FROM THE DIRECTORS Another year has passed and yet again Cooke & Dowsett were contracted to deliver some of the most exciting projects on offer across Australia and New Zealand. We continue to evolve as a business and strive to be better than our peers, and we’re confident that we are achieving that - recognised through Cooke & Dowsett’s nomination and winning of a number of National Awards for which the Directors are truly proud. Much of our focus over the past year has been on diversification, and you will be aware of the successful launch of Project Plumbing & Maintenance (PPM), our expansion into Tasmania through Cooke & Dowsett – Rosetta Plumbing, and our continued growth in New Zealand. In the coming year we see an ongoing focus in this area which will provide future challenges and career opportunities for our people. It’s because of our desire to invest in our people that we’re constructing a new training room in Keilor Park and we’re in the process of developing a training programme for 2020. We are excited to announce that we have joined forces with a local Western Australian maintenance plumbing business, “The Plumbing & Gas Guys”. Another exciting announcement is to welcome and introduce Jeff Hagerty as Cooke & Dowsett’s newly appointed Western Australian State Manager.
Congratulations to the team involved in the recent Quality Assurance Accreditation (AS/NZS/ISO9001:2016) a fantastic benchmark for our management system requirements which we take pride in adhering to. It is EBA season again nationally, we are working with all stakeholders to negotiate a new agreement for 2020. Where this ends up is critically important for our industry. As employers we want to attract the best plumbers who are up to date with the latest technical skills and knowledge and to provide them with career paths which are rewarding and fulfilling. To do this, we need to run safe, productive and efficient businesses which are sustainable in the long-term. Ensuring we continue to have the ability to provide the industry with ongoing quality training and professional development opportunities must form part of this. Around the Traps Congratulations to Paul Harrington who has been selected to represent the Australian plumbing industry in the 2020 Community Plumbing Challenge in Untia Village, Makassar, Sulawesi – Indonesia. While many parts of the world enjoy clean water from modern sanitation technology and water systems provided by professional plumbers, many other parts remain trapped in a vicious circle of poor health and hygiene conditions due to the lack of effective water management expertise.
The Plumbing and Gas Guys goal is to provide Western Australia with high quality services at an affordable price. Our team of plumbers and gas fitters have grown over the years from one man and his van to a strong team of over 25 employees. Having a team this big allows us to service all areas of the Perth Metropolitan Area. A big Cooke & Dowsett welcome to Kevin Mc Keown who takes on the very important role of National WHSEQ Manager based in our Keilor Park Office – make sure you introduce yourself to Kevin who will be visiting all of our project sites and state offices. Welcome also to Project Administrators – Jackie Appleby (Cooke & Dowsett Rosetta) and Hannah Clarke based in our Albury Office. 1
The CPC aims to deliver small, smart and simple steps, that can go some way towards solving these bigger problems. The program aims to demonstrate the power of plumbing, engineering and design, showcasing the best young, international skilled talent and deliver real health benefits in threatened communities.

Paul will form part of an international team who will connect and contribute to CPC’s ultimate goal: to improve living conditions, public health and hygiene through hands-on implementation and community partnership. The project is to build and connect a toilet block for a village in Sulawesi, Indonesia. Paul headed to Indonesia for one week in November for the projects design phase and will head back in May 2020 for the construction phase. Australia’s involvement in the CPC is managed by International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) and the Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre (PICAC). We look forward to sharing Paul’s experiences in Indonesia. PICAC Narre Warren Inauguration Cooke & Dowsett were well presented at the PICAC Narre Warren Inauguration in September. The plumbing training facility is the first net zero education and research training facility for Victoria. Cooke & Dowsett were proud to be part of this innovative project and would like to thank all of our suppliers who donated materials for this project. Plumbing & Fire Industry Awards The 2019 Plumbing & Fire Industry Awards were held on the conclusion of the World Plumbing Conference at the Melbourne Convention Centre on Friday 13th September. Cooke & Dowsett were proud to receive the AHSCA Commercial Plumbing Affiliate of the Year Award sponsored by Enware. Fantastic industry recognition which was celebrated in style on the night.

World Plumbing Conference On Thursday 12th September Master Plumbers Australia and New Zealand (MPANZ) hosted the Women in Plumbing Session at the World Plumbing Conference. Key note speakers included Sue Eddy, Chief Executive Officer, Victorian Building Authority, Ainsley Middleton, Contract Manager, Kane Constructions and Cooke & Dowsett’s first year plumbing apprentice Jasmine Garner. Jasmine shared her story of how she came to be working in the construction industry and provided practical tips on how to engage more females in the industry. Jasmine who is an elite AFLW player is working on the new Victorian State Netball and Hockey Centre. More than half of the workforce overseeing the development of this project are women. Golf Day Central Plumbing & Hardware recently hosted their inaugural Golf Day held at the Northern Golf Course with over 70 suppliers and clients enjoying a day of networking as well as the occasional great shot. Congratulations to winning team Tony Godino, Jarred Godino Charlie Godino and Johnie Dom who left with the winner’s trophy.

Cooke & Dowsett – Proud to be providing career opportunities For nearly 3 decades Cooke & Dowsett has been providing more than just jobs. Dotted across the business are many examples of hard-working individuals who have successfully navigated the journey from Apprentice, to Site Manager, to Project Manager and in one case even State Manager. Our investment in training and mentoring had paid dividends for both Cooke & Dowsett and the individual alike, with the business benefiting from their long-standing experience and the individuals developing skills that will serve them well into the future. We’re also pleased to see career progression happening in the “back of house”. Nicola Bell has served us well in the role of Payroll Officer in the Finance Team since 2016 but has always held a desire to move into a more generalised finance role. The growth of the business has required us to create the new role of Accounts Assistant reporting through to Neil Moxon at our Melbourne Head Office. Nicola stuck her hand up and, while we’ll miss her skills in the payroll function, we’re pleased to support her transition and career in the direction that she wants. Nicola will change roles (progressively) early in the new year and will be undertaking a host of duties including month-end processing, reconciliation work, cashflow forecasting and invoicing to name just a few. These tasks are important to the smooth running of the business and we know that Nicola will excel in her new challenges. At the same time Nicola will be undertaking some external training with the ultimate aim of fulfilling her dream to one day become a Financial Controller. Advertising to back-fill Nicola in Payroll is under way. If you or anyone else you know has a background in Payroll and is looking for a challenging role in a successful and growing organisation then Neil would love to hear from you.

Growth is expected to continue through the remainder of this year and into 2020-21. Cooke & Dowsett have partnered with Lend Lease and the Consortium (Capella Capital, Lendlease and Spotless) to tender the New Footscray Hospital Project (Public, Private, Partnership) with tendering starting in Nov 2019 through to May 2020, with the preferred contractor announced in September 2020, for a construction start in December 2020 and completion in 2025. The Victorian Government has provided up to $1.5 billion to deliver a new Footscray Hospital – the largest health infrastructure investment in the state. The new Footscray Hospital is being delivered by the Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority, in partnership with Western Health, and is expected to open in 2025. Newmarket New Zealand Cooke & Dowsett recently helped in the successful delivery and completion of the new Westfield Newmarket Shopping Centre by Scentre Group Located in Auckland. Cooke & Dowsett’s Team lead by Travis Richards & Angus Hill landed in Auckland mid-June to assist in the delivery of the project.

The NZ$790 million redevelopment of the centre will create a world-class retail and lifestyle destination in the heart of Auckland. Incorporating multiple sites over four and half hectares, Westfield Newmarket will be home to Auckland’s first David Jones department store, a new format Farmers department store, a Countdown supermarket and more than 230 new specialty stores. Westfield Newmarket will showcase New Zealand’s best fashion, with a compelling mix of local and international designers, new-to-market brands and some of the most well-known retailers from New Zealand and Australia. A rooftop lifestyle, dining and entertainment precinct, integrating a new state-of-the-art Event Cinemas complex offering V-Max and Gold Class, will encompass some of the country’s finest food and beverage experiences in a vibrant outdoor environment, providing Newmarket’s local community and the wider Auckland population with an exceptional leisure and hospitality experience. A big thank you to Travis & Angus for their commitment to the project and successful delivery for the client Scentre Group. Industry Development A new registration/licence for thermostatic mixing valves (TMV) came into force in Victoria on 18 November. This requires practitioners to have undertaken recent training or otherwise prove their knowledge and experience to safely undertake this high-risk work. The changes result from the introduction of new plumbing regulations last year, but it’s fair to say the very late notification to practitioners of transition arrangements caused quite a bit of consternation in the plumbing community. It is disappointing, however, that our industry was not provided with clarity around transition arrangements until the last minute. VBA is undergoing overdue change in its culture and capability and we strongly support the work being done by its leadership team to make it a modern and more capable regulator. Let’s hope we don’t see a repeat of this unnecessary predicament in the future. Associations A congratulations goes out to Cooke & Dowsett Rosetta Plumbing Director Robert Pearshouse who was once again voted in as Chairman of Master Plumbers Australia and New Zealand Board. Scott Dowsett will be serving as his Deputy.

Due to the nature of the job being “Pro-Bono”, meaning professional services will be performed for the greater public good rather than pure profits; This project, when complete, will become the lodge for young aboriginal students who will be relocated from remote/regional aboriginal communities and will be transitioning into bigger schools in the city. Rod Smith Operations Manager The last quarter of the year has been hectic for project managers and their project administrators with multiple projects finishing and new projects starting. Rebecca has been busy with developing improved operational reports which have been well received by the project managers and their teams. In 2020 a new project meeting structure will be introduced to improve project work flows and provide constructive dialog and improved outcomes. The best of luck to Hannah Pangrazio who will be returning home to South Australia in the new year. Jewish Aged Care Solar Panels
JEWISH CARE VICTORIA – THE SENIOR LIVING AND COMMUNITY PRECINCT St Kilda Road, Melbourne Site Manager Matt Stark and his team have been progressing well on the Jewish Aged Care Victoria Project on St Kilda Road, Melbourne. With 156 residential units, relevant health care and medical services, the new nine-storey building also includes associated retail and commercial areas and basement car parking. The hydraulic components to the building are roughed-in and we are concentrating on our final level of fit-off. The commercial kitchen including E-Water plant and equipment is completed and we are now arranging the final gas inspection from ESV. The Rinnai solar hot water plant located on the roof is well underway and will soon be commissioned. The environment on site has been very conducive with Watpac and Cooke & Dowsett staff striving to complete this project.

Equinix ME2 Site manager Andrew Roper and his team have almost completed the Equinix ME2 colocation data centre located at Lorimer Street, Port Melbourne. The project is a multi-storey facility comprising of ground floor plant and equipment, three levels of colocation data equipment cabinets, staff amenities and a roof plant area. The facility has been designed and construction to the highest quality to ensure reliability with additional hydraulic back-up systems installed including water storage tanks, dual controlled pumps and automatic change over systems. This project has been very technical and changeling to maintain the client’s expectations and requirements. Equinix facility’s will be supporting the expanding internet, telecommunication and data markets. Project Manager Dave Benton

Members of our operations team recently visited the site of the State Netball Hockey Centre located at Parkville and were impressed not only with how works are progressing but also the numerous hydraulic innovations being implemented on this project. Project Manager Peter Mavropoulos led the “tour” which included the new indoor netball courts, new player amenities and the refurbishment of the existing facilities.
The Melbourne Central Tower Tank Project scope includes the demolition, construction and commissioning of all water tanks in a 50-storey occupied building for our new client GPT.
As the spiritual home of women in Sport, Kane have identified this project as an opportunity to promote the role of women in both the sporting and construction industries raising the profile and highlighting the important role women play in delivering landmark projects. 1st Year Plumbing Apprentice Jasmine Garner is currently working on this state significant project and flying Cooke & Dowsett’s flag for women in construction.
The project relies heavily on strategic planning involving a detailed methodology of works and numerous safety challenges which the Cooke & Dowsett team have embraced and been complimented on by the client during the latest safety audit. The Sunshine Hospital Emergency Department project consists of 3 trade packages including the Level 2 Refurbishment, Temporary Triage and Temporary Ambulance Bay. Site Manager Mark Topperwien and his team have been progressing well, recently handing over both the Ambulance Bay and Triage which are now operational. Works on the Level 2 Refurb are due to be completed by Christmas with 50% of fitoff works completed to date. Enabling works have also commenced for the new ED consisting of water diversion works, new meter assemblies, sprinkler and hydrant works.
With the weather slowly improving the site progress at the Warragul Homemaker Centre has really picked up and we are on track to complete Bunnings prior to Christmas.
V/LINE & SHED The V/Line office development in West Melbourne is currently underway with Adam Robbins working on the project. After a slow start and a few challenges, our inground and fire main works are complete. High level water and fire along with our in wall rough-ins will be completed by Christmas with fit-off due to commence in the new year.
ST LEONARD’S COLLEGE The Cooke & Dowsett crew are once again doing a fantastic job at St Leonard’s College. The teaching building is on track for a Christmas handover and with the theatre building almost watertight, rough ins will commence shortly. Brad McNamara Project Manager

Cooke & Dowsett would like to welcome Hannah Clarke who recently commenced in the role of Office/ Project Administrator based in our Albury Office. Dubbo Renal Dialysis Unit Works are now completed on the Dubbo Renal Dialysis Unit well done to Nathan O’Neill who completed his first project as Site Manager. Nathan, wife Natasha and daughter Maggie just welcomed a baby boy Toby to the world in the ward next door to the Renal Dialysis Unit so Nathan was never far away from work! Cooke & Dowsett Albury Director Ian Avage called into Dubbo Stage 4 Project on his way back from fighting fires up North – he spoke with Phil McCarran and Harry Smith working on the water softener plant room.

Mathew Dwyer has moved his family to England to spend some time with his wife’s family - thanks Mat for the last 18 months working as a leading hand on the Dubbo Stage 4 Project. Caulfield Grammar Aquatic Centre - The project has been successfully completed and handed over to the client this month on time. Sebel Resort Yarrawonga - Currently on track for project completion January 2020, Wayne Clement and his team have received great feedback from Hutchinson’s Builders on their workmanship thus far. With the help of Stephanie Hobbins, Wayne and the boys have been utilising the firedoc app which has been a great success. Lavington Sports Ground – Approaching the half way mark of the build all in ground works have been completed. There have been some hiccups along the way with the design being a refurb but with Ben Nicholls looking after this one it is in safe hands. On track for completion June 2020 and hopefully to host the next Ovens and Murray Grand Final.

Tumbarumba Multipurpose Health Service This project is now on the home run with fit-off only left on the last refurb stage, this has been quite a challenging project, but we have built a great relationship with the client with our “can do” approach. Well done to the Cooke & Dowsett team - this has now put us in a great spot for future NSW health projects. Wagga Base Stage 3 Finally, things are ramping up on site, structure is up to level 4 and our services are now getting installed in the basements and ground floor prior to Christmas. Quite a few fronts are opening up for Tim Carberry (Site Manager) and the core Wagga crew. The Albury guys will be getting a call up to help out as required which always creates good work place competition. Viasat Satellite Facility The Eastern Satellite Facility is a very interesting job for our team. The client has had major input throughout the project and we are now at the commissioning phase. A fantastic project with only fit-off remaining which has seen us work closely with Hansen Yuncken which will see handover on yet another project in 2019. As we approach the years end and look forward to the festive season, it is often a time for reflection and a time to take stock of what the future holds. Without a doubt - this year has been one of the toughest on record in the Tier 1 Construction sector and I would personally like to thank all of my staff, both of office and site for their continued efforts in turning up day in and day out in what have been some challenging times throughout the year . To my team, rest assured, we are doing everything in our power to secure more work for all involved and make 2020 a year to remember, with some positive things happening as we speak. As many of you may already know, our illustrious Qld Project Administrator is expecting! We sincerely wish you all the best for the upcoming summer Danni, and in turn the upcoming pregnancy and birth. Hope it all goes smoothly and we in the office look forward to finally being able to get a chocolate biscuit when you are on maternity leave. To the team in Qld, Danni will be taking a maternity leave break so the search will begin for a temp replacement. All the best Danni. Coming into Christmas at Inner City North State Secondary College Cooke & Dowsett have finished the civil works package. With the lowering of the GPT into the ground, this makes the groundworks now completed. Thanks to Billy Jenkinson, who has been the below ground guru back when Cooke & Dowsett started on this project back in February. With the passing of our plumbing final for Stage 1 Performing Arts Centre, due to be handed over in mid-November. A short sigh of relief to see the end of PAC, which endured some challenging times through construction`. A big thankyou to the team for all their efforts in getting this part over the line!

Kudos to Zane (Site Manager) who runs the prestigious Man of The Month (MOTM) awards. At the start of each month every site employee is given a list of items they are to work towards to get closed out. When the month comes to an end whoever has the least number of tasks receives the MOTM trophy along with a voucher. Well done to Jarrod for taking out this month’s award for the 2nd time! Sloth we won’t mention the day you had on the tools when your tape measure was found to be faulty. 443 Queen Street has hit a mile stone with the completion of the level 8 transfer slab! Words can’t describe this transfer deck as it was one beast of deck. The team at 443 have done a brilliant job of co-ordinating the big bore drainage pipework ranging in size from 110mm to 250mm through the absolute minefield of thick rea bars. Credit has to go to Andy & Chris for their effort in producing the coordinated drawings and executing the install in fine style. The transfer slab was a 2000mm thick slab over a 1386m2 footprint, which involved 590 tonne of steel and 1890m3 of concrete. The slab was poured in a series of 3 layered biscuits from the top mat of steel. As I said, it had to be seen to be believed. The completion of this deck now allows the building and core to transfer shape and begin the typical apartment floor levels which we expect to motor along in 2020. Over the sea to New Zealand, Project Manager Travis Richards has just finished his involvement with assisting in one of the Auckland projects - Scentre Group (Westfield) Shopping Centre. This job was unique as it involved both management and labour having to work alongside a local NZ plumbing company. Cooke & Dowsett were able to build a team with the help of an employment agency who of which would take over the hydraulics in the form of efficiency and organisation. There were many challenges faced with this project, QLD’ers find it hard when it comes to the cold and rain…. A major take away was the lack of plumbing labour New Zealand had to offer was quite minimal. There was initially 3 weeks of work opportunity for this project, which ended up turning to 3 months when the project was successfully complete. Big thanks to Travis (Dad) and his right-hand man Angus Hill (AKA known as Trav’s son) for putting their hand up to take on this challenge!

Down the Gold Coast Cooke & Dowsett are currently in the process of refurbing the 15th floor of the existing Hilton Hotel Tower in Surfer’s Paradise. The floor has changed from an office/meeting room space into the iconic Hilton Towers Hotel. Involves 9 brand new apartments. Which stacks and rough ins complete, fit off to start in December and final handover due midDecember. Cooke & Dowsett return to Daydream Island! We have picked up the complete fire booster upgrade within the Central Facilities building. Works to be completed for certification prior to the Christmas break. 2019 has seen the completion of some large projects in Perth and has led to the industry as a whole being a little slow, however the introduction of several large developments currently out for tendering has led to some excitement for 2020. The quality and size of these projects will lead to a very busy new year ahead for the construction industry here in Perth. Cooke & Dowsett will endeavor to be involved in many of these projects into the new year. The 15th of November saw the opening of the Ritz Carlton Hotel here in Perth. One of the country’s most anticipated hotel openings, The Ritz-Carlton, Perth will deliver personalised service, exceptional design and immersive experiences. The hotel’s unique location at The Elizabeth Quay precinct, which connects the heart of the city to the Swan River, will create a social destination for Perth’s booming tourism industry and dining scene.
In late Oct - 5 of the WA Cooke & Dowsett boys (Shannon Jones, Jarrad Sara, Paul Callaghan, Brendan Tyrell & Rob Moloney) took on a 4-day mountain bike challenge called the Cape to Cape. Over 1600 riders taking on Australia’s longest running & biggest mountain bike staged race. The race covered 208kms over 4 days in the beautiful Margaret River region in the states South West with Jarrod taking overall honours from the Cooke & Dowsett boys. We were absolutely spent by the end of day 4 and enjoyed a well-earned beer on the final day. Thankfully everyone completed the race with no mechanical problems and no major accidents! Pacifica Apartments – Sky High!
Works are progressing well on the Pacifica Luxury Apartments in New Zealand. Construction has hit Level 40 with the jump form at Level 43. Fixtures are being installed from Level 9 upwards including the showroom in apartment 906. Project Manager Gary Moore is please with how the project is tracking and is enjoying his many eperiences in New Zealand. The roof of Bunnings Westgate is almost complete with the famous green cladding wrapping the building at a speedy rate.

PROJECT PLUMBING & MAINTENANCE
Gemlife Team Woodend
Project Plumbing & Maintenance (PPM) is on its way to becoming a solid establishment comprising an exceptional quota of construction and maintenance projects that have been carried out since the start of the new financial year. Supervised by Peter Herzog, PPM successfully conveyed the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) second Horizontal Boring Project, this time at Elizabeth Street in Richmond. The scope of work performed involved the replacement of their semicentennial sewer Connection. The team retired the 50-year-old connection from the main building to the boundary trap which was in need of the successful replacement. PPM’s Carl Misson was the team leader for the upgrade at Melbourne’s Major Sporting venue - Marvel Stadium. Caroma appointed PPM as the head contractor to raise the standard of the existing, over 20-year-old amenities. The upgrade included the installation of the latest technology in Caroma Smart Command systems for urinal flushing, toilet flushing and shower functionality. To complete the enhancement of these amenities tiling and carpentry works were also carried out. The upgrade to the Caroma Smart Command system enables Marvel Stadium personnel to monitor the hot and cold-water usage of each fixture through its connection to the in house BMS system where the data is connected and analyzed. The finished amenities were shown at the World Plumbing Conference in September 2019. Ethan Minns has excelled in his first major site lead at MITS (Melbourne Indigenous Transition School) Girls Boarding and Respite. PPM is currently engaged by Kane/Arete Constructions to carry out the Hydraulic Services Works at 139 Richmond Terrace. The project has felt its fair volume of challenges considering the layout of its existing structure. Ethan has swiftly responded to each of these requisitions, working through strategies to rectify their contents making sure he is always on top of the project.

The Contracted Warehouse Extension at Jessica Road in Campbellfield, led by Steven Cameron has been progressing with the assistance of his predecessor, Scott Thompson from the Cooke & Dowsett Team. All in-ground services have been finalized, steel structures are up and we are currently in the midst of establishing the suspended stormwater. PPM thanks the generous contribution from our associates at Cooke & Dowsett in supporting us with their trusted Plumber in achieving this projects deadline.

Marvel Stadium Shower – Before & After
At Gemlife Aged Care in Woodend Stephen Dale is currently leading the hands-on duo with Mitchell Kennedy. Together they occupy in solid activity, conveying the plumbing installations for over 60 Villas at Stages 1 and 2 where a further 100 Villas are yet to be announced at Stage 3. Stephen has been working closely with the Building Site Manager from GemLife to hand over each Villa to the highest standard. James Climas has embedded our onsite presence at Deakin University in Burwood which is now being fulfilled by Steven Cameron. Steven will continue addressing and managing all aspects of Plumbing, including Gas, Roofing and General Maintenance, while permanently stationed on site. PPM Congratulates and welcomes James Climas on his new role of Project Manager. We are destined to see some great attributes to PPM projects with the addition of this new role together with James’ expertise on the field.
DHHS Horizontal Boring Project
PPM has secured ongoing maintenance contracts for Miele Australia, Lend Lease and several other commercial real estates. We are the preferred Plumbing Maintenance Contractor for BSA and are carrying out audits and maintenance works on different facilities nationwide. All our staff have attended training courses at the Rinnai Training Centre for service and repair of Rinnai Hot Water Systems. In addition, PPM staff attended the Caroma Office for special training on Caroma products to carry out their maintenance works in Victoria. All employees have completed their Working with Children cards and Police Check’s. On the technical site, the whole team will have their backflow prevention and Thermostatic Mixing Valve qualification completed by the end of the year. Peter Herzog General Manager PPM

RAAF Base Curtin – Derby
Nudj are currently working on a number of prominent projects including RAAF Base Curtin – Derby. This project includes the Hydraulics Works Package for the Regional Fire Protection Equipment Compliance Project at RAAF Base Curtin, Derby in WA for Barpa Construction Services. Works are due for completion towards the end of 2019. The Shell Prelude Off Shore Oil Rig contract includes the routine and preventative maintenance works on the prelude floating liquified natural gas facility. Situated 475KM’s north east of Broome in the Timor Sea makes for an interesting commute to work by helicopter. Nudj are currently working in One Arm Point conducting an audit of the communities waste water and have partnered with the WA Water Corporation on a range of projects. Water and waste services for new science lab benches Lands Building Redevelopment
Robert Pearshouse Director Christmas is almost upon us yet again, the year has just flown past. Cooke & Dowsett -Rosetta Plumbing (CDR) has had a great 2019. We have secured a number of key flagship projects, we have a great team of quality staff, plumbers, site managers, administration and estimating staff and the prospects of ongoing and upcoming works are looking bright for 2020. Welcome new employee Jackie Appleby who has come on board in the role of Project Administrator. A key aspect of company success and longevity within the Tasmanian Building and Construction sector is diversity of works. Due to the amounts of larger projects across the estimating desk, a ‘healthy’ portfolio of works needs to include a mix of work projects from building upgrades and refurbishments, residential developments right through to new commercial and industrial major development projects. Tasmania is still la boutique state. Even in Tasmania’s largest city, Hobart we do not see the volume and scale of building works contracts that are common place in some of the other major states.
ST MICHAELS COLLEGIATE SCHOOL – SCIENCE BLOCK UPGRADE CDR Site Manager Kalum Krautz has been in charge of overseeing the upgrade of St Michaels Collegiate School project that has seen the refurbishment and upgrade of the schools Science Block. The works have included the upgrading and layout changes of the school’s aging storm water, sewer, tradewaste, water main, and fire services. In an interesting side note, Rosetta Plumbing has a long- standing history with working at the school including re-roofing the building CDR is currently upgrading.
Two such key smaller projects that CDR are currently working on are St Michaels Collegiate School – Science Block Upgrade and the Lands Building Redevelopment.

Refurbishment jobs can be difficult work and can involve working in tricky conditions as can be seen above where the boys had to renew approximately 40mtrs of sewer and storm water working between two existing buildings. Whilst this work can at times be difficult and challenging the diversity of work (even within a single project) is a contributing factor to why plumbing is such an awesome trade.

LANDS BUILDING REDEVELOPMENT Another of CDR’s current smaller, yet equally important projects is the Lands Building Redevelopment. Site Manager Kyle Richardson and his team have been carrying out this refurbishment within an existing 10 story office building installing new bathrooms, kitchenettes and providing services for a new vertical garden green feature wall on each floor. ‘There are definitely many challenges working within an existing live building’ Kyle said. ‘The staging requirements are critical. Whole floors of workers are being displaced so our handover dates are non-negotiable. There are so many tradies in such a small place, you just have to get in and get your tasks done’. The first stage of the project has been the most challenging because of the provisioning of providing capped services for sewer, cold water and hot water flow and return to each floor. In the subsequent stages, the floors being worked on will be vacant and it should just be a case of coming back through and connecting to the points we have previous left.

Congratulations to Nikki Fischer On the 8th of November the National Association of Women in Construction Tasmanian Chapter Annual Awards of Excellence were held at MONA. Cooke & Dowsett – Rosetta Plumbing’s very own Nikki Fischer won not only one but two amazing awards for her works within the plumbing industry. ‘we are so proud of Nikki, she is absolutely amazing and doing an incredible job at flying the flag for all women within the construction industry, specifically plumbing’ On behalf of the entire extended team at CDR, I would like to congratulate Nikki on her achievements and we are so pleased she has been formally recognised for the great work she is doing.
