In North Carolina, a $1.8 billion project that includes approximately 7 mi. of interstate improvements is gaining momentum. The Asheville I-26 Connector project will widen existing I-26/I-240, build a new interstate alignment across the French Broad River and upgrade several interchanges. “It will modernize a transportation corridor that no longer meets today’s traffic demands,” North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT)

communications officer Stephanie Johnson told Construction Equipment Guide. “Much of the existing interstate and interchange system was built decades ago and is experiencing increased congestion and aging infrastructure.” The I-26 Connector will enhance connections between I-26 south of Asheville and U.S. 19/23/70 north of the city, while separating interstate traffic from local traffic in the downtown area. see NCDOT page 40

Tennessee Advances $9.2B I-24 Choice Lanes Project Tennessee is advancing a $9.2 billion project to add optional lanes to approximately 26 mi. of Interstate 24 between Nashville and Interstate 840, with a public-private partnership expected to finance, build and maintain the improvements. According to an Aug. 19 announcement from Gov. Bill Lee, the state’s Transportation Modernization Board approved DriveTN as the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) selected private-sector partner for the I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes project. The proposal also is projected to generate $24.8 billion in concession value for Tennessee, which could be used to support additional transportation infrastructure projects across the state. DriveTN includes Cintra, Transurban, Tikehau Star/ Infra/Capital, Ferrovial, Webber and AECOM. Under the proposed arrangement, the partnership would design, build, finance, operate and maintain the project. TDOT will work with DriveTN and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Build America Bureau to finalize an agreement, according to the governor’s office. The proposal represents what the state describes as the largest public-private partnership concession to date for an interstate Choice Lanes project in the United States.

Additional Lanes for I-24 The project calls for new Choice Lanes in each direction along I-24 between Nashville and I-840. Existing generalpurpose lanes will remain available to motorists, while drivers will have the option of using the additional lanes for a faster, more reliable trip. According to TDOT’s Choice Lanes program information, the additional lanes use pricing to manage demand and help maintain more consistent travel speeds when adjacent lanes are congested. The agency describes the concept as different from a conventional toll road, where motorists are required to pay to use the roadway. TDOT said Choice Lanes typically are designed to maintain speeds of approximately 45 mph during rush-hour periods, even when traffic in existing lanes is moving slowly or has stopped. The program also is intended to reduce congestion-related idling, improve air quality and provide more reliable travel times for transit buses. Revenue collected from drivers using the optional lanes can help offset project costs, according to TDOT. Design Aims to Limit Community Impacts The state’s procurement process challenged prospective partners to deliver financial value while minimizing impacts on surrounding communities and improving transportation connections throughout the corridor. According to the governor’s announcement, DriveTN proposed a net reduction in overall right-of-way impacts, avoiding impacts to Noble Place Townhomes and redesigning Bell Road to avoid impacts to the Pan-Asia Supermarket. The proposal also eliminates the need to rebuild the Hickory Hollow Parkway Bridge. Additional commitments include improved access and connectivity throughout the corridor, park-and-ride facilities and support for future transit integration. “The responsibility now is to verify the commitments, complete the required reviews, finalize the agreement and deliver as promised,” TDOT Commissioner Will Reid said in the announcement. The Transportation Modernization Board also authorized

further development of three potential corridor enhancements. These include a northern extension along I-24 and I-65 through downtown Nashville, an eastern extension along I-40 beyond Nashville International Airport and a southern extension along I-24 through Murfreesboro and I-840 toward U.S. 41. According to TDOT, Choice Lanes are being evaluated in Regions 1, 2 and 3 as part of broader efforts to address urban congestion. Additional projects remain in early development, with feasibility studies and discussions with potential privatesector partners helping determine which corridors could support the approach. The I-24 project advances under Tennessee’s Transportation Modernization Act of 2023, which established a framework for innovative transportation delivery and private-sector partnerships. The state said the next step is to complete the TDOT graphic necessary reviews and finalize the agreement before moving Tennessee is advancing a $9.2 billion project to add forward with project delivery. optional lanes to approximately 26 mi. of Interstate For more information, visit tn.gov/tdot/projects/region-3/ 24 between Nashville and Interstate 840. interstate-24-choice-lanes-.html.  CEG

Ascendum Machinery Opens New Facility in Conway, S.C. Ascendum Machinery has expanded its presence in South Carolina with a new facility in Conway, S.C., providing contractors and equipment operators in the Conway and Myrtle Beach areas with more direct access to parts, service and technical support. Completed in the first quarter of 2026, the location at 2578 Unit A Highway 378 represents Ascendum Machinery’s first branch in the Conway/Myrtle Beach market. The addition brings the company’s total number of South Carolina branches to four, expanding its coverage beyond its existing locations in Charleston, Columbia and the Piedmont region. “Our goal with this facility is to be closer to our customers and provide them with the parts, service and technical support to increase customer uptime and make their business more productive,” said Chad Tackett, South Carolina general manager of Ascendum Machinery. According to Ascendum Machinery, establishing a physical presence in the Conway market was an important step in providing customers with dedicated, ongoing parts and service support. The new location is intended to help contractors minimize equipment downtime, keep projects moving and access support closer to their job sites. Service, Parts, Rental Support Although the Conway facility occupies a shared space, it includes a five-bay service shop, a parts warehouse and ample yard space to support equipment and service operations. The branch is a full-line facility, offering Ascendum Machinery’s complete product lineup, along with a full-line rental offering. The company distributes Volvo Construction Equipment and other equipment brands, including SENNEBOGEN, Sandvik,

Bobcat Portable Power, LeeBoy, Bergmann and Gradall. Parts availability is another focus of the expansion. Ascendum Machinery is building its inventory weekly while prioritizing parts for equipment already operating in the territory. By stocking parts relevant to machines working in the region, the company aims to improve access to needed components and help customers return equipment to service more quickly. Strengthening Its Regional Coverage The Conway location is part of Ascendum Machinery’s broader investment in the

markets it serves. By establishing a local facility, the company can combine its regional resources and equipment expertise with more accessible support for customers along the South Carolina coast. Ascendum Machinery plans to host an open house at the Conway facility in early 2027, giving customers and members of the local construction community an opportunity to visit the location. Headquartered in Huntersville, N.C., near Charlotte, Ascendum Machinery distributes construction equipment and provides new, used and rental equipment, parts, service and support solutions throughout the Southeast. Deutz Corporation has relocated its Deutz Power Center Florida – North operation to a larger facility at 7035 Davis Creek Rd. in Jacksonville. Located approximately 10 mi. southeast of the Power Center’s former location at 8999 Western Way, the new facility provides additional space to expand service capacity, increase local parts availability and better support customers throughout northern Florida. “Our customers depend on us to help keep their equipment up and running, and having the right facility is an important part of making that happen,” said Jim Harlow, territory branch manager. “This larger location gives us more room to service equipment, expand our parts inventory and provide the responsive, hands-on support Deutz customers have come to expect.” Deutz Power Center Florida – North supports OEM partners, dealers and end users with the service, parts and technical expertise needed to maximize equipment uptime and productivity. Unlike traditional engine-only service locations, Deutz Power Centers are equipped to service the entire machine, giving customers a single source for comprehensive equipment support. The Jacksonville location offers a fully stocked parts counter, scheduled maintenance, emergency repairs and both in-shop and field service. Qualified technicians support all makes and models and can address hydraulics, electrical systems, cooling systems, diagnostics and other equipment needs. “As our customers’ equipment and support needs continue to evolve, we want to ensure our Power Centers have the resources and capacity to respond,” said Tony Muzzin, regional service sales manager – East, Power Center operations. “Our customers need their equipment working in the field, not sitting idle in a shop. This investment in northern Florida expands our ability to deliver the service, parts and technical expertise they need to minimize downtime and keep their operations moving.” For more information, visit Deutzsupport.com and DeutzAmericas.com. 

lanchard Machinery opened its new South Columbia parts and service facility on Oct. 5, 2026, expanding the company’s capacity to support customers throughout South Carolina and the surrounding region. Located on a 62 acre campus at 251 15th St. in Gaston, S.C., the 196,000-sq.-ft. facility brings parts, machining, hydraulic service, rebuild, welding, training and customer support operations together under one climate controlled roof. The facility represents a major expansion beyond Blanchard’s existing Columbia campus and is designed to serve as a centralized support hub for the company’s branch network across the state. “We believe this facility will become one of the largest and most technologically advanced Caterpillar parts, service and rebuild facilities in the Southeast, helping us support customers throughout South Carolina and the surrounding region for decades to come,” Brad Fultz, chief operating officer of Blanchard Machinery, told Construction Equipment Guide. Groundbreaking took place April 7, 2025. Substantial completion and possession followed in late July 2026. The facility provides approximately 1.5 million cu. ft. of warehouse capacity and includes infrastructure already in place for future expansion. Designed Around Workflow One of the defining features of the new facility is its assembly line approach to heavy equipment service. Rather than separating key operations across disconnected buildings, Blanchard designed the facility so parts, machining, hydraulic service, repair, rebuild and customer support functions can operate sequentially under

The company’s 30-year history includes growth, changing markets and economic challenges, but its focus on products, customers and employees has remained the key to its success.

Thirty years ago, HydrauliCircuit Technology (HCT) began with a dream, a garage and a determination to build better hydraulic kit solutions for heavy construction equipment. Founded by David Perry in 1996, HCT started as a small, hands-on operation. Perry designed, built and sold custom auxiliary hydraulic kits with a simple philosophy: Build better products, stand behind them and take care of the customer. That foundation has grown into a company serving customers throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and South America. HCT has become one of North America’s leading privately owned manufacturers of excavator hydraulic kits, guards, coupler kits and engineered hydraulic solutions. The company’s 30-year history includes growth, changing markets and economic challenges, but its focus on products, customers and employees has remained the key to its success.

aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001, the 2008 global financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. Each period required the company to adapt while maintaining its focus on customers and employees. In 2009, during the financial crisis, HCT moved into a new facility that provided three times the space for manufacturing, installations, engineering and future expansion. “HCT started with a vision in a garage and grew into a much larger operation. As the market and machines changed, HCT adapted to meet the demand,” said Bryan Foote, coupler division supervisor. People Behind Products While HCT’s products and facilities have changed, its employees remain central to the company. The workforce includes employees with experience in heavy equipment, engineering, manufacturing, installation, troubleshooting, sales and product support. Many have spent years or decades with the company. Steve Lindler, product support manager and one of HCT’s earliest employees, joined the company in 2000, when it had six employees. Four of those original six remain with HCT.

Humble Beginnings, Growing Vision In HCT’s early days, nearly every hydraulic kit and machine presented a new challenge. The company grew by listening to customers, solving problems and developing products designed for real-world applications. “By aligning our technical capabilities directly with client needs, we turned every hurdle into a win,” said Dan Fields, sales coordinator and technical sales representative and Perry’s first employee. “We have grown since I started in 2006, and we remain a custom hydraulic kit manufacturer at heart; every project and machine is still a unique adventure,” said Huelon Perry, HCT’s shop manager. As the company grew, its products became more specialized and engineered for specific machine makes and models. Manufacturing processes became more efficient, technology improved and HCT expanded its capabilities to keep pace with increasingly sophisticated equipment. “We have never lost who we are. Our team is tightknit, and we take pride in our workmanship and customer HCT photo experience,” Huelon said. HCT specializes in fully integrated hydraulic kits

“Employees are the company and always will be. More than 35 percent of our employees have been here 10 years or more,” Lindler said. That longevity has helped HCT maintain its close-knit culture as the company has expanded. “We’ve grown and changed while keeping the close-knit family atmosphere that makes us who we are,” said Heidi Dover, purchasing manager, who has been with HCT for 21 years. Employees across the company share responsibility for quality, problem-solving and customer service, helping HCT respond to changing equipment and customer requirements.

Customers First Customer service has been a central part of HCT’s business since its founding. The company works with OEMs, equipment dealers, rental companies, attachment manufacturers, contractors and end users to develop hydraulic solutions for field applications. “We focus on taking care of our employees like family, knowing that when our team is supported, they take outstanding care of our customers,” said Navin Baliga, president of HCT. “We’ve stayed dedicated to being there for them, sunup and sundown,” Foote said. That approach has helped HCT build long-term customer engineered for specific excavator makes and models. relationships by providing components, technical support The kits support attachments including hydraulic and installation solutions.

Growth Through Challenges HCT’s growth has included its share of challenges, hammers, thumbs, grapples, compactors, demolition including recessions, changing market conditions, the shears, magnets, mulchers and processors.

Future Workforce

Caterpillar Inc expanded its workforce commitment to N.C., the most recent investment for its five-year, $100 million Building the Future Workforce Initiative. With an allocation of up to $10 million, the funding aims to prepare current and future workers for jobs in modern manufacturing and industry technician roles. “Investing in people is essential to building the workforce advanced manufacturing will need for the future,” said Christy Pambianchi, Caterpillar’s chief human resources officer. “North Carolina’s growth creates an opportunity to help more people build the skills they need for careers in manufacturing and strengthen the workforce that will support the industry for years to come.”

Why North Carolina? As a critical manufacturing hub, N.C. is a natural fit for this investment. Caterpillar employs more than 3,600 people in North Carolina, has a strong dealer network and works with 325 suppliers across the state. “North Carolina is home to the largest manufacturing workforce in the Southeast, and Caterpillar recognizes what our state brings to the table,” said Gov. Josh Stein. “I thank Caterpillar for its long-standing partnership and look forward to more economic opportunity coming to Sanford.” Caterpillar recently announced plans to invest approximately $1 billion in North Carolina to expand manufacturing capacity for products that support its growing Cat Compact™ business, which provides compact equipment solutions for Caterpillar logo small contractors and growing businesses. The investment includes plans for a new modern manufacturing facility in Sanford, designed to increase production of compact track loaders and telehandlers to meet customer demand. The project supports the company’s Cat Compact approach, focused on making its equipment and solutions easier for customers to access. Also in N.C., Caterpillar’s Clayton facility manufactures small wheel loaders and supports the distribution of backhoe loaders. Together, these operations help Caterpillar serve customers while advancing manufacturing excellence, innovation, workforce development, and economic growth across the state. Caterpillar is collaborating with leading N.C. organizations, like Central Carolina Community College and the Sanford Area Growth Alliance, to advance the Building the Future Workforce Initiative. The program aims to expand handson manufacturing pathways for students, mobilize employer engagement across the region and provide individuals with Schweiss photo access to affordable, relevant training that leads to career advancement. 

Cat’s New D11 XE Electric Dozer Upgrades Major Systems The new Cat D11 XE electric drive dozer is designed to help customers move more material efficiently while helping control fuel consumption and operating costs. Delivering up to 25 percent less fuel consumed per unit of material moved and moving 5 percent to 10 percent more material per hour than the next generation Cat D11. Its electric drivetrain has 60 percent fewer moving parts than a mechanical drive system, helping simplify service and lower owning and operating costs over the life of the machine, according to Caterpillar. Helping drive the D11 XE’s productivity, efficiency and durability improvements are upgrades throughout the machine’s powertrain and major systems. The Cat C32B engine operates at a lower high-idle speed to help the D11 XE deliver up to 20 percent longer life between rebuilds than the D11. The result is the most efficient and productive D11 model to date, consuming up to 20 percent less fuel per hour and producing 20 percent to 25 percent fewer greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, added the company. Designed to improve efficiency while reducing drivetrain complexity, the electric drive system eliminates the bevel gear used in mechanical drive systems. The engine drives a generator that sends power through an inverter to two motors, delivering clean, consistent power to the tracks. “The D11 XE is designed to help customers get more from every hour of operation,” said Luke Fischer, product application specialist for Caterpillar. “By combining the proven capability of the D11 platform with the benefits of electric drive, it delivers meaningful gains in productivity, efficiency and lifecycle value. It also reflects how far dozer performance has advanced, offering up to 25 percent greater efficiency than today’s D11 and up to 40 percent greater efficiency than the first D11N introduced in 1986.” Easier Operation With no gears to shift, the D11 XE electric drive system simplifies operation. A dedicated drive motor at each track provides power-turn capability for strong maneuverability and pryout force. By powering both tracks throughout the turn, the system enables smoother maneuvering and helps operators push more material through the turn, according to Caterpillar. The suspended undercarriage absorbs impact and reduces shock load transfer to the undercarriage by up to 50 percent, added Cat. Accessible, low-effort electronic steering, ripper and dozer controls support precise maneuvering, while the primary multifunction touchscreen gives operators a clear view of machine performance and convenient access to operating settings. Lower Total Cost of Ownership The electric drive generator and motors are designed to last through two machine lives with only rebearing and resealing, reducing the investment required during every other rebuild. A modular design allows major components to be removed independently, helping streamline service and minimize downtime. “Together, these design choices mean fewer service touches and more time available for productive work,” said Fischer. A new radiator guard and upgraded case and frame help improve durability, extend machine life and reduce maintenance downtime, according to Cat. Larger lift-cylinder trunnion bearings simplify service. Redesigned pin joints with replaceable bearings eliminate the need for line boring

and simplify bearing-insert replacement on the ripper, blade and push-arm trunnions. Proven D11 Performance Integrated solutions help D11 XE operators work more efficiently. Available onboard features include: • AutoCarry provides automatic blade control during the carry segment to reduce fatigue, help maintain optimum track slip and increase productivity by up to 15 percent. • 3D Grade Control uses dual ROPS-mounted GNSS antennas and blade-mounted inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors to precisely position the cutting edge without blade-mounted masts or cables. • Automated Blade Assist (ABA) uses standard dual-tilt

capability to automate blade movement to key pitch positions, helping increase efficiency and reduce operator workload. • Automatic ripper control automatically adjusts engine speed and ripper depth to maximize productivity, minimize track slip and reduce machine wear. The D11 XE can also be equipped with MineStar solutions. Command for dozing offers multiple levels of remote control and semi-autonomous operation, allowing the operator to work away from the cab. Terrain capabilities help reduce fuel use and rehandling through automated functions and blade overcut protection. Terrain for grading provides guidance such as bench heights, cycle times and material cut- and-fill volumes to help operators improve machine efficiency. 

NCDOT Project Widens I-26/I-240, Upgrades Interchanges NCDOT from page 1

“The project will also replace aging bridges and improve local street connections,” said Johnson. “Together, these improvements will create a safer, more efficient transportation network that will serve western North Carolina for decades.” Archer-Wright Joint Venture is constructing both the north and south sections of the I-26 Connector. The team was selected through NCDOT’s competitive bidding process and has experience delivering complex transportation projects. Johnson noted that now is a good time to perform the work. “This project has been in development for many years, and has completed the planning, environmental review and design process. With funding in place and contracts awarded, we’re able to move forward with construction. Advancing the project now allows us to replace aging infrastructure, while improving mobility for the region’s future.” Major work on the north section officially began this past spring with the project’s groundbreaking. Although some initial activity took place beforehand, April marked the start of full-scale construction. The project remains on schedule for completion in 2031. Johnson explained the extreme price tag reflects the size and complexity of the work. “The I-26 Connector includes interstate improvements, new roadway on a new location, interchange reconstruction, multiple new bridges and improvements to local roads. It also requires extensive grading and excavation to build the new roadway and prepare the site for construction.” The I-26 Connector is divided into multiple phases, allowing work to move forward as funding, design and environmental approvals are completed. “Construction is currently under way on the north and south sections,” said Johnson. “Other portions of the overall project remain in various stages of planning and development.” As for unavoidable detours and delays, Johnson said, “Keeping people moving safely is one of our top priorities. Drivers will continue to see periodic lane closures, traffic shifts and occasional ramp closures as construction progresses. Whenever possible, we schedule the most

The project demands a wide range of equipment, depending on the work taking place.

disruptive work during off-peak or overnight hours. We encourage motorists to stay alert, follow posted signs and check for project updates before traveling through the area. “We understand that construction can be inconvenient, especially on a corridor that so many people rely on each day. While drivers are adjusting to changing traffic patterns, many also recognize the need for these long-term improvements. We appreciate the public’s patience, and will continue providing timely updates, so people know what to expect.” Johnson added, “It’s exciting to see years of planning become visible progress. This project has been discussed for decades, and people are finally seeing major construction take shape. Every bridge, roadway improvement and traffic shift brings us one step closer to delivering a safer, more efficient transportation system for western North Carolina.” The project has required unique work in and around the French Broad River, the third oldest river in the world and one of Asheville’s most popular outdoor recreation spots for residents and visitors. Construction has been planned in phases to allow visitors to continue using the river throughout construction. When asked by Construction Equipment Guide about the main concerns for crews, NCDOT resident engineer Tom Veazey said, “The project’s size and complexity create several construction challenges. One of the biggest is maintaining the schedule, since many activities must be carefully coordinated and completed in the right sequence to keep the overall project moving forward. “Also, weather can be challenging in the mountains of western North Carolina, particularly during the winter,” said Veazey. “Heavy rain, snow and icy conditions can affect site conditions, slow productivity and limit the ability to safely perform certain construction activities. Crews plan for changing conditions and adjust operations as needed to keep work moving safely.” Veazey noted traffic is another major consideration. “More than 90,000 vehicles travel through this corridor each day, so protecting both the traveling public and construction crews while maintaining safe traffic patterns requires constant coordination and attention to detail. see NCDOT page 68

Heavy machinery currently being used includes excavators, dozers, off-road trucks, on-road dump trucks, foundation drill rigs, soil-nailing drill rigs, cranes of various sizes, skid steers and concrete pumps.

Early construction involved drilling work in the French Broad River, which was completed last year without incident.

Vögele’s Electric Pavers Offer Low Noise, Zero Emissions At bauma 2025, Joseph Vögele AG presented the SUPER 1300-5e, the company’s first fully electric compact paver. Its little brothers, the battery-powered MINI 500e and the MINI 502e pavers with an electrically heated screed, have now also joined the family of machines with zero operating emissions.

Paving With Zero Operating Emissions, Low Noise Whether it be official environmental standards, noise abatement regulations or sustainability goals, the demands for environmental compatibility and carbon neutrality on infrastructure projects are a constant growing challenge for construction

companies. In view of this, electrified construction equipment plays an increasingly important role in the achievement of zero operating emissions in road construction. Vögele has therefore expanded its range in the E-Power segment and is presenting not only the MINI 500e and MINI 502e mini class pavers at bauma 2025, but also is

celebrating the first public appearance of the company’s new, fully electric, compact class paver, the SUPER 1300-5e. All three models feature a battery-electric drive concept and an electrically heated extending screed. As low-noise machines with zero operating emissions, they are ideal for paving in urban settings, enclosed spaces, or in particularly sensitive areas, according to Vögele. SUPER 1300-5e The SUPER 1300-5e is the first fully electric compact class paver from Vögele, and simultaneously the first electric paver of the Dash 5 generation. In combination with the AB 340 extending screed, it has pave widths between 5.9 ft. and 13.7 ft., making it the ideal choice for small and medium scale road construction projects. The liquid-cooled lithium ion battery from Kreisel Electric has a storage capacity of 126 kWh and works with 400 V in the high-voltage range. Depending on the paving method, it provides sufficient power reserves for a full working day. High Performance Meets New Technologies With its powerful battery, the SUPER 1300-5e achieves comparable drive power and paving performance to its conventionally powered counterparts in the compact class. As a Dash 5 paver, it offers an even higher level of operating comfort, automated functions and shorter set-up times than its Dash 3 predecessor, according to Vögele. The new technologies include the ErgoPlus 5 operating concept, new assistance and automatic control systems, additional comfort features and a new lighting system.

MINI 500e, MINI 502e With Two Battery Options Vögele also is showing the MINI 500e and MINI 502e battery-electric mini class pavers. Both models are available now, with a choice of two different battery options: The standard option has a storage capacity of 15 kWh and delivers sufficient power for a full see VÖGELE page 44

Vögele Pavers Promise Fast Charging, Standard Technology VÖGELE from page 41

working day. For longer operating times, Vögele offers an alternative, 22 kWh battery option that is good for up to two days of paving without recharging. Both battery options work with 48 V in the low voltage range. In combination with the electrically heated AB 135 extending screed, the mini pavers offer pave widths from 10 in. to 5.9 ft., which enables construction companies to complete even the smallest paving jobs with a machine. Easy Charging, Standardized Battery Technology Both the electric mini class pavers and the SUPER 1300-5e can be charged quickly and easily: The mini pavers can be connected to a household socket or a wallbox. Depending on the battery version, the charging process takes around 5 to 7 hours. The easiest way to charge the SUPER 1300-5e is by using a wallbox or a charging station. With a charging capacity of 22 kW, charging takes about five hours, while the use of a rapid charging station can shorten this to only one hour. As the compact pavers use the same battery and drive technologies as all other compact e-machines from the Wirtgen Group, construction companies also enjoy the added value of synergy effects resulting from common charging procedures, maintenance and service and spare and wear parts. Rather than treating the project solely as a recycling initiative, researchers are monitoring the pavement under traffic and Nebraska’s wide-ranging weather conditions to determine how the material performs in service. “This is a pilot project, but it is an excellent opportunity to partner with a Nebraska community and test how the mixture will perform under the extreme weather conditions we have here,” said Jamilla Teixeira, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at UNL. Teixeira highlighted the South Sioux City project as part of The Science of Transportation, a national showcase of transportation research held in Washington, D.C., in May 2026. According to UNL, her research focuses on incorporating recycled plastics, recycled asphalt pavement and bio-based materials into roadway construction while maintaining pavement durability.

HCT Offers Hydraulic Kits for Excavators RB Global Appoints

Exec. Leadership, Announces Updates

HCT from page 26

“HCT kits are easy to install, have the correct components, and we’ll continue to use them,” said longtime customer Glenn F. Hydraulic Solutions for Modern Equipment Today, HCT specializes in fully integrated hydraulic kits engineered for specific excavator makes and models. The kits support attachments including hydraulic hammers, thumbs, grapples, compactors, demolition shears, magnets, mulchers and processors. The company’s goal is to provide OEM-quality fit and performance while reducing installation time, minimizing equipment downtime and eliminating costly field modifications. HCT also has expanded beyond hydraulic kits with heavy-duty excavator guards designed to protect excavator cabs while maintaining visibility, durability and ease of maintenance. The company also has established itself as a major coupler kit manufacturer in North America, drawing on decades of hydraulic and equipment experience. A national rental company that recently purchased 20 HCT excavator guards cited their ease of installation, swing-open hinge design, appearance and visibility.

Founded by David Perry in 1996, HCT started as a small, hands-on operation. Today, the company’s current 40,000-sq.-ft. headquarters is just outside Atlanta, Ga., on a 12-acre campus.

HCT continued supporting customers in construction, infrastructure, forestry, demolition, recycling and other industries that rely on heavy equipment. “We have weathered recessions, market cycles, post-9/11 and a global pandemic. Through it all, HCT has never wavered in its commitment to take care of its employees who are like family,” said Katie Wells, human resources manager.

Blanchard Machinery’s new South Columbia facility brings parts, service and rebuild operations together under one climate-controlled roof.

Blanchard Brings Operations Together, Focuses On Growth BLANCHARD from page 18

According to Blanchard, bringing those capabilities together is intended to improve consistency, efficiency and service responsiveness across its statewide operation. Focus On Customers, Workforce Customer uptime is a central consideration in the facility’s design. In addition to expanded parts inventory and 24 hour parts lockers, the facility provides dedicated loading and unloading space, increased service capacity and an integrated workflow intended to reduce repair turnaround times. “Our current Columbia campus has served us well for decades, but we have reached capacity,” Fultz said. “This facility allows us to increase service capacity, improve parts availability and create a more efficient experience for our customers.” The facility also is intended to provide a more modern workplace for Blanchard employees. Fultz said the new environment will help the company recruit and retain skilled technicians and other employees. “Today technicians have options. A modern, climate controlled workplace equipped with advanced technology helps us attract, develop and retain the next generation of skilled professionals.” The facility includes a training and conference center with seating for up to100 people. The space can be used for employee training, customer education programs, industry meetings and community events.

Future Growth Blanchard Machinery’s investment also reflects its expectations for continued growth in South Carolina. “We believe in the future of South Carolina,” Fultz said. “This investment reflects our confidence in the continued growth of the state’s construction, mining, aggregates, infrastructure, manufacturing, industrial and energy sectors.” Although located in Gaston, the South Columbia operation will provide specialized parts, service and rebuild capabilities for customers and branch locations throughout the state. The 62 acre campus includes planned expansion areas adjacent to the warehouse, service shop and specialized repair operations. Underground utility infrastructure has been installed to accommodate future building additions, and the site has sufficient acreage to expand shop space, warehouse capacity and support facilities as demand increases. Construction specifications include 8 in. and 10 in. concrete slabs using 5,000 psi concrete, seven covered loading docks and 8-ton and 12-ton bridge cranes. “This is a generational investment that will allow us to serve our customers for decades to come while giving us the flexibility and capacity to continue growing alongside them,” Fultz said. For Blanchard, the project represents more than replacing an aging or undersized facility. The company describes it as a fundamental redesign of how it delivers parts and heavy equipment service. “This is not a new corporate headquarters,” Fultz said. “This was an intentional decision to build a new parts and

service headquarters because this is our biggest opportunity to add value for our customers, employees and our business.” With its opening on Oct. 5, 2026, the South Columbia facility now serves as a central component of Blanchard Machinery’s statewide service network, offering expanded shop capacity, automated parts handling, specialized rebuild capabilities, advanced testing equipment and room for future expansion. Takeuchi Launches New Website for Easier Research, Comparison Takeuchi-US launched a completely redesigned website that makes it easier to research and compare machines, configure equipment, connect with a local dealer and access product and support information from virtually any device. The new Takeuchi-US.com is part of a broader, companywide website initiative and shares a common platform with Takeuchi’s new global corporate website. The shared platform provides a more connected and consistent digital experience across Takeuchi’s worldwide operations while allowing content to be tailored to different audiences and markets. “Our new website reflects the way we’re seeing customers access our information online,” said Stephen Odum, national marketing manager for Takeuchi-US. “Because much of our website traffic now comes from mobile devices, we wanted to provide an online experience that works seamlessly on smartphones and tablets. We also wanted to make it simpler to research and explore equipment options online, regardless of location.” Before beginning the design process, Takeuchi conducted extensive interviews with customers and other stakeholders to identify and prioritize the website capabilities that would provide the most value. The project also included close collaboration among Takeuchi teams around the world, beginning with in-person meetings at the company’s headquarters in Japan and continuing throughout the development process. “Our website was built with the same commitment to quality, reliability and attention to detail that goes into every Takeuchi machine,” Odum said. “Our goal was simple: create a digital experience that works as hard for

Takeuchi photo

our customers as our equipment does.” That research helped place equipment exploration at the center of the new website experience. Users can browse equipment by product category, with redesigned product pages that make specifications and other important information easy to find. A new machine configurator makes it possible to build a machine with specific features and options, while a comparison tool makes it easier to evaluate specifications across different models. An enhanced Dealer Locator quickly connects visitors with their local Takeuchi dealer.

The new site also features simplified navigation and expanded access to brochures, videos and support resources, along with the latest Takeuchi news and information about financing, current offers and promotions. “Whether you’re standing on a job site with a phone in hand or researching your next machine from the office, we want you to be able to quickly find the information you need and confidently explore your options,” Odum said. “The new website helps you find the right machine for your needs and take the next step by connecting with a Takeuchi dealer.” 

Excavators, Dozers, Drill Rigs On Site of NCDOT Project NCDOT from page 40

“Some work areas are extremely constrained, while the equipment needed to complete the work is very large. Careful planning and coordination of crews, equipment and construction activities are essential to maintaining safety and efficiency in these tight areas.” Crews have completed several early construction activities, including traffic shifts to provide access for bridge foundation work; clearing and grubbing in certain areas; temporary traffic paving and shifts; and installation of temporary drainage. Bridge foundation and substructure work is under way. Upcoming activities include continued grading, utility relocation, drainage and bridge construction, along with future roadway and paving operations. Early construction involved drilling work in the French Broad River, which was completed last year without incident. Crews from RK&K/S&ME placed two mobile drill platforms in the water between the Bowen Bridges and Pearson Road Bridges. Each 9-ft.-wide platform remained in the water for about three months and was equipped with safety equipment to alert river users. The drill platforms stayed in the river during the day and then moved, whenever possible, to the riverbank at night. When parked on the riverbank, rigs were secured to heavy equipment with cables. All equipment left in the water overnight or along the riverbank was equipped with marine safety lights. According to NCDOT, drilling operations were conducted as part of a design phase for the I-26 Connector project.

In North Carolina, a $1.8 billion project that includes approximately 7 mi. of interstate improvements is gaining momentum.

These operations determined the condition and elevation of the rock around the proposed bridge foundations. The team drilled a hole that extended about 50 ft. below the stream bed. Regarding unexpected obstacles during construction, Veazey said, “As with most large design-build projects, teams regularly encounter issues that require adjustments and coordination as work progresses. At this stage, many of those issues involve right-of-way and utilities, particularly because the project is being built through a tight urban corridor. The project team works to identify and address those issues as they arise, while keeping construction moving forward.” The project calls for approximately 1 million cu. yds. of excavation and grading material, while paving involves several coordinated steps to create a safe, smooth and durable

roadway. “The process typically begins with preparing and grading the roadway surface, followed by placing and compacting the required base materials,” said Veazey. “Once the foundation is ready, crews place the asphalt using paving equipment and compact it to achieve the proper density, smoothness and grade. “On a project of this size, paving also requires careful coordination of materials, equipment, crews, traffic control and timing. Maintaining the proper temperature and sequence during placement is critical to producing a quality finished roadway.” The project demands a wide range of equipment, depending on the work taking place. Heavy machinery currently being used includes excavators, bulldozers, off-road trucks, onroad dump trucks, foundation drill rigs, soil-nailing drill rigs, cranes of various sizes, skid steers and concrete pumps. Major materials used on the project include rebar, concrete, prestressed concrete girders, aggregate and asphalt. The project also requires precast wall panels, precast drainage structures, various types of drainage pipe, including concrete, welded steel and plastic pipe, and water and sewer materials. “This project is especially meaningful because many of the people building it live and raise their families in western North Carolina,” said Veazey. “They take pride in improving the community they call home and understand the longterm impact this project will have on the region. Our teams are committed to building infrastructure that makes the community safer and stronger for their own families and for generations to come.”  CEG

Researchers Evaluate Plastic Asphalt Road Performance ASPHALT from page 54

Together, these efforts are intended to help transportation agencies understand how alternative materials affect pavement performance and whether they can meet the durability requirements of conventional roadway mixtures. Putting Research Into Practice The Foundry Road installation also gives researchers and industry partners an opportunity to evaluate how the material performs during an actual paving operation. UNL photographs from the June 2025 project show shredded plastic prepared for incorporation into the pavement, along with crews placing the finished asphalt. Beyond laboratory results, practical implementation requires a mixture that can be produced, placed and compacted successfully using paving equipment and construction methods. Its long-term value depends on how well it holds up after installation. By monitoring the completed roadway, researchers can gather field data to complement laboratory findings and evaluate how the mixture responds to real-world conditions over time. Field Test, Not Complete Answer UNL has emphasized that Foundry Road is a pilot project, not proof that recycled-plastic asphalt is ready to replace conventional pavement mixtures throughout Nebraska. Instead, the installation provides an opportunity to collect performance data and assess the potential role of recycled plastic in future asphalt construction.

Nitish Bastola, civil engineering student of UNL, documents the production of asphalt made with recycled plastic bags. Foundry Road in South Sioux City, Neb.

Large piles of shredded plastic bags await being turned into asphalt.

For South Sioux City, the project has delivered a completed roadway that also serves as a long-term research site. For paving contractors and transportation agencies, the results could help clarify how recycled plastic can be incorporated into asphalt mixtures and what additional testing may be needed before broader adoption. As monitoring continues, Foundry Road will provide further insight into how the material responds to traffic, moisture and seasonal temperature changes — and whether it can deliver the durability expected of a working roadway.
