After two online only events, Sydney Contemporary is back this year at Carriageworks and the Cooee Art booth will showcasing two artists, Dorothy Robinson Napangardi and Birrmuyingathi Maali Netta Loogatha. While superficially opposite in style, both women express their deep connection to their country and the importance for story telling. Napangardi, a Walpiri artist from Yuemdemu in the Northern Territory and Loogatha from Bentinck Island in Far North Queensland. Lifted from under the surface is a shared passion, rhythmic and powerful.
The very act of painting is a means by which they can revise and vivify knowledge of Country. The artists let the viewer follow in the footsteps of their ancestors as they share stories of both place and dreaming.
