Dallas-to-Houston Rail Comes Closer to Reality After receiving federal approval, Texas Central LLC expects to start construction of the high-speed rail connecting Dallas and Houston in 90 minutes in the first half of 2021. The project is expected to take up to six years and cost around $20 billion. The Federal Railroad Administration approved the plans in September, according to Texas Central Railroad. The Webuild Group and its U.S. subsidiary and joint-venture partner Lane Construction are a step closer to starting work on a highspeed railway after the publication of two federal decisions on the historic project that will bring a major boost to the economy and create thousands of jobs. Texas Central LLC awarded the designbuild contract for the early part of construction to Webuild and Lane in September 2019. Texas Central received the Rule of Particular Applicability (RPA) from the U.S.

It also received the Record of Decision (RoD), completing the environmen-

Demolition of Molson Coors Coming Soon in Colorado DENVER (AP) As part of its corporate farewell to Denver, Molson Coors Beverage Co. vowed last fall to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in the company’s brewing plant in Golden, Colo., the second-largest beer-making facility in the world. Now the scope of that work is coming into focus, and heavy machinery is on the horizon in Jefferson County. “Demolition activities will be starting relatively quickly,” Peter J. Coors, son of Molson Coors vice chairman and longtime face of Coors Brewing Pete Coors, told The Denver Post. The younger Coors has been named the director of the G150 project, a name taken from the impending 150-year anniversary of family patriarch Adolph Coors launching a brewing company in Golden with fellow Prussian immigrant Jacob Schueler in 1873. G150, scheduled to stretch into 2024, will completely overhaul the infrastructure between the company’s Golden brewhouse and the packaging facility at the massive plant. New, more-efficient fermenting, aging and filtration facilities will be built. The socalled “government cellars” where beer is stored prior to packaging will also be replaced with a state-of-the-art upgrade, Coors said. That building dates back to the 1950s. “Obviously, we have made capital improvements over the course of the last 50, 60 years, but all of those buildings were of that vintage,” he said. “It means a lot that Molson Coors is putting the money into the Golden brewery to set us up going forward.” The existing fermenting, filtering and storage facilities aren’t being removed as part of the work, Coors said. Instead, they will be abandoned in place. The new tank farms coming as part of the project will be replacing surface parking lots and ponds on

For now, the Golden brewery’s upgrade is set up so that it will continue only to produce beers like Coors Banquet Beer, Miller Genuine Lite, Blue Moon Belgian White and 22 other well-known brands, but it will have the capability to be retrofitted to make hard seltzers, Coors said. “Things like Coors seltzer, that technology is not part of this project but it will enable us to add that capability in the future,” Coors said. The plant can make between 11 and 12 million barrels of beer a year, a cap brought Heavy machinery is on the horizon in Jefferson County as demolition activities will on by the capacity of its packaging operabegin relatively quickly, according to Peter J. New Mexico Utility Unveils 50-MW Solar Facility to Power Facebook RIO RANCHO, N.M. (AP) The largest electric provider in New Mexico has unveiled its latest solar array, a 50-megawatt facility that was built to power Facebook’s Los Lunas Data Center with renewable energy. A virtual ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Oct. 7 for the Encino Solar Field, located in Sandoval County, N.M., west of Rio Rancho. Public Service Co. of New Mexico and New Mexico Renewable Development LLC entered an agreement last year to build the solar array to provide electricity for Facebook’s data center near Los Lunas.
Construction of the solar plant included around 180,000 solar modules. The utility said it’s committed to its goal of providing emissions-free electricity to customers over the next two decades. Facebook has committed to support its operations with 100 percent renewable energy beginning this year. With the Encino solar array, the utility said its ownership and power purchase agreements equal 287 megawatts of solar and more than 350 megawatts of wind. Additional renewable resources are expected to come online over the next few years.

HOLT Ventures Continues Innovation With AI Platform
Adam Handfinger
Joshua Levy
HOLT Ventures, the venture capital arm of HOLT CAT, announced its investment in Document Crunch, an artificial intelligence platform designed specifically for the construction industry. Created by a team with more than 30 years of combined experience in construction law and risk management, Document Crunch enables users to review complex project documents, including contracts, specifications and insurance policies quickly and easily, identifying a curated list of key provisions and providing sample language, insights and rationale, according to the company. “Document Crunch is the first artificial intelligence tool in the construction industry that provides transparency regarding what we believe are the critical risks in important
project documents,” explained Co-Founder and Curator Joshua Levy. “Not only does this save time and money, it helps users identify and contextualize potentially catastrophic issues.” The Document Crunch platform allows users to upload documents on a case-by-case basis, with no minimum requirements, upfront costs or commitments. Within minutes, the artificial intelligence technology, with an algorithm that has been trained by construction industry experts, will identify a curated set of key provisions for the type of document uploaded and provide insight based on the type of provisions found, according to the company. This is critically important as it

end customer base, with a clear focus on growing market share. Mozey brings a successful track record in sales having previously worked in Terex’s utilities business. The U.S. market is of significant strategic importance to Terex and the addition of Mozey further confirms this commitment to this market, according to the manufacturer.
can help anyone in the construction industry better appreciate major risks that may have otherwise gone unrealized. “HOLT Ventures’ goal is to advance ideas and technologies that are disrupting the industry,” said Meg Paulus, HOLT Ventures partner. “The founders of Document Crunch have a long history in the industry and intimate knowledge of the issues their customers face, which is what makes the product so unique. When speaking to customers, it was evident that nothing like Document Crunch existed, and that it was greatly needed in the market.” Document Crunch recently was named the winner of the Industrial Grade Innovation Conference “Start-Up Battle.” Produced by The Association of Union Constructors (TAUC), the "Start-Up Battle" pits new construction technology firms against each other to pitch their products to a group of seasoned venture capitalists as well as various industry members. “It is exciting to see our idea turn into a solution now being used by the construction industry, and then have that solution get amazing accolades like the ‘Start-Up Battle’ win,” said Adam Handfinger, a Document Crunch co-founder and advisor. “Winning the challenge coincides with our new partnership with HOLT Ventures, which we are equally excited about. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Document Crunch.” Document Crunch soft launched at the end of 2019, and with the investment from HOLT Ventures, is now in the growth stage, gaining traction throughout the construction
industry with users ranging from a number of leading contractors, to small and medium-sized construction companies across the country. “Many small- to mid-size companies don’t have inhouse lawyers or other risk management professionals, so reviewing long and complex contracts can be costly and time consuming,” explained Levy. “Builders want to build, and operators have no appetite for getting bogged down by all of the small print. Document Crunch unlocks subject matter expertise at a fraction of the cost and allows companies to reap the benefits of AI technology without investing significant time and resources into training their own contract/document review platform.” Construction technology continues to reshape the industry, increasing safety, productivity and profitability. The continued advancement in artificial intelligence and its application in the construction industry is among the newest technologies and tools that inspired HOLT to create HOLT Ventures, the company said. “Innovation was the driving force behind our own company’s evolution, and we are dedicated to supporting innovation for our customers and the industries we serve,” explained Peter J. Holt, CEO of HOLT CAT. The mission of HOLT Ventures is to optimize the service, manufacturing, rental and distribution businesses for the future while adapting to evolving customer demands. HOLT invests in early stage companies, building partnerships and piloting new technologies to help build and scale small business. For more information about HOLT Ventures, , visit holtventures.com. AED Gets Approval to Oversee Apprenticeship Programs By Giles Lambertson CEG CORRESPONDENT
After a two-year application process, the AED Foundation has been authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor to create and manage department-approved apprenticeship programs in Associated Equipment Distributor dealerships. The AED Foundation has been designated a “Standards Recognition Entity,” which means the foundation has been certified to oversee development of apprenticeship programs that meet the department’s standards. “It allows our member companies to work with the foundation in setting up apprenticeship programs instead of working with the Department of Labor,” said Brian P. McGuire, AED president and chief executive officer. He noted that some companies had been reluctant to work with the Labor Department because it meant inviting an enforcement agency into the place of business. Members also found the amount of paperwork required by the department to be daunting. “The standards for an apprenticeship program still will be high, but the process will be
less burdensome and when questions or concerns arise, dealers can call the foundation instead of the Department of Labor,” McGuire said. “Our hope is to make it a much easier process.” The foundation sought the certification after the Trump administration directed the department to look for ways third parties could develop apprenticeship opportunities. The department’s response was creation of what it calls “Industry-Recognized Apprenticeship Programs.” In this case, the AED Foundation will officially recognize dealership programs that develop farm equipment mechanics and technicians, bus and truck mechanics, diesel engine specialists and mobile heavy-equipment mechanics. The AED Foundation is one of the first industry associations to be certified. Other types of organizations eligible for the designation include unions, trade groups, nonprofits and state and local governments. The drive for more apprentices comes from the ongoing deficit of skilled workers in trades. Older-generation technicians and skilled labor are retiring and too few younger workers are succeeding them. McGuire said this new program is “not a silver bullet to fix
the skilled labor shortage. But it is another tool in the toolbox. It creates another pathway for a young person to become a technician and gives dealers a more successful pathway to having the techs they need.” AED planners have forecast the need for 70,000 more technicians by 2024 but can only identify how to develop 10,000. McGuire was asked if this new program will help offset the expected shortfall. “Time will tell, but here is my response: It can’t hurt. Whatever new pathways we can create for folks to obtain the skills necessary to be, say, a diesel tech, the better off we’ll be,” McGuire said. The AED Foundation has been accrediting two-year and four-year technical school programs for two decades. That experience plus the existence of 10 AED dealers with successful apprenticeship programs impressed Labor Department personnel. “The certification is a compliment to the AED Foundation and its board of directors,” McGuire said. “They had the foresight to apply and the fortitude to stick it out for two years.” The application process was shepherded by Jason Blake, AED Foundation’s vice-president and chief operating officer, who calls the
successful application “a team effort.” Blake said the pandemic will delay the roll out of the program until January or February. The delay is a matter of safety because setting up the dealerships “is a hands-on process” that will include in-person interviews of a dealer’s human resources people and trainers, an onsite needs assessment, a determination if a dealership needs additional equipment to fulfill program standards and so on. Eventually, the foundation will assign a director to oversee the program, according to McGuire. Until then, responsibility will be shared. Besides actively increasing the number of skilled technicians, the AED Foundation is trying to develop more skilled managers. Its Vision 2024 campaign encourages heavy equipment dealer management to become certified through AED programs. McGuire said more skilled personnel are needed in the industry from top to bottom. “We not only have a shortage of skilled technical workers, we have a shortage of folks to fill all the jobs in dealerships — parts managers, salespeople, other areas of management. We need to have people come into the industry and use our certification program to educate themselves.” CEG

Crews Expanding, Widening Red River County Highway By Irwin Rapoport CEG CORRESPONDENT
RK Hall LLC started work on the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) $14.2 million project to expand and improve U.S. 82 in Red River County in September 2019 and despite rains which had impacted the construction last winter, the general contractor is hopeful to meet the anticipated delivery date of September 2021. The construction zone along U.S. 82 from FM 1159, just east of Clarksville, eastward to the Red River-Bowie County line, covers approximately 17.8 mi. Crews are widening the existing pavement between the Kickapoo Creek bridge and FM 1699, approximately 4.5 mi., to install passing lanes; extend existing cross drainage structures; improve the bridge rail and metal-beam guard fence; install safety end treatments on culverts; and overlay a new pavement surface on the roadway. RK Hall and its crews are rehabilitating portions of the shoulders, approximately 9 ft. of the existing shoulder and 4.5 mi. where the passing lanes are overlapping. Crews already have completed the westbound section of the widening and the extension of the cross culverts in that area, as well the grading of the ditches to acquire better drainage for TxDOT’s right-of-way. All 17.8 mi. will receive a hot mix overlay towards the end of the project. “We are in the middle of working on the eastbound section,” said Zak Moore, RK Hall’s project manager, who noted that the current operations are within a 2-to-3 mi. area. “We did a lot of tree removal at the beginning to make sure no trees were going to compete with the new road that we’re building. That was actually quite a large change order for this job.” Project Challenges Discrepancies in the plans created a challenge. “Once we milled up some of the road, we found a concrete slab,” said Moore. “When this road was originally built, it had a concrete slab under it. We had a couple of problems with that due to the slab extending into where we were rehabilitating the shoulder, but this issue was handled. We have had some utility issues, which we are still fighting in some areas, but most of these issues were headed off early in the project. They were going to be a problem once we got to the eastbound side of the roadway, so we had the utility company go ahead and relocate these conflicting utilities.” Another major challenge was the subgrade on the westbound widening portion of U.S. 82. “It was unexpected,” said Moore. “We

Concours Club Shows Importance of Speedway Paving By Chuck MacDonald CEG CORRESPONDENT
For many people, from teenagers to senior citizens, the idea of tromping the accelerator of a hot car and going as fast as possible is invigorating. Perhaps just going fast is not enough. Showing off your skills might be even better. The best of both worlds is on display at the new speedway at The Concours Club in Miami. Of course, there’s a catch. You must be a member to use the track. Founding Memberships sold out at $350,000 each. The Club is accepting a limited number of membership applications. The initiation fee is $150,000 with $35,000 in annual dues. People who can afford the membership also can probably afford a high-performance car to drive at the track. High-performance driving requires a quality track; that’s why The Concours Club called on Advanced Materials Services (AMS) and Ajax Paving to design and build the track. Brian Prowell, principal engineer of AMS has supervised the construction of more than 30 racetracks, and Ajax Paving in Troy, Mich., has extensive experience in building speedways used by NASCAR. Precision paving was required when the track was built during February and March 2019. The costs of the completed project will be approximately $220 million. The Club called for a 2-plus mi. road course track to be built with multiple configurations. The speedway is similar to the course in Watkins Glen, N.Y., which Ajax also paved. The Concours Club course is not banked, so amateur drivers can test their skills and their vehicles, plus have a lot of fun in the process. Building a speedway has its own unique set of challenges that make it different from construction jobs on an interstate or state highway. “The quality on this job was one of the best of any project we’ve been a part of,” said Prowell. “While a normal freeway job must be concerned with sustaining the weight of trucks [downward forces], speedway paving has to be concerned with the shear [lateral forces] and stickiness of the racecar tires. The high speeds, wide tires and sharp turns demand a hard aggregate to maintain the pavement’s surface characteristics over time.” The smoothness of the track is vitally important. Where a slight bump on the freeway doesn’t matter to a semi or normal passenger car, the same bump can create problems for an expensive car hugging the road at high speed. “Smoothness of the track and uniformity of friction were critically important in the paving process,” said Prowell. “That’s one reason why we required quality granite for the coarse aggregate. Its hardness means that it does not lose friction over time as other aggregates might.”
The Concours Club speedway is more than 2 mi. of road course built with multiple configurations. The course is not banked, so amateur drivers can test their skills and their vehicles.
Prowell noted that Ajax Paving used a Vogele paver with a tamping bar screed to meet the high standards required for the job. “This paver pre-compacted the asphalt mix and helped the team build a smoother road and meet the high- density requirements,” said Prowell.
A worker adjusts the Vogele paver’s screed to help maximize smoothness for the finished track.
Long Trip From Michigan Ajax Paving trucked its equipment from the Detroit area, a trip of nearly 1,400 mi., because of the team’s confidence that the machines could do the job. The paving team also brought along a full-time mechanic in case of breakdowns. The tracks were constructed adjacent to the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport meaning noise restrictions were not a problem and permitting was greatly simplified. “Because smoothness was so important, we used a Weiler material transfer vehicle,” said Tim Hay, project manager of Ajax. “This guaranteed a steady flow of material into the paver and also meant that we would not have any trucks bumping the paver. That helps prevent segregation in the mix.” Ajax tried to keep delays minimized for the paver for days that started at 6 a.m. and ran until 5 p.m. The paving team produced a 20-ft.-wide new road. However, the speedway see CONCOURS page 24

The battery-powered AP plate series is available with or without a water tank for soil and asphalt compaction. Like the rammer, the plates offer a new solution for contractors and rental centers looking for a cordless, emission-free plate compactor for a variety of applications. These are the only single-direction plates on the market without a V-belt. The virtually maintenance-free electric motor is mounted directly on the baseplate, which requires fewer wear parts and reduces service time when compared to a gas or diesel engine, contributing to the low total cost of ownership. The battery-powered ACBe is a portable backpack vibration system that is ideal for the consolidation of thick interior concrete slabs with or without reinforcing steel. The three-part modular system consists of the backpack with integrated converter, the removable/replaceable battery and the internal vibrator. The on/off switch is easily accessible on the shaft and will shut off the motor in the head, but not the battery, which allows the operator to pause for 30 minutes during the consolidation process without needing to restart the battery. required a 40-ft.-wide road, almost double the width of two lanes of a traditional freeway. That meant a joint was created where the two new lanes met. Again, smoothness between the two “lanes” was crucial. “We cut into the joint vertically between the two lanes and applied sealer to bind the two lanes together tightly,” said Hay. “A poor joint can allow water to seep into the road and degrade the road over time as well as affect the smoothness.” The circuit was new construction and required approximately 30,000 tons of asphalt. The nearest airport runway was about one-half mi. away, which enabled the Ajax team to construct some unusual safety features. “We built some large run-off areas so that if a driver lost control on a turn, he could slow down safely,” said Hay. The Ajax paving team constructed the road in three stages — the first, a 2-in. base course, the second a 1.5-in. leveling course, the third, a 1.5-in. surface course. The base asphalt mix was the equivalent of a standard Superpave mix used in interstate work. The leveling and surface mixes were a specialty racetrack mix, somewhat similar to an airport mix, but with more polymer and adjusted to increase in-place density. Ajax took another unusual step in grinding down any bumps in the leveling course. “We believed that would help us to make the final course as smooth as possible,” said Hay. “In the end, we were able to meet all the smoothness requirements.” Another challenge for the designers of the speedway was contending with the intense heat generated by the tires’ friction with the road. “We used a mix that had a high polymer
liquid content so the road could handle the heat,” said Hay. With a normal mix, workers can rake loose asphalt into place to fix any imperfections. “That mix is hard to work with because it is so stiff.” For some of the tight turns, all the cars will be braking heavily, then making sharp turns at the same spot. The stiffer mix should prevent ruts from forming and the road deteriorating over time, according to Ajax. The Ajax team put the finishing touches on the road by running one set of rollers close behind the paver with the finish rollers further back. The team’s experience with speedways and outstanding performance from the equipment enabled them to meet all requirements. “Our guys were proud of this project,” said Hay. “It was great to know that we completed a job that not many paving teams are capable of doing.” Transporting Material The paving team relied on the steady production of asphalt from General Asphalt of Miami. The plant that produced the mix was just 10 mi. from the construction site. “The mix required 20 to 25 percent granite, which is not usually required by most Florida operations, so we needed to bring it in from Georgia,” said Albert Lopez of General Asphalt. “We also had to get the polymer required and have it available. We were able to meet the requirements for air voids and volumetric targets as required. “It was fun to be involved in a project like this,” added Lopez. “The amount of testing done was at least five times what is normally done. The experts challenged us, and we were able to deliver a mix to their exacting standards.” CEG

New Deere 700L, 750L Dozers Enhance Productivity, Reliability, Comfort in Cab Addressing the needs of the modern operator, the new John Deere 700L and 750L dozers feature improvements to productivity, reliability and operator comfort. Inspired by customer feedback, the updates include an all-new operator station, increased power levels, low-effort electrohydraulic (EH) controls and a suite of factory grade control solutions. “When developing the 700L and 750L, we leveraged feedback from contractors around the world. These next generation dozers are the most productive, reliable and easiest to operate yet,” said Nathan Horstman, product marketing manager, crawlers, John Deere Construction & Forestry. “These new models merge power and technology to deliver an easy-to-use, comfortable dozer that is built to run all day.” The 700L and 750L deliver more power than the previous K-Series models, boasting 135 hp(101 kW) and 175 hp (131 kW), respectively. As a result, both models have more power than any dozer in their respective size class, according to the manufacturer. The new crawler dozers are equipped with a six-cylinder, 6.8-L John Deere engine. Additionally, the 750L operating weight is increased by 750 lbs., providing more tractive effort and better balance to improve machine performance. The dozers are available with new, wider blade options, including a 161-in. option, the widest blade offered in the 750-size class. Integrated spill sheets on the 700L machine further increase blade capacity. Both dozers can be equipped with a new factory-installed slope control offering. Slope control makes grading easy by automatically maintaining the blade angle without the need for an external laser or GPS reference. This enables novice operators to be more accurate and veteran operators to hold grade with less effort. The slope control machines are also SmartGrade-ready, creating an easy upgrade path to a full 3D mastless system in the field. The new operator station is a ground-up redesign with a focus on visibility and operator comfort. Featuring 15 percent more volume and 14 percent larger door openings, the
new operator station is spacious and easy to access, and it offers better visibility to the blade. Standard ergonomically designed EH controls reduce operator fatigue and allow for effortless grade control installation in the field. Other comfort-boosting machine options include a premium heated and ventilated seat, rear camera and automatic temperature control, keeping operators comfortable even during long days. A new, 7-inch color monitor can interchange to show grade control information as well. Operator comfort is further improved through lower cabin sound levels on both models, including a 50 percent reduction in noise on the 700L versus the previous model. To increase uptime, these next generation dozers have optimized hydraulic hose and electrical harness routings to reduce the possibility of rub points. Additionally, hydraulic and hydrostatic oil change intervals are extended to 4,000 hours, reducing operating cost. For more information, visit www.JohnDeere.com.

Lea, who has spent his entire career in the agriculture and heavy equipment sales market, will manage the organization’s decentralized national sales team, while also working with the company’s product, production and engineering teams to help lead strategic product development and growth. During his time with Mahindra, Lea managed a team of nearly 30 sales leaders across North America accounting for $500 million in revenue. In addition to working closely with the team to reach sales and growth goals, Lea also was integral in launching inventory process improvement programs and developing various incentive programs for wholesale customers.
Larry Lea
“We’re excited to welcome Larry to the Thunder Creek team, where he can apply his extensive industry experience to strengthen both our sales team and our dealer network,” said Loren Van Wyk, owner and chief executive officer
of Thunder Creek. “He’s a proven winner who is motivated to use his competitive nature to drive us forward in both the agricultural, construction and commercial markets.” Lea will work directly with Thunder Creek’s sales team and dealer network to broaden Thunder Creek’s market penetration across the industries where its products are used. “I think my experience and competitive nature will make what is already a strong sales team even stronger and more strategic,” Lea said. “The reality is that when the sales team wins, the entire company wins, and so do our customers. I’m ready to do a whole lot of winning at Thunder Creek long into the future.” Lea will remain based in Houston, Texas. For more information, visit www.ThunderCreek.com.

Federal Approval Gives Texas Central High-Speed Rail Life, $20B Price Tag RAIL from page 1
Kirby-Smith Machinery www.kirby-smith.com
Webuild Chief Executive Pietro Salini. “Webuild's unique track record, especially in high-speed rail, will see us apply our expertise to this project that is important for sustainable mobility. As leaders of the design and build work, we are honored to have been given this unique opportunity to build a highspeed railway in Texas.” The two decisions are a crucial milestone for the start of work on the project, whose total investment is approximately $20 billion — an estimated $14 billion of which is for the civil works — will prove to be very important for Texas, especially in job creation. It is forecast to bring an estimated $36 billion in economic benefits during the next 25 years. The immediate impact is estimated to be more than $10 billion in the U.S. Construction, which Texas Central aims to start as soon as possible to help with the economic recovery following the COVID-19 crisis, and will lead to the creation of 17,000 direct jobs during the first six years of construction and more than 20,000 indirect jobs. Webuild brings its expertise in building megaprojects throughout the world with a track record of 8,473 mi. of rail and metro lines gained over the span of 114 years. The civil engineering work on the new high-speed railway between
Dallas and Houston includes the design and construction of the viaduct and embankment sections along the entire route, the installation of the track system and the alignment and construction of all the buildings and services that will house maintenance and other equipment. The railway, which will be 235.5 mi. long, will transform mobility between the two cities. It will be based on Central Japan Railway's Tokaido Shinkansen system, one of the world's safest mass transportation systems. It will carry travelers between Dallas and Houston — with a stop at Brazos Valley near the Texas A&M University — in 90 minutes, with departures every 30 minutes during peak hours and every hour during off-peak times. It is expected to be 90 minutes faster than car travel and one hour faster than air travel. Texas Central and its partners are committed to the Business and Workforce Opportunity programs, created to ensure a highly skilled workforce and promote the growth of small, rural, minority, woman, veteran and disabled individual-owned businesses in Texas by offering fair and competitive opportunities to bid and participate in building and operating the railway.

weather is not only protected from damage from freezing temperatures, but also meets or exceeds durability requirements for the intended service conditions. We will discuss ways to ensure concrete placed during cold weather achieves the desired strength in a short timeframe while also minimizing the extra costs associated with cold-weather concreting using some simple and inexpensive tools. Citing real-world examples, topics such as heated aggregates, embedded temperature and maturity sensors, protection measures, and air-entrainment will be explored, all with a focus on durability. As well as understanding what you have to do to place non-air-entrained concrete and the risks involved. ACI webinars are delivered by industry experts and feature popular concrete topics. The webinars and attendance certificates are administered through ACI University. They are also recorded for viewing at a later date. Both live and recorded versions offer continuing education credit.
