A message from the CEO Dear valued customer, This spring and summer, Road Machinery & Supplies Co. celebrated its 100th anniversary. We hosted several events throughout our footprint to honor this significant milestone, which we highlight in this issue. We were happy and grateful to see many of you in attendance, and I look forward to working with you in the years to come. To better serve you, RMS has made the decision to fully integrate Ruffridge Johnson into RMS, which means its former facility in Centerville, Minn., will now be a full-service RMS branch. I encourage you to read the full article inside to get more information about this transition. Earlier this year, North America’s largest construction trade show — CONEXPO-CON/AGG — took place in Las Vegas, where more than 2,000 exhibitors showcased the newest equipment and technology across every major construction segment. Komatsu launched Mike Sill II and previewed a broad lineup of machines, engines and digital solutions designed to improve productivity, automation and jobsite connectivity. Take a look at the recap in this issue to learn about CONEXPO-CON/AGG as well as Komatsu’s featured products, including a new HM460-6 articulated truck and a range of Smart Construction solutions. We also offer an insight into Komatsu’s recently introduced PC365LC-11 multifunction plus excavator. Built to deliver more power exactly where it’s needed, the machine combines a fully electric swing system, advanced hydraulics and a refined operator environment to help contractors complete jobs faster while significantly reducing fuel consumption and operating costs. If you have been considering adding a new excavator to your fleet, Komatsu’s next-generation PC220LC-12 and PC220LCi-12 models deliver comfort, control and automation. The PC220LCi-12 includes the latest intelligent machine control (IMC) 3.0 technology with two new features: swing-to-line and travel-along-line. Check out the article inside to learn more about these advancements and the benefits of both models. Additionally, there are many more valuable articles I think you will enjoy, such as a summary of the RMS Rentals Open House — which broke the previous attendance record — as well as customer and employee features. RP Constructors Advanced technology fuels Siouxland-area firm’s expansion across country

C

ompleting a construction project requires many things, but the two main components are the job plans created by engineers and the workers who carry them out. Even the most thorough plans can be derailed once ground is broken. When this happens, resolving it requires a massive amount of data and communication

between the two parties, resulting in lost time, costly changes and project stakeholder frustration. But what if both the engineers and the field professionals had the same training, communication style and — most importantly — boss? RP Constructors LLC answered that question: successful and efficient project completion. “Typically, our engineers spend their first couple of years in the field and learn how a jobsite works. It gives them a leg up, and they become better designers because of it.” - Travis Thom, Vice President, RP Constructors LLC In 2009, Callaghan LLC started as an engineering firm in Sioux City, Iowa, that focused on designing plans for civil construction projects. In 2014, it expanded into the field when it purchased a portion of a local construction company and started RP Constructors. This move enabled the company to not only design the plans but also carry them out to completion. “It was always our plan to do construction,” recalled Vice President Travis Thom. “We started with 15 employees, and now we have 83, including separate plumbing, industrial and welding crews.”

Using a pair of Komatsu excavators, RP Constructors lowers an 8-by-10-foot water well into place.

4

Having both engineering and field professionals is one thing, but what makes RP Constructors unique is how it integrated them.

A trio of RP Constructors’ Komatsu excavators work in tandem to place a section of pipe. Jobs like this are what RP Constructors seeks out. “The more complex it is, the better it is for us,” said Vice President Travis Thom. “Typically, our engineers spend their first couple of years in the field and learn how a jobsite works,” described Thom. “It gives them a leg up, and they become better designers because of it. A 46,000-pound pipe section doesn’t look that heavy on a piece of paper. An actual 46,000-pound piece of pipe is completely different. That first-hand experience saves a lot of time in the initial design as well as adapting to changes that are needed when a job starts.” “Most engineers don’t know how to build — ours do,” added Director of Logistics Phil Sorensen.

Remote expansion Today, RP Constructors completes design-build projects across the country from its headquarters in the Siouxland area. The spark that enabled that expansion was the technology in Komatsu’s Smart Construction equipment. “Until 2020, the farthest we’d traveled was Ida Grove, Iowa, which is 100 miles,” reported Thom. “Then, we took a job in Georgia.” The job was a quantum leap for RP Constructors, but Thom said the company was confident because of its fleet of Komatsu intelligent machine control (IMC) equipment and Smart Construction software. “We were truly 100% remote for the whole project,” noted Thom. “We didn’t even have finalized blueprints when we left, but we were confident that we had the technology, crew and equipment to do it. We finished the plans, uploaded them to the machines and got to work.”

A large part of that confidence was the training RP Constructors received from Road Machinery & Supplies Co. Technology Solutions Expert Tyler Sherrill and support from Territory Manager Mike Albright. “Tyler was very beneficial,” shared Thom. “He worked with our crews, and he was able to remote in when there was an issue. For example, we had to redraw a plan because there was a water line at the jobsite that wasn’t accounted for in the plans. Instead of driving the 1,000 miles to the jobsite — which is what you would do if it was local — we did it all remotely in a couple of hours.”

Phil Sorensen, Director of Logistics

Since then, RP Constructors has repeated the process in Texas, Alabama, West Virginia and Arizona.

The cutting edge The technological capabilities Komatsu offers won over the office side of RP Constructors, and the machines have delivered in the field — especially the IMC pieces. Komatsu has a major presence in the RP Constructors fleet with two Komatsu D61PXi IMC dozers as well as PC490LCi and PC360LCi IMC excavators. “The technology side has always kept us with Komatsu; they’ve always been on the cutting edge,” reflected Thom. “Our operators really like the hydraulics and the IMC capabilities.” “We have a couple of operators with 50-plus years of operation, and they’ve seen a lot of changes in their lifetime,” stated Sorensen. “One of them was

very much against the IMC at first, but after the first time he used it, we couldn’t get him out of it! Once he realized how it worked and finally ran it, he loved it. He’s 72 and is our biggest proponent of the machine.”

Searching for difficult The successful Georgia project cemented the mindset for RP Constructors that it would continue to travel for complex projects, no matter where they were. The Komatsu PC490LCi-11 intelligent machine control (IMC) excavator has earned its place in RP Constructors’ fleet. “We have a couple of operators with 50-plus years of operation,” said Director of Logistics Phil Sorensen. “One of them was very much against the IMC at first, but after the first time he used it, we couldn’t get him out of it! Once he realized how it worked and finally ran it, he loved it. He’s 72 and is our biggest proponent of the machine.”

“It was clear that we were set up to compete for those big jobs. The more complex it is, the better it is for us,” said Thom. That outlook is on full display on a current project in the Dallas, Texas, area. RP Constructors is working on a phase of a water treatment plant installing pipe ranging from 54 to 96 inches in diameter. “It’s a three-year project that really encompasses what we can do,” explained Thom. “We were involved in the design and construction, and it requires some very complex work. For example, we’re laying 50-foot sticks that weigh upward of 46,000 pounds.” Completing projects like these have earned the firm a strong reputation.

Strong partnership Having a trusted partner is key to successfully completing projects across the country. With RMS and Komatsu, Thom emphasized that RP Constructors has the confidence it needs to work competitively. “The equipment and technology are why we chose Komatsu, but a big part of why we’ve stayed with it is RMS and the team we have with Mike, Tyler and [PSSR] Chad Brown,” commented Thom. “A lot of times, guys in the field will bypass the office and call Tyler on their own. They’ve built that close of a relationship.” Location is also a major factor. RP Constructors’ facilities are just a few minutes from RMS’ new Sioux City branch location, a site RP Constructors designed and built. “When RMS was looking for a new location, they reached out to us. We drew up a site plan and all the site utilities and paved it — we even did the inside plumbing,” said Thom. “When buying any product, the first question I always ask is, ‘What’s your after-product look like? Who am I calling, who can I count on, and what can I expect after the purchase?’ RMS has continued to demonstrate that they will answer the call for us,” concluded Sorensen. *The opinions expressed here are based on the customer’s specific experience. At CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026, Komatsu introduces its new DBA127 engine, which powers the new Komatsu HM460-6 articulated truck and will power additional soon-to-be launched machines.

Honoring those who build One of the CONEXPO-CON/AGG’s most visible moments came during the opening ceremony, when thousands of attendees donned bright orange safety vests for a Guinness World Record attempt for the largest gathering of people wearing high-visibility construction vests. Organizers aimed to surpass the previous record of 2,499 participants, using the moment to emphasize the construction industry’s commitment to safety and its collective impact on infrastructure, transportation networks, energy development, sports venues and civic landmarks across North America. “This record attempt is more than a number — it’s a celebration of the advances, hard work, innovation and dedication of everyone in the construction industry,” Wuesthoff said. “We want to honor those who build our cities, roads, railways, airports, stadiums and monuments, and highlight how their efforts touch every aspect of society. This record is particularly important to us as safety is and always will be of utmost priority for the industry and the people who make this work possible.” CONEXPO-CON/AGG also served as a forum for thought leadership through 150 educational sessions. On the show’s Ground Breakers Stage, experts discussed emerging topics

including artificial intelligence in construction, workforce development and infrastructure investment. Workshops focused on small business growth, equipment maintenance and mentorship opportunities for women in construction, reinforcing the industry’s emphasis on workforce development. The scale and influence of CONEXPO-CON/AGG reflect more than a century of industry evolution. The show traces its roots back to 1909, when the original Road Show in Columbus, Ohio, featured just 40 equipment manufacturers across 40,000 square feet. Today, the event has grown into a global platform for innovation, connecting thousands of companies and professionals shaping the future of the built environment. “A century of progress is reflected in CONEXPO-CON/AGG’s scale, scope and spirit,” Wuesthoff stated. “This event continues to elevate the equipment manufacturing industry — amplifying innovation, insight and influence.” As the 2026 show concluded, organizers emphasized that the relationships formed, deals negotiated and technologies introduced during the week will ripple across construction projects worldwide for many years to come. The next edition of CONEXPO-CON/AGG is scheduled to return to Las Vegas March 13-17, 2029.

Enhanced performance and reduced fuel consumption The PC365LC-11 is the only excavator in its class equipped with a fully electric swing system with “boom-up” power assist. The PC365LC-11’s electric swing motor enhances multifunction performance by delivering faster swing acceleration, reducing cycle times and increasing productivity. Unlike conventional hydraulic swing motors, the PC365LC-11’s electric swing motor recovers kinetic energy at the end of each swing and converts it to electricity. That energy is stored in the Komatsu-designed ultra-capacitor, where it can power the electric swing motor or be directed to the engine-mounted motor-generator. This provides

an instantaneous boost of up to 70 additional horsepower to the work equipment by assisting the engine’s response from an ultra-low idle speed of 700 RPM. The ultra-low idle state was designed to reduce fuel consumption further — lowering total cost of ownership and minimizing downtime. All electrical energy used by the system is generated during normal machine operation, and there is no need for external charging. By eliminating the need for hydraulic power for swing operations, full hydraulic flow is now optimally routed to the boom, arm and bucket cylinders — improving digging cycle times, reducing work equipment lag and creating a smoother operation in multifunction applications. The electric powertrain also contributes to a quieter jobsite. Eliminating hydraulic flow during the swinging motion reduces mechanical noise and vibration, and the ultra-low 700 RPM idle speed operates significantly quieter than the conventional 1,000 RPM low idle. The external noise reduction of 4 dB(A) helps improve the working environment for the operator, nearby crews and others near the jobsite.

• Technology that gets the job done: The KomVision camera system comes as standard** and provides a real-time bird’s-eye view of the machine and its surroundings to help improve situational awareness that supports Komatsu’s mission of zero harm. An optional Smart Construction 3D Machine Guidance kit can be factory-installed, giving operators and managers access to 3D design and topographic data to improve accuracy, manage load volumes and optimize operations.

Compared to the previous model, the PC365LC-11 brings new features and enhancements across three key areas: operator experience, technology and attachment flexibility:

• Efficient, fast and versatile attachment operation: The tool control system is standard for machine configurations with a plus one hydraulic attachment piping. This empowers operators to configure and store flow rates and target pressures for multiple attachments. Attachment information is displayed on the in-cab monitor interface, enabling quick switching between tools with accurate, preconfigured hydraulic settings. Optional hydraulic quick coupler piping can be factory-installed, saving both time and local installation costs. This piping provides the necessary hydraulic flow and pressure to operate hydraulic quick couplers, such as the Lehnhoff fully automatic symmetric quick coupler.

• Greater operator comfort for long shifts: A new standard** premium heated air-suspension operator seat features a high leather back,

For added peace of mind, the machine’s electric powertrain components are covered by a 7-year/15,000-hour transferable warranty.

Even in the most demanding multifunction applications, these advancements make the PC365LC-11 up to 15% more productive and reduce fuel consumption by up to 20% when compared to the conventional PC360LC/LCi-11 — a rare combination of higher output and greater efficiency.

The Komatsu PC365LC-11 multifunction plus excavator delivers more power where it counts with a fully electric swing system, advanced hydraulics and a refined operator environment.

improved cushioning and multiple adjustments to enhance operator comfort during long working shifts. New standard proportional joysticks provide smooth, variable-speed control of plus one attachments while offering an ergonomic feel, helping reduce operator fatigue and wrist stress.

Excavator Updates

Smart alignment features PC220LC-12 and PC220LCi-12 excavators deliver comfort, control and automation, while the latter features even more advanced technology

K

omatsu’s new PC220LCi-12 excavator, with the latest intelligent machine control update (IMC 3.0), introduces two significant technological features designed to help operators work more efficiently: swing-to-line and travel-along-line. These features build on Komatsu’s growing lineup of intelligent automation, offering refined machine movement that supports accuracy, consistency and reduced operator effort on trenching-focused jobs. Swing-to-line is selectable by tapping a polyline and marking it as a checkable option. Once activated, the machine automatically restricts unnecessary overswing when returning to the trench after dumping, ensuring the upper structure stays aligned with the intended cut. Operators benefit from smoother, more predictable cycle movements and better trench-to-dump workflow rhythm. Travel-along-line, also enabled by selecting a polyline as a checkable option, helps the excavator maintain a square position to the center of the trench line as it advances. By minimizing the need for constant micro-repositioning, this background function helps operators stay on the line, improve trench continuity and reduce time lost to realignment.

factory-installed feature — another industry first for excavators.

Added comfort and exceptional performance Comfort and performance remain core strengths of both models. The redesigned cab provides 28% more space, 30% more legroom, significantly improved visibility, reduced noise and vibration, and a high-quality heated air-suspension seat. An 8-inch HD monitor gives operators easy access to machine data and customization settings. A new electronically controlled hydraulic system paired with a high-output engine delivers tangible performance gains. Compared to the previous Komatsu PC210LC-11, operations can benefit from up to: 8% greater digging force, 7% more lift capacity, 20% lower fuel costs, and 18% higher workload productivity with a new P plus mode.

*All percentage claims are based on a comparison to the previous PC210LC-11 model. Reductions in maintenance costs are due to longer replacement intervals for hydraulic oil and oil filters and longer cleaning intervals for the particulate filter.

Komatsu also prioritized safety and operator assurance. Features such as rollover avoidance, KomVision 360-degree camera coverage, object detection, automatic deceleration controls and seat belt reminders promote zero harm. Maintenance is streamlined with ground-level service points and longer replacement intervals, helping reduce costs by up to 20%.

These new capabilities build on an already-advanced technology base of the companion model without IMC 3.0, the PC220LC-12. Even without the addition of intelligent machine control, the PC220LC-12 includes some powerful integrated baseline smart tools: 2D machine control, 2D boundary control and payload monitoring. But for operations looking to level up on cutting-edge technology that helps good operators do a great job, the PC220LCi-12 adds the IMC 3.0 platform for advanced automation. Features such as auto grade assist, bucket angle hold, compaction control, minimum distance control, auto swing, advanced payload monitoring and industry-first integrated 3D boundary control help operators work more precisely and productively across the full jobsite. Auto swing and travel stop functionality is another notable

Komatsu’s PC220LCi-12 intelligent machine control (IMC) 3.0 excavator now features swing-to-line and travel-along-line functions that help operators work more efficiently.

ATC 2026

Skills tested Komatsu’s national Advanced Technician Competition put customer uptime front and center as competitors performed inspections and identified issues

I

n an industry where equipment downtime can halt productivity and drive up costs, technicians play a critical role in keeping operations moving. That reality was on full display at Komatsu’s national Advanced Technician Competition (ATC), where top distributor technicians from across North America competed in a rigorous, real-world test of skill. Held at Komatsu’s Cartersville Customer Center in Georgia, the event highlighted the expertise required to maintain and repair machinery. Ten technicians from Komatsu’s dealer network took part. More than just a competition, the event underscored Komatsu’s commitment to customer service and minimizing downtime, according to Griffin Reome, Director of Technical Workforce Development for Komatsu. “This competition is an awesome way to showcase the faces behind the iron,” said Reome. “Our customers can’t live without our field techs, and ATC is one of the best opportunities to highlight their skillset and abilities to diagnose issues and identify fixes. In addition, they were tasked with doing a machine inspection, identifying issues and giving customers recommendations for addressing those.”

Built on real-world challenges ATC was designed to mirror the realities technicians face in the field. It involved three stations, each featuring different machines and problem scenarios, all requiring a methodical approach to troubleshooting and repair. Communication also played a central role in the evaluation process, reflecting its importance in the field. Competitors were given an hour per station to diagnose and resolve issues, with a brief period to familiarize themselves with the equipment before being timed. Komatsu personnel “bugged” a PC220LCi-12 intelligent machine control (IMC) excavator and a D71PXi-24 IMC dozer for the diagnosis stations. An older WA320PZ wheel loader was used for the machine inspection. Unlike traditional skills competitions, ATC evaluated more than just whether a technician could diagnose and fix a problem. Judges assessed each competitor on a range of criteria designed to reflect a full customer experience. Judges played the role of the customer who had called to have a technician assess the machines’ issues and perform the inspection.

Komatsu’s Advanced Technician Competition (ATC) includes three stations, each with a one-hour time limit, where competitors must identify equipment issues and find solutions to fix them.

31

“We had very detailed bugs in these machines that the technicians had to strategically, methodically troubleshoot, based on information from the customer, as well as their skills,” explained Andrew Earing, Director of Operator and Technical Training, Komatsu. “Communication was extremely important because it was the first line of contact with the customer, who provided background and information that the technician could use to diagnose and fix the issues.” After the initial discussion with the customer, technicians were tasked with using their expertise, training, service manuals, tools, and other information to resolve the issue. During the inspection, they had to identify any potential issues that could affect the equipment’s performance, and provide recommendations for fixes. Scoring included: • Technical performance, for accurate diagnosis and repair • Safety, confirming proper procedures were followed • Professionalism, including demeanor and approach

At its core, the competition highlighted the direct connection between skilled technicians and customer uptime. Effective maintenance, especially when proactive, helps avoid costly breakdowns and keeps equipment operating efficiently. By simulating real-world service scenarios, ATC reinforced the importance of quick, accurate troubleshooting and clear communication under pressure. It also demonstrated how technicians served as a critical link between Komatsu and its customers, according to Reome. The return of ATC came at a time when the industry faces an ongoing shortage of skilled labor. Dealers across North America are actively working to recruit and retain qualified technicians, making workforce development a top priority. By reviving the competition, Komatsu aimed to elevate the profession, recognize top talent, and inspire the next generation of technicians.

• Documentation, such as correct part numbers and service records

For participants, ATC was as much about recognition as it was competition. Simply earning a spot among the finalists reflected a high level of skill and dedication.

Each winner of the Komatsu ATC received a selection of Komatsu-branded prizes and merchandise. In addition, the top two finishers earned an exclusive “Day in the Life” experience with the opportunity to see how a pit crew operates up close at the upcoming Miami Grand Prix, United States, made possible through Komatsu’s ongoing partnership with the Atlassian Williams F1 Team.

“ATC aligns with Komatsu’s broader efforts to grow the technician workforce through education partnerships, training programs and career development opportunities,” said Reome. “The number one thing we want them to know is that we’re not successful without them. We hope to continue ATC for a long time to come.”

Competitors are judged on technical performance, safety, professionalism and documentation.

Forestry Focus

Full-cycle forestry solutions Komatsu broadens its forestry lineup with equipment and technology designed to support the full cycle of timber production

F

rom harvesting and extraction to silviculture and planting, Komatsu’s forestry equipment helps contractors fell, harvest, load and process timber. “Komatsu manufactures a wide variety of forestry machines that are high-performing, high-quality and built for the toughest conditions,” said Doug Morris, Vice President of Komatsu’s North American forestry business. “Whether a customer is in cut-to-length applications or needs full-tree solutions, we offer a broad range of products and technology that perform well in each segment.” Komatsu’s forestry lineup includes forwarders and wheeled harvesters for cut-to-length work, harvester heads for processing, swing machines for log loading and processing, TimberPro tracked machines for harvesting and felling, and Bracke products for silviculture and planting applications. That application-specific range gives contractors options that fit their production methods, terrain and timber conditions.

machine responds before they ever step into an actual machine. At a time when the industry is really struggling to find operators with a lot of experience, simulators help people become productive much faster.”

Full-cycle support Today, forestry equipment is about more than production. Customer support, parts availability and operator comfort all play an important role in equipment decisions. Through decades of relationships with customers and distributors, Komatsu has shaped its equipment to meet customers’ evolving needs. “By listening to customer input and investing in products and technologies across the full forestry cycle, Komatsu is positioned to support customers well beyond production,” Morris concluded. “That means giving them the equipment, service and support they need to operate efficiently and plan for the long term.”

“We have continued to invest in forestry by expanding our product portfolio,” Morris stated. “That gives customers a wider range of equipment options suited to the way they work and the conditions they face.”

Operator simulator training In addition to iron in the field, operator development remains a key part of the equation. The Komatsu wheeled harvester operator simulator allows operators to train in a controlled environment before working in the woods. “The simulator significantly shortens the learning curve for an operator and helps get that person ready for a production environment,” Morris explained. “They can refine their techniques and learn how the
