club and Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, giving our team the opportunity to show all that we can do. This year, as we marked our 20th anniversary, we wanted to pair that incredible C-Star tradition with a celebration for the entire Club so all members could participate in this milestone together.

Our team loves to get creative and think outside the box. We kept asking ourselves, “What will our members remember and talk about for years to come?” and “What can we do that ties in so many of the traditions of the Club while showcasing multiple areas of the property and allowing us to host as many members as possible?”

We began with the Axis Poolside experience. We wanted it to feel lively, unique and unforgettable. Guests enjoyed an ice bar featuring one of our top-selling tequilas, Código, along with a custom ice sculpture displaying our 20th anniversary logo for the raw seafood bar. The Royal Dukes kept the dance floor packed all night long, bringing incredible energy to the evening. We were also thrilled to have King Ranch join us to showcase their beautiful merchandise, which our members always love shopping.

As guests arrived at the Main Clubhouse, they were greeted with a complimentary glass of Champagne and the opportunity to shop Grand Central’s custom hats and boots. We also featured an incredible tiered grill at the entrance, where guests could enjoy brisket, ribs and other delicious meats hot off the fire as they arrived.

Inside the Clubhouse, the Bob Boyd Band set the tone while guests enjoyed a variety of food stations and shopping experiences. One of the highlights of the evening was the pasta action station, which featured a full Parmesan wheel where pasta was tossed to order before guests selected their toppings. We also had a beautiful dessert display and an outstanding collection of vendors for members to enjoy, including Lamborghini with a simulator experience, Taylor and Tessier showcasing their beautiful jewelry line from Colorado, Casey Halderman with his custom leather goods, and Upland & Bespoke featuring their beautiful clothing line and more. Another standout was the smoked whiskey station, which also featured a vendor showcasing furniture and décor crafted from whiskey barrels.

The highlight of the night was the surprise drone show. This beautiful presentation celebrated all of the Club’s exceptional amenities — from the Equestrian and River Club to Racquet and Golf — while honoring 20 years of Cordillera Ranch and ending with our iconic C-Star logo. Despite the weather, the night could not have been more incredible.

We will forever cherish the time we had commemorating this remarkable Club. We also want to take a moment to recognize two men who have been here from the very beginning: Marc DeWall, our General Manager, who originally started as Director of Golf, and Shane Reynolds, our Director of Outdoor Recreation. Both have played a tremendous role in shaping the Club into what it is today, and we are so thankful for their leadership and support.

Last year closed on a high note for Cordillera Cares, marked by meaningful partnerships, expanded outreach and a growing sense of momentum in our mission.

The Kendall County Blue Santa program has been a cornerstone of compassion and generosity in our community for more than 30 years, and this year was no exception. Thanks to their incredible dedication, the Blue Santa program was able to support over 700 families across Kendall County, including families currently receiving care through several local assistance shelters.

Through Cordillera Cares, the charitable division of Cordillera Ranch, we were absolutely thrilled to partner with Blue Santa for the third year in a row to help make this season brighter. Together, we provided festive stockings filled with age-appropriate toys, books and family games — small gifts that carried a whole lot of joy. Watching our volunteers load cars with these donations was truly moving; you could see the relief, gratitude and excitement on families’ faces in those moments.

Because of your generosity and the time you so willingly gave, we were able to come alongside these families during a season that can be especially difficult and help create meaningful moments of hope and happiness. Your support helped bring a little extra Christmas magic into hundreds of homes, reminding families that they are seen, valued and cared for. Thank you for being such an important part of this mission and for helping us continue a tradition of giving that makes a lasting impact in our community.

Cordillera Cares’ philanthropies for 2026 are Kinetic Kids, Transformation House, and Cultivar Farms. We look forward to positively impacting these organizations this year.

We were excited to welcome Kinetic Kids on Sunday, April 26, for a special golf clinic designed to be both fun and approachable. Our professional golf

staff was on hand to guide participants through fundamentals, offer personalized tips and create an encouraging learning environment. The clinic took place at our Practice Park, giving everyone plenty of space to learn, practice and enjoy the game together.

Later this year, we’ll continue that momentum with a clothing drive benefiting Transformation House, followed by another round of mulch support for Cultivar Farms to help sustain their growing season. And to close out the year, we’ll once again join the Kendall County Blue Santa program — marking our fourth year of contributing to this meaningful community tradition.

BOERNE ISD'S STATE OF THE DISTRICT: SHINING BRIGHTER THAN EVER BEFORE

Each spring, the Greater Boerne Area Chamber of Commerce hosts the “State of the District” luncheon. For the past three years, Dr. Kristin Craft, Superintendent of Boerne ISD, has delivered the address and updated local business owners, taxpayers and families on the district’s progress.

This year, over 350 attendees celebrated the District’s Teachers of the Year and Support Staff of the Year, as well as the progress the district’s made to continue being on the cutting edge of public education in Texas.

Students from the district's culinary and floral pathways worked with Smoke on the Water to cater and serve at the event and provide decor. Members of various choirs and bands from around the district also provided entertainment before and during the event.

Each of the district’s 14 campuses nominates their own standout staff. Ford of Boerne is an incredible partner to the district and the Chamber of Commerce, and presents each of the award winners with gifts at the event.

Since joining the district three years ago, Dr. Craft has often spoken about how the culture in Boerne shapes our community. Principals and staff helped to create a set of tenets that help explain “The Boerne Advantage,” or what makes Boerne so special. Dr. Craft shared these tenets at the luncheon, and also launched the district’s new digital magazine, Constellations, where stories highlighting the unique aspects of our region, district and culture were shared from each campus.

PROTECTING OUR FOUR-LEGGED FAMILY MEMBERS LOST AND FOUND:

Few situations stir more concern than seeing a dog or cat wandering alone along the roads of Cordillera Ranch. For many residents, pets are not just companions — they are cherished members of the family. Even the most careful owner can experience that anxious moment when a beloved animal slips out of an open door or darts after wildlife. In those moments, identification can make all the difference between a quick reunion and a prolonged, stressful search.

The Cordillera Ranch Property Owners Association strongly encourages all residents to ensure their pets wear collars with identification tags at all times. A tag with the owner’s name and current phone number remains the fastest and most reliable way for neighbors or staff to contact you if your pet is found. Visible identification can shorten the time a pet is away from home, and spare both the owner and the animal unnecessary distress.

However, collars and tags can sometimes slip off or become unreadable. That is why microchipping a pet is an equally important safeguard. Microchips provide a permanent means of identification that cannot be easily lost or removed, and are invaluable in verifying ownership and reuniting pets with their families.

It is important to note that a microchip is only as effective as the information associated with it. The POA staff often encounters microchipped pets with outdated or incomplete records, making it impossible to reach the rightful owner even when the chip is located. Updating a pet’s registration information — such as current phone numbers, addresses and email contacts — ensures that this tool functions as intended when it matters most.

The good news is that maintaining accurate information is simple. Most microchip companies offer online portals where owners can verify and update their contact

information. A good practice is to review these details annually, perhaps at the same time as a pet’s veterinary check-up or vaccination appointment. Adding a secondary contact is also recommended, providing another layer of assurance if the owner is traveling or temporarily unavailable.

To support residents in these efforts, the Cordillera Ranch POA maintains a microchip scanner. When a lost pet is found within the community, staff can quickly determine whether the animal is chipped and attempt to contact the registered owner. This process is swift, efficient and has resulted in many reunions — when the registration details are current.

Property owners can also support these efforts by uploading photos and important details about their pets into EntranceIQ. Having current photos, descriptions and identifying information readily available can help POA staff respond more quickly and accurately when assisting with a lost pet report or attempting to identify an animal found in the community.

If a stray animal is spotted within Cordillera Ranch, residents are encouraged to contact the POA office with a description and location. Staff can then work to identify the pet and coordinate with local animal services if needed. Likewise, if a pet goes missing, notifying the POA immediately allows staff to assist in outreach efforts and scanning procedures.

Cordillera Ranch has long been known for its sense of neighborly connection and care, extending not only to residents but also to the animals that enrich the community. By keeping collars and tags on pets, ensuring that microchip records remain accurate, and maintaining pet information in EntranceIQ, residents can collectively increase the likelihood of a fast and happy reunion should a pet become lost.

Protecting four-legged family members requires only a few small, proactive steps, but those steps can make a tremendous difference in ensuring their safety and swift return home.
