new educational facility was held on Oct. 10 on the University’s Ogden campus to celebrate the milestone. Big-D Construction was awarded the project in 2019 and commenced construction on site in March 2020, during the same month the World Health Organization
declared coronavirus a global pandemic. “When we started the Noorda Weber State project we were met with a lot of challenges and unknowns,” said Big-D Companies Executive Chairman Rob Moore. “Despite those obstacles, we not only completed the Noorda project on time
and within budget, but navigated through Covid safely while facing labor shortages, material pricing spikes and material extended deliveries, which in my 46-year career at Big-D, I have never experienced before. I’m extremely proud of our team and all those see ENGINEERING page 6

Equipment Sales Incorporated Keeps It In the Family By focusing on old fashioned values, Equipment Sales Incorporated plans to continue the vision of the company founder, Bill Lindsey. Now under new management, Conley Lindsey looks to continue the legacy his father Bill set up for Equipment Sales of character and hard work. Equipment Sales Inc. has been owned by Bill Lindsey for more than 50 years. The company was founded in 1969 and then in 2022 ownership was transferred to Conley, Bill’s eldest son. Conley Lindsey grew up at Equipment Sales, to which he worked and watched his dad build the company into what it is today. Located just off of Interstate 15 in South Salt Lake, this 53-yearold business has held its own in a high trafficked prime location.
Most importantly, Conley mentions, “You do what you say you are going to do.” It’s essential to Conley to continue the family business and that, “even though he may be a new owner, it is still a family run business, continuing to provide great service to all their customers.” Conley is keeping it a family business; he grew up with the company and looks forward to working with his family and passing down the legacy. Funds Will Fix 40 Bridges The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) recently announced the first round of grants from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s competitive Bridge Investment Program. These early planning grants, going to 23 projects in 23 states, will help fund early phases of project development to create a pipeline of bridge construction projects, one of many ways in which the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will help build, repair and replace tens of thousands of bridges in communities across the country. The Utah Department of Transportation will receive $800,000 for a feasibility study to inspect and identify treatment needs for 40 bridges along a 31-mi. stretch of I-84 in rural Utah. “Bridges represent more than just their physical structures — they connect people and communities and make it easier to go about our daily lives,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “These grants will help communities across the country move forward to modernize their bridges and make it easier for people and goods to move quickly, reliably, and safely to their destinations.” In total, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Bridge Investment Program will
make the single largest dedicated investment in bridges — $12.5 billion over five years, with nearly $2.4 billion available in Fiscal Year 2022 — since the construction of the Interstate highway system. “Across the nation, the Biden-Harris Administration is making historic investments in thousands of bridges, which often serve as a community’s or region’s most important transportation link,” said Deputy Transportation Secretary Polly Trottenberg. “These Bridge Planning Grants will be used to create a pipeline of future bridge construction projects to improve safety, add or improve multimodal access, support economic competitiveness and to provide resilient highway infrastructure that is better able to withstand the effects of climate change.” “The Bridge Planning program will help create a pipeline of bridge projects that can potentially be awarded construction grants during the implementation of President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,” said Acting Federal Highway Administrator Stephanie Pollack. The full list of proposed awards can be found on the FHWA web site: https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/bridge/bip/planninggrants2022/
