Work has rolled into its ninth month on a $23.2 million Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) project to reconstruct about 9.9 mi. of U.S. Highway 212 from Rockvale to south of Laurel. The stretch of highway is located within Carbon and Yellowstone counties. Funding is through state and federal sources.

The project requires excavation of 2.12-million cu. yds. of dirt and includes installation of about 28,000 ft. of various types and sizes of pipe and culvert for drainage.

The project that began in November 2016 and is expected to finish in August 2018, includes construction of a new road alignment. Crews will construct a twolane roadway, with intermittent four-lane segments between RP 42.5 and RP 52.5. The next and final phase will include four lanes, two in each direction, throughout segment. Workers also will construct the earthwork and drainage features

However, two large reinforced concrete box culverts will be installed. Improvements will be made to the road shoulders. Most of the shoulders will be 4-ft.-wide, but 8ft.-wide shoulders will be available in some sections of the road. The project started with grading,

Terex Hosts Gov. Fallin, Rep. Russell to Discuss Jobs It’s not very common for a governor and a congressman to brave a manufacturing factory in the middle of summer — especially when temperatures exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit — but Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin and Rep. Steve Russell did just that on July 21 when they visited the Terex facility to talk about manufacturing jobs in America. They were joined by John Garrison, CEO and president of Terex Corporation, and Dennis Slater, president of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). The visit was part of an event called “I Make America,” co-sponsored by AEM and Terex. Terex was chosen for this visit because it recently moved a significant portion of its manufacturing operations to its plant in Oklahoma. The facility boasts 700,000 sq.-ft. of operational space. Over the past two years, Terex has invested more than forty-million dollars into the facility, including the renovation of a largescale training center, as well as quality-of-life improvements, like the addition of atmospherically-tuned fans designed to keep team members cool. Russell attended a rally in the new training center, where they were able to speak to all Terex team members. During the question and answer period, one of the team members asked Gov. Fallin what can be done about workforce readiness in the state of Oklahoma — and beyond. “Manufacturing is not what grandfather’s manufacturing was,” Fallin said. “If you want to go into a nice company like this, you have to have some education and training and some work skills to get a job here.” Fallin said the nation must do a better job in providing the right work skills for today’s jobs. She said the solution is filling the middle skills gap. She explained that the middle skills gap is where a worker needs additional training beyond a high school diploma, but not a full college degree. She stated that by 2025, 77 percent of all American jobs will require additional education beyond high school. Russell said the Terex team members were proving the fact that there are jobs out there for people who want to learn the skills. Terex takes team member training seriously, and it shows. see JOBS page 26

Bridge Report: Ten Years After I-35W Collapse Aug. 1 marked the 10th anniversary of the I-35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis. The bridge was classified as “structurally deficient” and was undergoing repair at the time. The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) has looked at federal government data to see what progress has been made in repairing the nation’s bridges in the decade since the collapse. States have devoted significant resources to bridge work, ARTBA said. The value of bridge construction increased 39 percent, from $23.2 billion in 2007 August 1 marked the 10th anniversary of the I-35W bridge collapse. to $32.3 billion in 2016, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Cashman, Kiewit Enhance Safety With Cat Detect System By Kate Gallagher CASHMAN EQUIPMENT MARKETING COMMUNICATOR

How much is your safety worth to you? How much is the safety of your coworkers worth to you? Your employees? Fortunately, the answer in this day and age is typically, “Priceless.” The wearable technology industry has been placing a price on it, however. Every single day, companies are coming out with new wearable technology that enhances the personal safety of the individual. Just as often, other companies are purchasing that technology to help keep people safe on the job. John Deere High-Capacity Buckets Make Big Impact Designed to take advantage of the improved performance capabilities and boom design of the GSeries skid steers and compact track loaders (CTLs), John Deere now offers a 90-in. (228 cm) light material high-capacity bucket (LM90) as part of the ever-expanding lineup of Worksite Pro attachments. It features a high back for maximum capacity to cut through piles of snow, mulch or other light materials in large quantities, significantly reducing cycle times versus smaller size buckets, according to the manufacturer. “Customer feedback to the new G-Series machines has been extremely positive because they

are powerful and highly productive,” said Gregg Zupancic, product marketing manager, John Deere Construction & Forestry. “When equipped with a light material high-capacity bucket, that productivity is magnified, making these machines capable of working just as hard as a larger piece of construction equipment.” The new 90-in. light material bucket has a heaped capacity of 54 cu. ft. (1.5 cu m) and can carry more material per load than previous John Deere offerings. The increased width and high-back design reduces spillage and provides industry-leading capacity. An integrated step on the back of the

bucket also is included for easy entry and exit from the machine. With the universal, self-cleaning Quik-Tatch easy attachment system found on all John Deere skid steers, CTLs and compact excavators, the machine can easily add and remove the light material highcapacity bucket in seconds. The new attachment series also is backed by John Deere parts, service and warranty coverage. For more information, visit www.johndeere.com. John Deere now offers a 90-in. Following Debut, Vacuworx Renames Attachment as SL 2

Vacuworx’s SS 2, which debuted in February 2016, has a new name — the SL 2 subcompact vacuum lifting system.

Vacuworx’s SS 2, which debuted in February 2016, has a new name —the SL 2 subcompact vacuum lifting system. This new name is a small change, but the company feels it is best for positioning the product as it continues to gain interest around the world and is being utilized with more diverse host machines. The “ultimate skid steer attachment” was originally developed to meet the needs of a specific road plate application. Since being introduced at World of Concrete, the integrated system has met with widespread interest and enthusiasm in various industries. It was the first product introduced in the growing lineup of compact equipment attachments from Vacuworx. For concrete construction and demolition contractors in particular, the SL 2 is changing the game, offering a solution to common jobsite restrictions such as loud noise, debris and vibration. The vacuum lifting system also has proven effective for work inside buildings, tunnels and mines, according to the manufacturer. The original nomenclature, while synonymous with speed and performance in the United States, could potentially meet with resistance as the company expands its efforts in the European market. According to Vacuworx President and CEO Bill Solomon, “We feel it is prudent to change the name at this early stage in the product life. The performance of the SL 2 is exactly the same [as the SS 2], and for now no alterations have been made to the product itself.”

The Contractor’s MVP Lightweight and versatile, the SL 2 features all-aluminum construction. Weighing just 98 lb. (44 kg) without mounting plate, the vacuum lifting system has a lifting capacity up to 2,700 lb. (1,224 kg). The design features quick-connect hydraulic hoses and a factory pre-set flow control valve to ensure optimal performance. There are two mounting assembly options depending on the host machine: mini/walk behind subcompact equipment or standard skid steer-type machines. The SL 2 also is compatible with small excavators, backhoes and cranes using the clevis hook connection. The SL 2 operates using the auxiliary hydraulics from the host machine (minimum 10 gpm required with maximum 3,000 psi). The vacuum pump maintains a constant vacuum in the pressure reservoir. When activated, the system pulls a vacuum between the integrated 24 by 24 in. (61 by 61 cm) vacuum pad and the object to be lifted, providing a powerful positive seal. Vacuworx Tough Seal pad seal is used on the vacuum pad to cover the material to be lifted and create the necessary suction. The vacuum seal holds until the operator activates the release, even in the event of a power failure, according to the manufacturer. For more information, visit vacuworx.com. At its Aug. 7 meeting, the Oklahoma Transportation Commission heard that a recent industry report noted Oklahoma has eliminated the most structurally deficient bridges in the nation since 2007. Additional financial resources in the last decade have allowed the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to address scores of structurally deficient bridges, including replacing outdated SH-18 truss bridge over the Arkansas River between Pawnee and Osage counties with a modern structure.

Highlights of the Oklahoma Transportation Commission’s Aug. 7 meeting include a presentation on the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s new system for inspecting bridges after earthquakes, an update on improving bridge conditions and approval of contracts to replace a U.S.-412/U.S.-64 bridge near Keystone Dam in Tulsa County and rehabilitate bridges on SH-117 in Creek County and U.S.-69 in McIntosh County. Commissioners heard a detailed presentation on ODOT’s implementation of ShakeCast, a software program that uses state bridge and seismic data to help crews perform bridge inspections quickly and efficiently after earthquakes. Previously, ODOT crews were

checking all bridges within a pre-determined radius of an earthquake’s epicenter. Now after an earthquake, ShakeCast will automatically generate a priority order for bridge inspections based on several factors including bridge condition, age and proximity to an earthquake’s epicenter, seismic movement data and magnitude rating. Engineers with ODOT have noted that Oklahoma’s bridge infrastructure has withstood the increased number and severity of earthquakes in the last several years. Cosmetic damage was found after the 5.8-magnitude Pawnee quake in September 2016 and minor damage to U.S.-62 pavement occurred during a 5.6-magnitude earthquake near Prague in 2011.

Mike Patterson, Secretary of Transportation and ODOT executive director, also was encouraged by a recent report from the American Road and Transportation Builders Association that showed Oklahoma leading the nation in eliminating structurally deficient bridges. According to federal data cited by ARTBA, Oklahoma has addressed 2,458 structurally deficient highway and local bridges in the last decade, with California second at 1,861 bridges. The report coincides with the 10th anniversary of the collapse of the I-35 West bridge in Minneapolis, Minn., which called the nation’s attention to the structurally deficient bridge problem. see OTC page 32

ShakeCast Software Refines Bridge Inspection State bridge inspectors will be able to provide a faster, more targeted response in ensuring public safety the next time an earthquake rolls across Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is now implementing the use of ShakeCast, a program created by the U.S. Geological Survey. ShakeCast is in the final stage of a twoyear, two-phase, nearly $650,000 contract with Infrastructure Engineers Inc. of Edmond, Okla., to assist the department in developing an earthquake response protocol. Formalizing the plan, providing final training and an additional four years of system maintenance will conclude the contract. The ShakeCast program will enable the nearly 300 trained ODOT employees to quickly determine which bridges to inspect first after an earthquake. If conditions warrant, key

ODOT employees will receive a software-generated inspection priority order based on several factors including ODOT bridge data such as bridge condition, age and proximity to an earthquake’s epicenter, combined with USGS seismic movement data and magnitude rating. Previously ODOT visually inspected all bridges within 5 mi. of any earthquake epicenter between 4.4 to 4.7 magnitude. The inspection radius increased with the earthquake magnitudes. Generally, with a 4- to 5-magnitude earthquake no damage has been found. Going forward with ShakeCast, the inspections will identify only specific bridges susceptible to damage, allowing for a faster and more pinpointed response. “This technology is one of the biggest advances in ensuring see SOFTWARE page 32

Hawaii Will Receive $266M in Federal Funding for Various Military Projects HAWAII from page 1

“Our effort to secure more than $266 million in funding for Hawaii is well on its way,” said Schatz, lead Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. “I know how critical this funding is to Hawaii, to the success of our military, and to our national security, which is why I’m glad to see this bill clear this hurdle. I’m also pleased that this bill takes care of our veterans in Hawaii, showing that we can build for the future while also honoring those who made it possible. I look forward to seeing this bill pass the Senate and be signed into law soon.” Funding for Hawaii military construction projects in this bill is approximately $53 million over the enacted FY2017 bill. The bill provides $258.6 million to fully fund all of Hawaii’s military construction projects in the president’s budget. This includes: • $90 million for the Army’s Command and Control Facility at Fort Shafter; • $73.2 million for a sewer lift station and relief sewer line at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam; • $19.012 million for new MV-22 landing pads at Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Bay; • $65.864 million for a Communication/Crypto facility in Wahiawa; • $5.5 million for a consolidated training facility for the Air Force Reserve at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam; and • $5 million for the NSA facility at Kunia for improvements to its tunnel entrance. The bill also funds two Energy Resilience and Conservation Investment Program projects to improve ener-

gy security and water conservation at military installations in Hawaii. These projects include: • $6.2 million for HVAC upgrades at Kaneohe Bay; and • $1.4 million for salt water pumping system for the Navy at JBPHH. The legislation also includes a requirement that the Navy develop an investment strategy to improve each of the public shipyards, including Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard which the Navy has identified has an urgent requirement to extend Dry Dock 3 so that it can maintain fleet readiness in the Pacific. In addition to military construction, the bill provides $78.4 billion to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), $4 billion more than what was enacted in fiscal year 2017. In particular, the bill includes: • $110 million to fund VA’s grants for the construction of state extended care facilities, which will make progress toward funding a new 120-bed facility in Honolulu; • an additional $20 million for women veterans’ care, which will help ensure that the more than 13,000 women veterans in Hawaii have access to care; and • a mandate for the VA to develop a better construction plan to replace a Hilo community-based outpatient clinic, which has to be closed because it is in a tsunami risk zone. This bill will now be reported to the full Senate for consideration. (This story also can be found on Construction Equipment Guide’s website at www.constructionequipmentguide.com.)

Entrepreneur’s Global 200 List Ranks PIRTEK as Preeminent World Franchise PIRTEK USA, a leader in fluid transfer solutions, is the 65th most highly rated franchise in the world, according to a recent ranking by Entrepreneur magazine. Year after year, PIRTEK has been advancing steadily up the Entrepreneur rankings. In January, the publication announced that PIRTEK had moved up 64 places to the No. 173 spot in its Franchise 500 list. In only two years, the company has soared 249 places. The newly announced rank of 65 is part of Entrepreneur’s most recent Global 200 list. To arrive at the global ranking, the publication takes the Franchise 500 companies and factors in international size and growth, costs and fees, franchise support, stability

and other variables. “We’ve been ascending the rankings very quickly, thanks to the commitment and success of the business owners and team members,” said Glenn Duncan, executive director of PIRTEK USA. “It speaks well of our business model, and our efforts to open franchises that receive excellent training and corporate support. The new ranking also reflects the strong growth mode we’ve been in for the past year, which we plan to continue.” One of the initiatives responsible for PIRTEK’s recent growth is its Tier 2 franchise model, a mobile-only option. Under Tier 2, a franchisee can lease two vehicles and keep the inventory in a storage facility or warehouse. This allows the owner to start up a

PIRTEK location at a much lower point of entry. Tier 2 owners typically grow their franchises to Tier 1 Service Center locations within three years. The only franchise of its kind in the United States, PIRTEK provides hydraulic and industrial hose replacement sales and services. There are 70 PIRTEK franchises and a fleet of mobile service vehicles throughout the United States. Globally, PIRTEK has more than 400 locations and 2,000 mobile service vehicles in 23 countries. railroad underpass, and full reconstruction of the existing substandard two-lane roadway alignment at the northern end of the project corridor. The second phase project included intersection and roadway improvements for the intersection of U.S. 212 and U.S. 310 in Rockvale. The third-phase extends the highway from the railroad overpass to Rockvale. The new highway alignment will be on higher ground, west of the existing highway. “The new alignment was necessary due to the many homes, approaches, railroad and environmental impacts along the existing highway,” said Lori Ryan, public information officer of Montana Department of Transportation. “The intent of the project is

to provide a highway with increased capacity and built to today’s design standards. Ryan added that the old highway will remain open during and after construction. Nelcon Inc. is contractor for the thirdphase reconstruction work. Nelcon also was contractor for the second-phase U.S. 212 and U.S. 310 intersection work that included asphalt paving, pipe and dirt work. For Phase 3, Nelcon Inc. and its subcontractors have initially focused on grading, culvert installation, irrigation and fence construction. Subcontractors include Poteet Construction of Missoula, Mont.; Triptych Construction of Glide, Ore.; Fusion Technologies of Billings; Pavement Maintenance Solutions of Columbia Falls, Mont.; Kootenai Surveyors of Libby, Mont.;

The project that began in November 2016 and is expected to finish in August 2018, includes construction of a new road alignment.

JCT Construction of Ballantine, Mont. and Highmark Traffic Services of Billings. About 16 workers are on the job each day including six MDT inspectors and supervisors, and 15 workers employed by the prime contractor. Materials and Equipment Crews will apply a total of about 102,540 tons of plant mix concrete. The project requires excavation of 2.12million cu. yds. of dirt and includes installation of about 28,000 ft. of various types and sizes of pipe and culvert for drainage. Equipment at the construction site includes four scrappers, excavators, loaders, motorgraders, rock trucks, rollers, water trucks and bulldozers.

Irrigation System Challenges Crews A vast amount of irrigation work is part of the highway reconstruction project. It includes 25 irrigation structures and more than 11,000 ft. of irrigation pipe. Irrigation work must be done during the off-season between November and April, when much of the water is in the form of ice and snow. But heavy snow and frozen ground can be a challenge for construction crews. The justconcluded winter season was a tough one for irrigation work. It included deep snow and extreme-low temperatures that made it difficult to install irrigation systems. OTC Awards Contracts for Bridges, Highway Improvement OTC from page 18

“Ten years ago, we knew that Oklahoma had some of the worst bridges in the nation,” Patterson said. “Additional dedicated state funding for transportation since 2006 and the work ethic of this agency have helped us make huge improvements by replacing or rehabilitating thousands of bridges.” The commission voted to award a $7.5 million contract that includes financial incentives for early completion to replace the U.S.-412/ U.S.-64 bridge over SH-151 near the Keystone Dam in Tulsa County. The structure has required 12 emergency repairs to the bridge deck since 2014. The commission also approved contracts for rehabilitation of several bridges, including SH-117 at Rock Creek in Sapulpa and U.S.-69 at U.S.-266 in Checotah and a county road near Oktaha. Commissioners voted to award 15 contracts totaling more than $19 million to improve highways, roads and bridges in 12 counties. Contracts were awarded for projects in Alfalfa, Beckham, Cherokee, Cleveland, Coal, Creek, Custer, Haskell, Lincoln, McIntosh, Tulsa and Woods counties. A list of all awarded contracts may be found by visiting odot.org/contracts, selecting the July 2017 letting and clicking Go and then Award. The eight-member panel, appointed by the governor to oversee the state’s transportation development, awards project contracts for road and bridge construction every month. Due to the Labor Day holiday, the commission’s meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sept. 5. For more information, visit www.odot.org. public safety that I’ve seen in my 30-year career at the department,” said Casey Shell, ODOT chief engineer. “By comparing state bridge data with the severity of an earthquake’s ground motions, ShakeCast will allow us to inspect fewer bridges but with a much greater degree of confidence that we could quickly find any potential damage.” The consultant assisted the department with interfacing ODOT bridge inventory data with the ShakeCast software, developing bridge fragility models and disaster preparation plans, training and implementing the alert system for bridge inspectors. ODOT Bridge Engineer Steve Jacobi noted that Oklahoma transportation infrastructure has withstood the increased number and severity of earthquakes since 2010 with two instances of cosmetic damage found after the 5.8magnitude Pawnee earthquake in September 2016 and minor damage to U.S.-62 pavement after a 5.6-magnitude earthquake near Prague in 2011. “Bridges are designed to national standards, which includes the ability to withstand vibration,” Jacobi said. “Oklahoma’s bridges have weathered the increased seismicity very well, and our data shows that even our oldest state highway bridge designs are safe at the earthquake levels experienced to date. However, the department is committed to visual inspections to ensure public safety after larger magnitude earthquakes. If there is ever even the slightest question about a bridge’s safety, it would be imme-

diately closed until more thorough inspections could be completed.” While seismic activity seems to have lessened in the state, Oklahoma’s chances of earthquake-related bridge damage also are lessened thanks to the replacement of more than 900 structurally deficient bridges statewide since 2004. There remain 251 structurally deficient bridges on the state highway system and the majority of those are scheduled for replacement in the Eight-Year Construction Work Plan by the end of the decade. ODOT has joined nine other earthquake-prone states in a pooled-fund study with the USGS to help further enhance ShakeCast. Some of the states include Texas, Missouri and California and the study information will be used to develop future versions of the software. ODOT is contributing an additional $45,000 to the USGS in a three-year period to the study. The department has taken a lead role in developing response protocols to Oklahoma’s increased earthquake activity by working closely with other state agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which has 23 bridges on the state highway system. ODOT also shared its recently developed bridge inspection manual with other state agencies as well as local governments and will assist with local bridge inspections during earthquake response events as resources allow. Urbanization Creates Challenges in Crushing Business By Juhamatti Heikkilä SPECIAL TO CEG

Urbanization means faster and more numerous construction projects. This is good news for the crushing business, but it also brings along new challenges. Cost structures are changing, which makes it necessary for crushing to take place closer to the actual construction site. Simultaneously, crushing within cities is becoming more tightly controlled through environmental and safety regulations. We believe that sustainability and operational flexibility should and can be built into the same package. That’s why we made Lokotrack an urban citizen. Our customers have an increasing need for crushing operations close to densely inhabited areas, even in the centers of cities. Especially in fast-growing countries, where cities are quickly expanding and masses of people are moving closer to what would be considered traditional crushing sites, urban crushing is often a necessity. These operations are regulated by environmental permits that vary from country to country. When designing the new Lokotrack Urban, we wanted to simplify the answer to some of these key environmental and operational challenges with a single solution. Challenge 1 — Solving the origin of disturbances The main issues for crushing rock close to communities are noise and dust emissions. Areas with bad air quality have increasingly tight limitations for dust emissions, whereas long-term exposure to loud crushing noise, both for employees on site as well as people living nearby, leads to various health concerns. Solution: Since noise is one of the key issues, we decided to find the root cause that makes crushing noise disturbing. To do so, we collaborated with some of our local authorities, research organizations and private companies operating with acoustics and communal design. Our solution focuses particularly on the reduction of crusher noise, which makes the whole crushing operation less disturbing. Since noise protection mechanisms need to be as air-tight as possible, they also help to manage dust emissions.

The Lokotrack Urban

This is especially the case when combined with other dust prevention features, such as a high-pressure water spraying system. Challenge 2 — Transportability and making operations easy Noise and dust are not the whole story. One common target for most operators is to limit the need for transportation. In the worst-case scenario, demolition waste from construction and rock from quarries are transported back and forth. This leads to hundreds of truckloads, increased transportation costs, more traffic and emissions — and even delays in construction projects. Many quarry operators also work in multiple sites, and equipment may need to be moved several times a week. Solution: A machine designed for shortterm use must be both robust and compact. We decided to utilize proven technology — but to add new noise and dust protection features to build a unique machine. As the base

technology, we chose LT106, one of our most widely used mobile crushing plants in the market. We paid special attention to make it as easy to maintain as possible. If needed, Urban can be “packed up” for transportation in only 15 to 30 minutes. The compact machine is also easy to move around within the same site. Ideally, aggregates can be used in the same location to completely avoid hauling. Challenge 3 — Beating the regulations When operation is planned for a limited period of time, using mobile equipment is often the most ideal choice. With mobile plants, however, it doesn’t make sense to invest in the same added protection mechanisms as with stationary plants. Therefore, it may prove difficult to comply with the environmental permit regulations. Solution: Urban has all the necessary features built in to fulfill these regulations. Feedback we have received from the field

supports the fact that using Urban has a positive impact on the permit process, especially when it comes to getting a short-term permit. Can Urban Crushing Change the Way We Build Infrastructure for Good? Whether crushing closer or farther away from cities, demands will continue to increase for smoother, safer and more sustainable crushing operations. Regulations as well as cost structures are changing, and equipment too must support these developments. We at Metso are ready to take the challenge. Feel free to contact our experts and join the conversation at Metso Lokotrack channel in Facebook. Juhamatti Hiekkilä is manager, product safety of Metso Corporation.

Terex Launches Aquaclear Water Management Solutions Terex Washing Systems (TWS) announced the introduction of Terex AquaClear, water management solutions, as part of TWS product offerings. TWS Director Oliver Donnelly said, “It really is an exciting time for TWS and we are delighted to be able to offer an end-toend solution for washing and water management from TWS, a single supplier. We are launching a full range of water management products to include clarifying tanks, flocculent dosing systems, filter presses and all associated equipment to provide a one stop solution.” Efficient Water Solutions Water Management Solutions are made up from three main components; a floc dosing plant and thickener tank can be used to recycle up to 80 percent of the water used in the washing process. This basic method still involves the use of ponds but on a smaller scale as the sludge sent to the ponds is of a much higher specific gravity (1.5 sg). The next stage is to incorporate a filter press which hydrates this thickened sludge even further, typically down to 25 percent moisture. The filter press eliminates the need for ponds as the sludge is hydrated to a material/cake,

GrinderCrusherScreen Unveils Product Reduction Technology GrinderCrusherScreen Inc. introduced a unique product reduction technology called “TKV,” short for Tornadic Kinetic Vortex, nicknamed “Tornado in a Can.” This technology has been in existence for years; however, the price has made it out of reach, until now. After much product development, GrinderCrusherScreen is promoting the “TKV” as its choice of technologies for a secondary grinder for many applications where a fine material is needed “TKV” can take bark nuggets to powder, unscreened compost to a fine highly desired material, roofing shingles to a fine grade recycled material, MSW to fluff, glass to sand or powder and manure to fertilizer. Company representatives say that this technology is like having a tornado pass material through an 8’-0 nonagon steel structure with ¾” steel walls. The destruction is vast, and it rivals sticking a tornado inside a nine-sided structure where the devastation is magnified and devastating. The flying material is quickly reduced by hitting each other and by slamming into the nine walls. Unlike traditional grinders where the hammers and tips do the grinding, in this technology the machine is creating vortexes. The result of the vortexes is material reduction. The result is considerably lower operating costs, less wear on the machine and a more economical way to process. GrinderCrusherScreen is promoting the GCS Tornadic Kinetic Pulverizer as a secondary processor able to accept 12 in. minus material. Regardless of the material, GrinderCrusherScreen recommends the use of a shredder with a magnet for primary shredding, and the “TKV” for the finishing work. The “Tornado in a Can” technology gives customers the ability to produce considerably finer material than traditional equipment. For more information, call GrinderCrusherScreen at 770433-2670. Junjin America’s Success Continues With Rock Commander The Rock Commander line of rock drills from Junjin America continues its strong penetration in the North American drilling market. With many units working across the United States, and more units on the way, the Rock Commander line of drills is poised to be a major player in the near future, according to the company. The reliability, ease of maintenance, parts availability and reasonable price make the units easy to own, operate and maintain for anyone, from an owneroperator to a major quarry or construction operation. Industry tested and proven core components make up the heart of the Rock Commander JD1400E. The power is supplied by an 8.3 liter Cummins engine. The Bosch/Rexroth pumps, manufactured to precise specifications, are an industry standard, and customers can rely on the GHH Rand 400 CFM compressor, according to the company. Finally, the industry proven and powerful Yamamoto drifters enable customers to put more holes in the rock while being simple and relatively inexpensive to maintain. The Rock Commander’s design is straightforward and simple. Drilling computers and expensive PLC units are nowhere to be found on the Rock Commander. Its proven systems can be maintained without

the need for technicians with computers and long delays waiting for electronic parts. The customer’s needs are the foremost concern of Junjin America. The JD1400E continues its success with several customers ordering additional units to update their fleets. Options for the JD1400E include water suppression, YH135 or YH80A Drifter and a longer mast length option, which is also being developed for future units. Utilizing these options, customers can tackle just about any drilling job. Early in 2016, the first JD800ENC was introduced to the United States. The JD800ENC provides the same simple and efficient systems found in the JD1400E in a smaller non-cab model of drill. It is powered by a Cummins Power-pack and utilizing the proven YH80A Drifter. This unit is equipped to fill the need for a low-cost, reliable site preparation drill. The standard long mast configuration allows the use of a 20-ft. starter rod followed by additional 12-ft. rods if needed. For more information, call Junjin America or Larmee Equipment at 502/244-0004. Lokotrack® ST2.8™ exceeds expectations in making a clean cement additive That’s how we make the big difference, the Metso Way.

A Lokotrack ST2.8 mobile scalping screen is helping a cement plant produce a clean additive for its production process, resulting in significant cost savings. The operator is saving up to $20 a ton by producing the additive using the ST2.8, rather than buying it from an outside source. The Lokotrack ST2.8 has a larger throw than most machines in its size class, which allows it to produce a cleaner end product. The unit’s powerful Caterpillar C4.4 diesel engine meets the latest emissions standards, and a new hydraulic system helps to reduce fuel consumption. Find out more about profitable mobile screening at metso.com/showroom/aggregates #TheMetsoWay
