The city of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, is home to a dedicated community working to uplift the local food economy and increase resident access to fresh and healthy food. This community food system study analyzes the existing assets that support local food production and equitable distribution. It also explores potential strategies to foster long-term resilience in the food system through community ownership over food production and equitable access to fresh, local, and culturally appropriate food options. Informed by the insight and experiences of community members, previous and ongoing research, and local case studies, this study builds upon the work already underway in the Pittsfield community to support a robust and equitable food system.

The Conway School is the only institution of its kind in North America. Its focus is sustainable landscape planning and design and its graduates are awarded a Master of Science in Ecological Design degree. Each year, students from diverse backgrounds are immersed in a range of real-world design and planning projects, ranging from sites to cities to regions.
