New Student Center to Improve Experience at Ohio College By Brenda Ruggiero CEG CORRESPONDENT

Students at Rosedale Bible College in Irwin, Ohio, will soon be able to enjoy the benefits of a brand new student center. The full dollar amount for the project is estimated at $3.5 million. The school has been raising money for the last number of years, and the project also has some donated labor and donated materials. The contract was awarded to Weaver Commercial Contractor Inc., Wooster, Ohio. Ron Wenger is the company president. Work began on May 21, and the anticipated end date for the project is October. Despite rains in the early spring, the project remains on schedule. The center, which will be 16,642 sq. ft. (1,546 sq m), will include a regulation college gymnasium, with basketball, volleyball, seating, and an exercise and weight room off the gymnasium. In addition, there will be a gathering place for students — a lounge area that can also be used for presentations — a full cafeteria and kitchen and several administrative offices. Wenger said that his group has seen the typical challenges that are found on any construction project, but nothing has really been out of the ordinary.

ODOT Works to Rebuild I-76 Interchange in Akron, Ohio By Brenda Ruggiero CEG CORRESPONDENT

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is currently working towards rebuilding the I-76 interchange with South Main Street and South Broadway in Akron, Ohio. The overall $149 million project involves removing the interchanges at Wolf Ledges Parkway and Grant Street. The work, which reportedly already began with the razing of buildings in the area to prepare for the roadway, is expected to be completed in October 2019. The total construction cost of the project, which is in Summit County, is $97.6 million. A minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on I-76 during non-peak travel times, and various side street closures will occur. Wolf Ledges Parkway will be closed for 180 days. Grant Street will also close for 180 days, but these closures two closures will not occur at the same time. According to an ODOT repot, the Main/ Broadway Interchange is a vital transportation element in Akron, connecting people to the various assets in the downtown area, including businesses, government agencies, and the University of Akron The current interchange configuration is not ideal due to various existing conditions, including poor geometry. The project is designed to improve safety, reduce crashes, replace aging infrastructure, and provide roadways that meet current design standards. Officials have reported that this area has the fifth highest crash reports in the state. “This work will reinvent the gateway into Downtown Akron, make it safer and serve the needs of the community,” said Allen Biehl, ODOT’s District 4 deputy director. The project involves the reconfiguration of the I-76/77 Main/Broadway interchange

ramps, relocating or modifying sections of South Main Street, South Broadway Street, East South Street, West South Street, Yale Street, Bachtel Avenue, Coburn Street, Russell Avenue, East Voris Street, West Voris Street, and Sweitzer Avenue, and the permanent closure of the I-76/77 Grant Street/Wolf Ledges Parkway interchange ramps. According to Brent Kovacs, public information officer of ODOT’s District 4, the main work for the remainder of the year is a bridge replacement over the interstate start-

ing in early August. The bulk of the work will begin in 2017 on Main/Broadway. The work on the interstate is scheduled to begin in late 2017 and early 2018. The pre-construction meeting has not yet been held. Several environmental studies were conducted. Ecological resources were studied, including wetlands, streams, aquatic and terrestrial habitats and threatened and endangered species. Based on the ecological field studies completed for the Main/Broadway Interchange

corridor, the project lies within a dense urban area in the city of Akron. Remnant natural areas are few in this urban landscape. Land use in the area is a mix of dense urban uses, including housing, commercial, transportation and light industrial. No areas or species of ecological importance were found within the project study area. (This story also can be found on Construction Equipment Guide’s website at www.constructionequipmentguide.com.) Ritchie Bros Plans for Record Pipeline Equipment Auction On September 28 to 29, two of the longest-running pipeline companies in the United States will be selling their entire fleets. More than 160 pipelayers, along with massive dozers and support equipment, will be sold by unreserved auction in Columbus, Ohio, by the world’s largest industrial auctioneer: Ritchie Bros. This will be Ritchie Bros.’ largest-ever pipeline equipment auction, with the majority of the inventory coming from Sheehan Pipeline Construction Company, in operation for more than 100 years, and Oliver Pipe & Equipment Inc., with the owner retiring after more than 85 years. The auction also features a major fleet realignment from J-Wood Pipeline Services. “There’s only been two or three auctions like this in my 37 years in this business — it’s an excellent opportunity for buyers,” said Robert Riess, president and CEO of Sheehan. “The pipeline industry is a small niche group of friends and

competitors and I think there will be many people very interested in these assets.” There are currently more than 1,300 equipment items and trucks listed to be sold, with no minimum bids or reserve prices. Bids can be placed in person, online in real time and

by proxy. “There’s still over two months to go and the inventory is building daily,” said Terry Dolan, president, United States and Latin America, Ritchie Bros. “Bidders will have plenty

to choose from. And for sellers, there’s still time to get involved.” Equipment highlights include: • 24 Caterpillar 583T crawler pipelayers • 15 Caterpillar 572R crawler pipelayers • 14 Caterpillar 594H crawler pipelayers • Eight Caterpillar 594 crawler pipelayers • Six Caterpillar 583K crawler pipelayers • Two Caterpillar 587T crawler pipelayers • 22 Caterpillar D8T crawler tractors • 10 Caterpillar D7R crawler tractors Other highlights include frac tanks, truck tractors, pickup trucks and more.
