FROM THE DIRECTORS Unfortunately, COVID-19 lockdowns across the country are still causing uncertainty and challenges for business. Victoria joins New South Wales in an extended lockdown, with ACT, South Australia and Queensland all under restrictions as well. Despite this, building and construction across Australia largely remain open for business. What has emerged through this pandemic is the critical role that plumbing plays in prevention and detection of the virus. The recent Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo was probably the best motivation and comradery the world needed to unite once again and celebrate the world’s best sporting talent. The hard work, dedication and passion that was blasted through our screens was inspirational and showed a united nation, of course cheering on Australia for those medals naturally led Australians to bond. The ultimate worldwide event was achieved through a shared focus – the pandemic was dealt with by preplanning, but the ultimate goal was to hold this event successfully. One of the highlights was that of the men’s basketball and the determination of getting a medal. Was it the ultimate motivation for Patty Mills from carrying the flag to do such an amazing job?
The acceptance, the behaviour and values of this event are what Social Procurement aims to achieve which each of us individually and as a business can strive towards a better environment for all. 3 Key goals;
The breakdown of achieving these are set within 10 key objectives and which selected ones are becoming part of every tender. Collectively as a company we are already aware and actively achieving these on some level, but targets are being set for tender wins and by ensuring CDPG collect, record and share with each other how to achieve these. This will ensure we are better contributing to our society. Further training material will be supplied along with the tools to help explain, manage and record our Social Procurement goals.
NATIONAL OPERATIONS MANAGER We wish to welcome Matt Camm who recently joined CDPG in the newly created role of National Operations Manager. Matt will be overseeing construction operations, project management, purchasing and procurement nationwide. Matt joins our team with over 30 years’ experience in the plumbing and construction industry and has a strong history with the Group, having started his apprenticeship in 1989 under the guidance of both Scott and Chadd’s fathers. Matt has a diverse range of project knowledge, having worked on many tier 1 projects throughout Australasia. He will be responsible for providing direction and achieving strategic business objectives within budget and in accordance with our QA and WHSEQ requirements.
• Promote social value which will help local communities recover from COVID-19, tackle economic inequality, promote equal opportunities, and improve wellbeing. • Take strides towards our 2050 net zero commitment and focus on a whole life carbon approach to fight climate change and deliver greener facilities designed for the future. • Improve building and workplace safety to ensure that we are creating safe facilities and protecting our workforces.

TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT Total Quality Management (TQM) is a business philosophy that champions the idea that the long-term success of a company comes from customer satisfaction and loyalty. TQM requires that all stakeholders in a business work together to improve processes, products, services and the culture of the organisation itself. For a long time now, CDPG has prided itself in being a leader in the industry by delivering the best operational outcomes for our customers. We maintain an ISO certification – audited annually - which tests our compliance against defined operational processes. But TQM is much more than that. It embraces the concept of continuous improvement of all internal practices by reviewing what worked well (and what didn’t), challenging why we do things the way that we do, and pushing the boundaries of innovation. To achieve that we need to look beyond just our operational processes, and embrace the concept across every corner of our business. That means we need to define processes and adopt that same continuous improvement philosophy in supporting our people, in our technical functions (Design and Estimating), and in our back of house administration systems. With this in mind, at the start of the year the Directors embarked on a four-pronged strategy: 1) Supporting our People In March we appointed Jo Bomm to the role of People & Culture Manager. This full-time appointment recognises that people are our most important asset. Jo has been tasked with implementing quality that begins with our onboarding process, supports career development and, when people do choose to move on, they do so feeling rewarded by their experience at CDPG.
2) Embracing Technology Project Neptune was launched in February of this year to manage the digital transformation of our business. From October 2021 we begin the progressive rollout of new IT systems which incorporate the field-based dissemination and collection of information, a new project management tool for Project Managers and a new finance system – all of which will support the industry-leading operational delivery that is core to our business values. This is a two-year project that will truly transform the way we do business! 3) Change Management Recognising that change in itself consumes resource, we have invested in a new role of Change Analyst to support the business through this significant period of change and growth. The new role is centred around helping to develop, document and train “whole of business” quality processes and in particular the Project Neptune rollout. Welcome aboard Selene Stringer we look forward to working with you. 4) Leadership Development Last, but by no means least, we recognise that the development of our current and future business leaders is paramount to our continued success. The leadership programme that began in 2019 but was put on hold at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, is kicking back into gear from late this year and will include a mix of training, education and skill development. We recognise that our business does not stop because of a virus, so nor should the development of our leaders – even if that means adopting video technology as the new norm for meeting as a team. The next 12 months will see a stepped change in our business as we raise the bar for our competitors and our industry. I look forward to bringing you updates along the journey!

PEOPLE & CULTURE UPDATE CDPG WELLBEING The construction industry experiences significantly higher rates of suicide and mental health issues amongst our workers when compared to the general population. Employee engagement continues to be at the forefront of our business objectives. Coming out of the ongoing impact of COVID-19, we are increasing our metal health and wellbeing support, including the recent roll out of the CDPG Employee Assistance Program (EAP) CDPG WELLBEING. Our EAP is provided to all CDPG employees and their immediate family and provides confidential short-term counselling, referrals and training programs. The official launch was held on 13 May 2021 at the CDPG Victorian Head Office and joined virtually by employees from all around the country and New Zealand! Facilitated by our very own Scott Dowsett, Scott was joined by Incolink’s Executive General Manager, Ashleigh Connolly and Counsellor and Support Worker, Brendan O’Dowd. Brendan’s presentation provided some powerful insights into what is mental health, how to manage your mental wellbeing and tips to looking after yourself and your mates. CDPG CULTURAL AWARENESS EVENT Whilst this event was postponed in July, we will be rescheduling until later in the year. This event partnering with Pathway Plumbing Service will include presentations on cultural sensitivities, supporting Indigenous employees and discuss the evolution of CDPG’s Indigenous Participation Plan, Social Procurement Policy and Employee Assistance Program.

For those who are not aware Kaelan Brown (Director Pathway Plumbing Service) is an exemplary role model to the Aboriginal community. Kaelun is part of The Koori Youth Will Shake Spears Aboriginal Dance Group which was formed in 1988. The Spears have over 200 active dancers and perform Aboriginal dances in the traditional costume of lap laps, possum skin belts and use ochre to mark their bodies with the traditional designs of their clan groups. The group perform at various events and are working with numerous builders under the guidance from the CFMEU, PTEU and ETU unions to start doing a welcome to country, smoking ceremonies and dance performance on new construction sites.

Bluehats is a suicide prevention program that helps workers who are doing it tough by providing someone to talk to. In the coming months, we will be asking for employees to put their hand up to become a part of the Bluehat / CDPG training program. The program involves a mental health and suicide prevention session, a 1 on 1 induction session with an Incolink counsellor, a brief study requirement and a detailed training session. Hi Everyone! I’ve been working for Project Plumbing for 10 weeks now thought it’d be great to let you all know a little about myself……
I know lots of useless words that are good for scrabble
Before joining PPM, I worked at the Woolworths Distribution Centre in Campbellfield. I was in the Maintenance Department for 14 years before Woollies decommissioned the site to build a bigger and better DC in the South Eastern suburbs.
In my free time you can find me somewhere outside with my little one when its warm.
In my free time I…. wait - free time? Unless you call driving to/from work ‘free time’, it doesn’t exist with my “Brady Bunch” family! I have 2 kids (9-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son), as well as 3 step sons (15, 13 and 10), so life can be quite hectic at times! Between my partner running his own business, and running the kids around to Footy, Basketball, Swimming, Gymnastics and Soccer; I’d be lucky to get 30 minutes to myself! Throw 2 dogs into the mix and my 30 mins of “me time” is walking the dogs, haha. Wouldn’t swap it for anything tho! On the rare occasion where I have a quiet house, I enjoy watching a good action or horror movie, watching documentaries, or anything to do with the Paranormal. Useless facts about me…… I love true crime, motorbikes, and hunting. I couldn’t do without chocolate and wine…. lots of wine (5 kids remember!), and love watching the Mighty Magpies (well…. maybe not as much this year!) Umm…..what else? I know how to play the violin… nah just kidding – the kids make enough noise without bringing any instruments into the house! I do enjoy getting out on the bike with the kids, playing netball, and just joking around in general (life is too short not to have fun!)

Miguel Becerra Design Manager (Cooke & Dowsett - VIC) I was born and raised in Peru, but eventually decided that I wanted more opportunities for my family and my career. My sense of adventure saw start a new life in Australia. It was a difficult transition however I wanted to make something of myself and make my family proud. I became interested in engineering through my father who was a great role model and ended up following his footsteps. I enjoy having fun, salsa dancing and Latin music. I usually play soccer with my friend every Thursday night and enjoy tennis on the weekends. I also enjoy spending time with my wife and 3 kids.

Work Place Health & Safety is a 24/7 subject. The boys at “The Vic Clinic” project performed a water tapping into the small hours of the morning The original underground pipework was installed over 100 years ago and surprisingly was in great condition!
It’s funny in our September 2020 newsletter, we spoke about the year that we had bush fires, earth quakes, floods & COVID-19. Twelve months on the fires have been put out, the water has subsided, the earth has repaired but we haven’t been able to shake COVID-19. This virus is the country’s number one risk when it comes to Health and Safety of ourselves, our work mates and our family and friends. CDPG like many Australians have had to deal with varying lock down restrictions, COVID-19 outbreaks, border closures and adapt to the conditions, zoom meetings, social distancing and how could I forget the trusty old face mask. To date the CDPG extended family remain COVID-19 free, however we all need to remain diligent by maintaining good hygiene, social distancing and continue to follow government guidelines, if you have any symptoms, please notify the COVID-19 response team and get tested.

Both Mick and Matthew have been coordinating deep excavation works at the McKellar Centre in Geelong reinforcing CDPG’s safety first principles.

The Victorian team have remained busy during the past 4 months working through a difficult and uncertain COVID-19 environment. We have had a number of projects finish, and have successfully secured the following great projects; Sunshine Private Hospital with Built, The Portarlington Hotel Refurbishment with ARC, the upgrade works to the Cootamundra Abattoir in NSW with AMG that will be delivered by CDA, The Queenscliff Ferry Terminal with Kane, Melbourne Quarter Tower and two Pathway 144 Mental Health Facilities early works packages both with Lendlease. The Pathway projects are in response to the Victorian Government urgently actioning the recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System, with a $492 million investment to deliver 144 new acute public mental health beds. The project will increase capacity, reduce pressure on emergency departments, and provide additional support for people experiencing mental illness who require immediate treatment in a contemporary, safe and high-quality setting.
We have experienced personnel changes within our Geelong team, as we welcome both Darko Trupkovic (Project Manager) & Ryan Biddle (Project Administrator) to the local team, both are meeting the demands and supporting the current team in delivering multiple projects. This growth has also resulted in a number of new site managers and plumbers being employed to assist in delivering these projects.
We are expecting a number of successful project announcements over the coming weeks, as we establish a solid pipeline of secured work over the next 12-24 months. We are still concentrating on our key markets such as health, commercial, defence and infrastructure. The team continues to focus on client engagement, building and developing strong relationships to better position ourselves in the tendering market, as we also look for opportunities where we are working directly with the builder or developer.

The design team continue to provide inhouse engineering and design capabilities, with a number of new projects being delivered internally. Ahmad Zaglout has joined the team and is currently working on the Pathway Plumbing projects providing various engineering solutions.

With recent changes to our estimating team personnel, we are being very selective with the type of projects that we are chasing. The estimators are very busy as we source additional estimators to meet the demand nationally. I would like to thank all of you for your continued commitment and support to the business, as we continually look to win and deliver successful projects over the final months of the year. We are now over the half way mark of delivering this iconic project with Watpac. The Civic Precinct will allow the Geelong City Council to consolidate seven offices into one new purpose-built energy efficient building. Sustainability is a major feature of the project which has a 6 Star Green Building Council Australia rating, the highest possible, and also must achieve its green credentials through energy, waste and water efficiencies, rooftop solar and the use of manufactured cross laminated timber for the structure.

QUEEN & COLLINS OFFICE REDEVELOPMENT & REFURBISHMENT We have successfully completed the refurbishment of Queen & Collins in Melbourne. I would like to thank Ben Vennell, Stephanie Hobbins & the C&D site team for all their efforts working on this project. The team worked on 5 different work fronts on this 34-story building over multiple levels at one time whilst also completing the 380 & 90 Collins Street heritage building upgrades. The CDPG CSL Hawara Team
CDPG employees took advantage of the COVID-19 pop up vaccination clinic recently set up on site at CSL Hawara.
CSL “HAWARA” We have made a solid start on the CSL Hawara project working closely with the Probuild team. This development will accommodate more than 800 CSL employees , housing early-stage research and product development teams, commercial operations, corporate functions and support services. The building will include seven floors of office work spaces and nine floors of laboratories, research and clinical phase production suites.

Artists Image - Queens Wharf Star Grand Hotel Hello to everyone in the CDPG family. Since our last newsletter I am pleased to announce that we have been awarded two new projects. The first being Stage 2 at the Inner-City Secondary College for Hutchison Builders, which comprises of a sports centre, specialist teaching building and a link bridge between Stages 1 and 2. Essentially it is the same Hutchies team that we successfully delivered stage 1 with and our management team of Chris Mutimer (Project Manager) and Zayne Eyres (Site Manager) will gear up again to deliver the Stage 2 works. At the time of writing this newsletter we have made a start on this project and completed a small amount of inground work. We will be off site for a little while for the precast panels to get installed along with the specialist bridge beams. The second project we have been successful in securing is Stage 2 and 3 of the mighty Star Grand Casino project for Multiplex Builders. The (5 star) Star Grand Hotel consists of 340 Hotel Rooms in buildings IT2 & IT3 from Level 8 to 18, with VIP Gaming, Restaurants and Bars located above, and then above again is the Skydeck which is the link between all buildings. To put the size of the build into perspective, we will be 1 of 3 plumbers that will help deliver the hydraulics packages across this massive project. Travis Richards is the lucky man charged with the Project Management responsibility for this project, don’t stress Trav in true CDPG style you will have all of our support!! I am happy to say that 443 Queen Street has finally topped out at Level 47 after 4 long years! and the jump form system is slowly getting dismantled. We have 1 level of stacks to complete and have 5 levels of rough in to finish on the up cycle and 4 levels of rough in to complete on the down cycle. As mentioned in previous newsletters this job has had some serious challenges along the way, the most recent one being the limited number of site personal we can get into a hoist due to our ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. There are currently 320 workers on site and only 3 hoists with a capacity of 6 people allowed in each, trying to navigate up and down 47 floors and also distribute materials throughout the job is proving challenging. There is only 1 tower crane on the job which is tied up pulling down the jump for the next 2 months. Across the river at the Queensland Performing Arts Centres New Performing Arts Venue, we are slowly starting to get some traction, we have finally been able to finish our groundwork components and with the ground floor construction slab recently poured, we are gearing up to start some basement underslung drainage.

Down the highway heading south, the Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre (PICAC) development is starting to hit full swing for us after some challenging design issues. We have completed in grounds, 90 % of fire services, amenity block rough ins are complete and are about to hit above ground services. As mentioned in the previous newsletter the labour on this job must have a high apprentice output, which is certainly keeping Brett on his toes! with 3 and a half months to go before hand over, this job is going full steam ahead!! Over at Tulloch House on the Eagle Farm Racecourse, the crew is fitting off Level 5 with 2 more floors to go before practical completion in mid-September. Up north in Cairns, Luke and his team have completed the refurb component of the Cairns Convention Centre project and are now onto the new expansion side component working on inground sewer and stormwater services. Let’s hope we don’t see any more cyclones before this job ends!! In May we welcomed Beth Farry to the Qld team, who to her credit has taken about “2 minutes” to own her role your efforts are very much appreciated Beth. Andrew Thompson has been nominated for the MPAQ apprentice of the year award, unfortunately due to the COVID-19 lockdown the awards have been postponed until October, we wish him all the best -we will just have to wait a little longer to find out Thommo! Design concept for Buronga HealthOne The past few months have been rather quiet up here in the bush, current projects are ticking along nicely which include Lutheran Aged Care Facility Albury, Cathedral College Wangaratta, Young High School, Bateman’s Bay Aquatic, Arts & Leisure Centre, Kapooka Army Base Refurbishment along with a number of small projects throughout the region.
Firstly, a big shout out to the guys who have been traveling to our remote projects (Batemans Bay, Young High School & Kapooka Army Base) Tim Carberry, Paddy Obrien, Josh Ferella, Rhys Palmer, Jimmy Obrien and the loyal team of sub-contractors that we have in our crews that continue to put in a massive effort with manning our remote projects which assists me greatly.
The impacts of the current COVID-19 restrictions in regional Victoria and now regional NSW are presenting some challenges with Cooke & Dowsett Albury (CDA) having employees that live and work across both states. To their credit the whole team has been very understanding of the challenges this poses.
Batemans Bay- Site Manager Tim Carberry is doing a stella job meeting program and keeping a good client relationship with ADCO. Our 2nd Year Apprentice Jimmy Obrien has been full time in Batemans Bay for the last 6 weeks due to COVID-19 restrictions and loving it.
We have been successful in winning a new Health Project with Barpa at Buronga NSW which we will be partnering with NUDJ Plumbing Services, Paul Harrington will be looking after this one with Nathan Strang taking on his first Site Managers role. Nathan started his apprenticeship with CDA and has proven he is very capable to progress in to this Site Management role, well done Stranger. Thanks to Matt Howe’s estimating prowess, CDA will be delivering the new Mainfreight Distribution Centre in Regent Park, Adelaide for H. Troon, a long term CDPG client. Paul “Hollywood” Harrington will be the Project Manager on this one also. Estimating is constant and there are some good projects about, we are confident that we can land a few exciting projects in the near future. Three CDA plumbers headed down to Tasmania for a few weeks to assist Rob, Andy and the crew which I believe was really beneficial for both CDR and the Albury boys. Rhett O’Connor who worked for CDA on the Dubbo Hospital project has relocated over to the West with Jeff and his crew, this is another great outcome for our staff being able to work within the group but in different locations and again invaluable experience which we all benefit from in long term, good luck Rhett. We are coming out of what has been quite a wet winter and can’t wait for the fantastic spring weather we experience up here. Young High School – Newly promoted Site Manager Paddy Obrien and his crew are pushing out some great work with completing a large sector of in-ground services which has been a challenge due to the existing services throughout. Rough-in on Building EE has been completed and awaiting fit off - the guys are looking forward to getting out of the mud. Kapooka Army Base Refurbishment – As refurbishments are always a challenge Paddy Obrien, Rhys Palmer and the crew have grabbed the challenge and ran with it pushing out some high-quality work with new Sub Drains and HL Copper Main, CDA commenced this project with a new client APGC and to date the team are working well hopefully paving the way for potential future work. Project Duet – CDA were engaged to complete HL large bore suspended drainage capturing all roof water that will be re-used back through the recycle plant this one was through Joss Constructions and was a great gap filler between projects hats off to all involved. This hotel and office space located at the old Emu Brewery site on the Swan River forms part of the Capital Square Hub on the Western side of Perth’s CBD. Ethan Minns Fitting Off Fixtures at Carnarvon Aged Care
Congratulations to Dane Sara and the team for completing the Carnarvon Aged Care project with just the final fit off and commissioning left to do. The expected practical completion date is 25/08/2021. As part of this project, we have installed a water monitoring system that delivers live data on flow, pressure and temperature which provides quick diagnostics of any faults to the facility management. The first stage of the Hames Sharley Office Fit out has completed. Congratulations to Mark Fitzgerald and his team who have been working hard to complete the offices located in the center of the city. This building comprises of a facility with a strong emphasis on occupant engagement, featuring facilities that will enhance staff interactions and occupation. The redevelopment has transformed the existing building into a state-of-the-art facility for the new tenants.
The Murdoch-61 Fifty health and knowledge precinct located adjacent to two of WA’s largest tertiary hospitals forms the first stage of the larger Murdoch Activity Centre, identified as a strategic priority by the State Government. We are currently working with Multiplex to deliver this thriving community consisting of residences, office workers, medical specialists and patients. Currently we are working on the below ground stormwater, sewer and trade waste to Lot 1A, 2A and 2B. Our onsite team consists of Mark Michelutti, Mark Davies, William Kupper, Simon Howarth and Chris Wladyka. This project is expected to be completed in March 2023.

Pacifica Apartments
Congratulations to client Icon who have celebrated numerous awards for the recently completed Pacifica apartments located in the heart of Auckland, New Zealand. Not content with being the tallest and newest residential apartment tower in Auckland the Pacifica has recently been awarded the Best Residential High Rise Development New Zealand together with The Best Apartment/ Condominium New Zealand by the International Property Awards. CDPG are looking forward to partnering with Icon again on the prestigious Indigo Hotel & Residences also located in Auckland’s CBD. The Hotel which is working with a retained heritage façade and small building footprint which is sure to present some construction challenges. I have been working on the site and the hydraulic design component of the high-profile project. Once completed the building will consist of 225 guest rooms and 13 floors of luxury apartments.
On a personal note I wish to thank both Chadd and Scott for giving me the chance to come over here and take on two of my biggest projects (Bunnings Westgate/Pacifica) personally, but also in Auckland and New Zealand in their respective spaces. There are a lot of exciting opportunities ahead for 2021 and beyond for CDNZ, standby for more exciting news. Speaking of exciting news, Tom Hoult and his wife Sophie welcomed their first-born son William (Billy) Hoult. Congratulations on the new arrival guys. We are delighted to be partnering BMD Constructions on the Mitchell Freeway Extension Project and have completed plumbing and waste for three sites so far. We have recently entered into a National Maintenance Contract with Pratt Safety Systems specifically to maintain their safety showers. We had pleasure in hosting Laura Bell who completed three weeks work experience with TPAGG. Laura gained valuable experience in the plumbing industry and we look forward to her achieving her dream of becoming an apprentice plumber.

Coca Cola Amatil Works – New incoming water supply and stainless-steel trade waste drainage.
Project Plumbing & Maintenance (PPM) are excited to be undertaking their first construction project with builder McCormack Property Services - Coca Cola Amatil are the client. Once completed production will produce spring water for their Neverfail Spring Water customers in 15L & 11L returnable bottles. The project is being undertaken in an existing factory complex therefore PPM are constantly working closely with the builder and client to provide design and installation solutions to ensure program dates are achieved throughout the duration of works.Scope of works consists of;
PPM have recently invested in the latest CCTV and jetting equipment. The jetter has the capacity of 5000psi which will simply cut through a majority of obstruction in stormwater and sewer drains. The system has been customised and installed on a galvanised trailer with water storage to facilitate more remote locations. The CCTV camera will navigate through 50mm pipe and fittings and has already identified broken basin wastes in a major CBD Melbourne tower.

BSA are keeping the PPM maintenance team busy with multiple projects across the country from Port Hedland in WA to Dingley in VIC to FNQ. PPM have been especially busy across the North - West coast of Australia due to their recent amount of heavy rain and strong winds uplifting roofs and causing extensive flooding. A big thankyou to Rogan Coyles for helping to coordinate our contractors ensuring they get to site quickly to initially make safe also planning permanent rectification solutions ensuring minimal disruption to the operations of the facility.

PPM are becoming known as the turn key solution for facility managers providing maintenance solutions for all areas not just related to plumbing. PPM have relocated their operations to 25 Mc Gregor’s Drive in Keilor Park – just around the corner from their previous location however our contact details have remained the same. Rodney Smith General Manager Monash University Clean Room Project above - poly propylene pipes and fittings which are required to repel acid attack from the chemicals that will be used once the laboratory is in operation. The clean room is a controlled environment that typically excludes contaminants such as microbes, particles and vapours.

Pathway Plumbing Service (PPS) has been busy since the last newsletter with works at Docklands Studio, Chelsea Train Station, Metro Tunnel and Williamstown Rail Crossing removal early works. It’s been great to see the partnership developing on project sites and the team working alongside CDPG on several sites around Melbourne and Geelong.
The apprentices have been working on several sites with the direct supervision of the CDPG site managers and tradespeople and a big shout out to those guys finding the time to support the lads as this is a new space for them and it is patience and support that will help them to develop and grow their individual confidence’s.
The team is progressing well, and the apprentices have taken on their new careers with enthusiasm. Our tradesmen, Duane Wright, Jordan Cooke, Kaelun Brown, and Ricky Morris have been spread thin working across the sites however have been able to keep up with work schedules to date. Works at the Dockland Studio have proven to be challenging at times in particular the installation of stormwater pits and the SPELL unit with depths of over 3 meters not to mention the tidal waters impacting on the installation. The works at the Chelsea Train Station Rail Removal project has got off to a slow start with works centered around the civil and services redirection and some stormwater drains in the lift shaft. With several Occupations (OCO) taking place to date the site is now ready for the team to get stuck into some plumbing works and with a big OCO taking place at the end of August for seven weeks it is going to be a busy period keeping in front of the schedule set by the client.

Works commencing at St. Mary’s College in Broome
We have a number of projects that have been recently completed including the Broome Chinatown Revitalisation project which included the upgrade of infrastructure and installation of public water fountains in the Chinatown precinct. We are currently working on a number of interesting projects including the St Marys College in Broome. This project consists of new pre-primary building and ablutions at the coeducational Kindergarten-Year 12 Catholic School. Beagle Bay and Lombadina are two of three Aboriginal communities on the Dampier Peninsular 130 & 200km north of Broome, we are working with Kullarri Building to deliver new day use facilities at both of the indigenous communities.

It’s been a great experience working at the popular Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm located two hours north of Broome. This resort which includes a restaurant, accommodation and pearl boutique is being refurbished. We are assisting with the installation of new eco tents and new grey water treatment system. We are looking forward to working on the Wangkatjungka Maintenance – Water Wise Program which involves upgrades to 55 houses in an Indigenous community 500km East of Broome. NUDJ Plumbing would like to acknowledge the generous support of CGU towards our ambition to improve the lives of remote Indigenous communities by providing training and work opportunities to Indigenous youth. CGU’s contribution will be used to deliver occupational health and safety skills-based training. It’s through sponsorship such as this that we have been able to successfully train in excess of 50 Indigenous apprentices Lyle Maly-Murphy Pre laying drains at the St. Mary’s College Broome over the past 11 years. BLOOD DONATIONS Team Cooke & Dowsett Rosetta (CDR) are chipping away nicely into the new financial year with some impressive project wins in what currently presents as a buoyant building and construction market throughout Tasmania. Tasmania has been incredibly fortunate that the island state’s isolation from the mainland has to date kept it relatively COVID-19 free when compared to other states. Our thoughts and support goes out to all those suffering through continual lock downs and tough isolation periods.
The months of June and July were blood and plasma donation months where team CDR literally rolled up their sleeves to make very valuable and life-saving donations. In Australia over 1/3 of blood donations are used for cancer and other blood disease sufferers. Donating blood is an easy, straight forward, rewarding and relatively quick process, where vitally needed blood products are collected from healthy donors. Due to usage and limited storage periods of blood products, a constant supply is required at donation centres. A big thanks to everyone who partook in CDR’s first donation drive.
At a recent staff meeting where the team threw around some ideas of ways CDR could support those in need, my ongoing desire of having a ‘Company Tradie Calendar’ was quickly and decisively given the ‘thumbs down’. However, we managed to settle on a couple of initiatives giving assistance to some great causes.

SHORTS DAY 21st June was mental health charity ‘Speak Up Stay Chatty’ inaugural ‘Shorts Day’. Coinciding with the shortest day of the year the concept was formed around braving the cold and braving the conversation around mental health. We are well aware that too often people suffering mental health issues and depression will not speak up and seek professional help and assistance. It is also critically important for anyone and everyone who recognises changes in their colleagues’ behaviours to brave that conversation and to ask ‘Are you ok’. The concept is to brave getting outside ones’ comfort zone (as it is to wear shorts in the middle of winter) and to normalise the conversation to prioritise positive mental health. CDR were very proud to be a part of the first ever “Shorts Day”. At our Southern Remand Centre (SRC) project with Hansen Yuncken, Site Manager Aaron Warn and his team put on a superb spit roast worthy of a Michelin Star performance. Being assured it was nothing to do with keeping warm around the spit, there was certainly no shortage of chef volunteers to keep watch and prepare other items throughout the day.

CDR’S FORAY INTO LAUNCESTON Whilst CDR was born in Tasmania’s Southern and capital city of Hobart, it has long been a goal of the Management team to develop a sustainable business unit in the North of the state in Tasmania’s second largest city of Launceston. The first step in this process being to secure a key project upon the back of which we could build the team. After many attempts to achieve this goal, in June 2021 we finally made inroads and started our journey by securing our first Northern Tasmania project, the University of Tasmania’s River’s Edge Building with Fairbrother Constructions.

Below Ground Works - University of Tasmania’s River’s Edge Building
The Rivers Edge Building embarks on becoming a vibrant new academic building perched between the existing Architecture and Design building and the historic Inveresk Railway Workshops. The new Rivers Edge building will be strongly linked to the existing Architecture and Design building as well as the Stone Building both of which will also undergo their own renovations as well. Due to the soil composition of the Inveresk precinct which historically was a swampland, the structural detail of the Rivers Edge Building was quite extreme. For our plumbing, this meant in-ground drainage also had to be hung from the slab with stainless steel straps. Swivel joints also had to be installed as each line exited the footings. We are all very excited about the Rivers Edge project and the start of where our Northern Tasmania journey can take us. We are currently pricing some other terrific projects in Launceston and will keep everyone posted. Robert Pearshouse Director
