Council candidates meet with Cooroy community BY ALEX PURCELL THIS year’s Noosa Council candidates have met with the Cooroy community ahead of the March 16 election. Four mayoral candidates and 13 councillor candidates had the opportunity to deliver a three-minute presentation to more than 100 people at the Cooroy Memorial Hall last Thursday night. The Meet the Candidates event was organised and hosted by the Cooroy Cham-
ber of Commerce. Cooroy Chamber of Commerce president Sirah Robb said they were thrilled with the outcome.
“It was a great opportunity for our community to hear what each candidate stands for, their qualifications for the role and how they intend to make Cooroy and the hinterland a priority on their agenda.”
Mayoral candidates John Morral, Ingrid Jackson, Frank Wilkie and Nick Hluszko were the first to speak, followed by councillor candidates Mathieu Bankes, Chris Darwen, Karen Finzell, Fiona Jacobs, Joe Jurisevic, Amelia Lorrentson, Leigh McCready, Andrea Newland, Michelle Ngatai-Stokes, Alecia Staines, Brian Stockwell, Tom Wegener and Nicola Wilson. Speaking slots were drawn on the spot to ensure impartiality and equal opportunity for all candidates.
A timer was used to ensure that each speaker adhered to the three-minute time limit. Each candidate's speech was followed by questions from the floor.
