Country shows bring tradition, thrills and community together BY SARAH JANE SCOTT LOCAL agricultural shows offer an exciting blend of tradition, community and celebration – from the Mary Valley Show & Rodeo to the Noosa Show and the Kenilworth Show and Rodeo. These events showcase the beating heart of Queensland’s farming and rural communities. Across the Mary Valley, Noosa hinterland and Kenilworth, this year’s agricultural shows promise to deliver plenty of opportunities to celebrate rural life, local talent and community spirit.
The Mary Valley Show, running from Friday 4 September to Saturday 5 September at the Mary Valley Showgrounds in Imbil, will combine music, food, exhibitions, competitions and entertainment. Established in 1919, the show has a long connection with the local community and features horse riding events, showjumping, woodchopping, local produce, arts and crafts and plenty of family entertainment. Friday begins at 3pm with the Imbil Bull Bronc Barrels, followed by live music from Hannah Rose. Saturday starts at 8am, with the NRA
Super All Round Rodeo getting underway at 10am. Fireworks at 8pm on Saturday will be followed by music from Graeme Jensen’s band. Camping is available at the showgrounds for those wanting to make a weekend of it. Children can get up close to animals at the animal farm, watch reptile shows and meet boutique highland cows, while Professor Wallace’s Puppets, Goldie the Clown and Fabulous Lemon Drops Children’s Entertainment will provide plenty of family fun. For those looking for something more active, the show will feature a rock-climbing wall, mechanical bull and Next Gen Mobile Archery.
