2025 and the early part of 2026 has certainly been a fun time to be in the cattle business! Prices are way up and until the North American herd sees a big increase, we should be in good shape for some time to come. It is nice to see ranchers, the eternal optimists, getting rewarded for all their faith and perseverance in an industry that has never been easy. The optimism that comes with this is encouraging to the youth of our industry and we are seeing young people want to stay on the ranch now and make a career of it. This is vital to the future of the cattle business in Canada and great to see.
maternal instincts and docility, are all traits that are important to longevity. The best way to ensure our bulls pass on these traits is to cull mercilessly. No EPD can make up for a lack of culling in a purebred herd.

2025 brought around some changes here at the ranch. Thomas’s television station in Lloydminster closed its doors in May so his broadcasting career as a full time job is on hiatus. With Ryder finishing college at Olds, both of the boys have been home and been a big asset at the ranch. Many projects were completed and routine chores and jobs have been done without as much stress as in past years. Reese is in her second year at college in Oklahoma and will graduate with her associate degree in Animal Science with a Specialization in Ag Education in May. Jill and Reese judged a fair amount of cattle shows over the last year and Kirk mostly stays home and focuses on his Fantasy Football teams and Cattle Podcasts. Dave and Gail have fully retired and Mom has a new knee so we are excited that she will be getting more and more mobile again.
The other way to really focus on longevity is to truly test a cow herd. We have always said that you can’t make a diamond without some pressure. Challenging the cowherd, by not overfeeding for example, makes it so you can identify the standouts and, even more importantly, find the individuals that can’t make the cut. In a maternal breed like Angus, we know a lot of our bulls are used to make replacement heifers and we take that responsibility seriously. Our friends at Redline Livestock recently did the math on the cost of replacement heifers and the amount of money made for every year after her fourth calf that she stayed in the herd.
his crew know our herd well and help us with marketing year round. DLMS will once again be on site for bidding online on Sale Day. The videos will be up on cattlevids.ca as well about 2 weeks before the sale. Our Sales staff of Robert Lind, Bryon Wolters and Dory Gerrard will be with us again and will be ready for calls if you would like to be represented.
We are always available to show you the bulls prior to the sale, or we can certainly go through the offering beforehand on the phone. We have a sight unseen program where we can either bid on bulls on your behalf or use any of our capable sales staff. Our number one goal is to get the right bulls into the right situations. The bulls will all be semen tested prior to the sale and all bulls in the sale will have PASSED that test. We don’t sell deferred bulls, and we cull them pretty hard, so subsequently we deal with very few sale credits in the sale. We know cows don’t get bred by “sorries’, so we do our level best to mitigate potential problems before they leave Towaw. Having said that, unforeseen things can happen, so we keep spare bulls should problems arise. Please let us know of problems while we can still fix them; we know we can help you better than the guys at the coffee shop.

Longevity has always been a focus at Towaw; the traits that make a cow last in a cow herd are important to bulls as well. Fertility, correct structure and feet, easy fleshiness, sound udder,
In our herd we would like to use as many proven bulls as we can to take some of the guess work out of genetics. Using yearling bulls is a reality though, so delving deep into the pedigrees for longevity really helps. We purchased a bull last spring, Red ACAD Jumpstart 323M, that is out of a twelve year old cow that still looks like a five year old. Her dam produced until she was 12, her granddam produced until she was 11, her great granddam until she was 15. Old cows and proven genetics don’t make for top 1% EPDs but we feel it gives us the best chance of passing on traits that will positively affect our Customers Profits.
We are happy to have OBI Livestock involved as Consultants with the sale again this year. Mark Holowaychuk and
Please come early on Sale Day, have lunch with us, and plan to stay after the sale for some hospitality and a good visit. After a long winter it is great to catch up and see all of our Customers and Friends on Sale Day.
Sincerely,

We will deliver bulls free of charge within 200km of the sale site. Delivery will be at cost after 200km. A rebate of $100.00 per bull will be offered to buyers who bring their trailer and truck their bulls home themselves within one week of sale day. Bulls may be kept at Towaw, free of charge, until April 15, 2026. If bulls are left longer a fee of $4.00 per day will be charged. Bulls are left entirely at the risk of the purchaser and we recommend that insurance be taken.
We are selling some bulls in this sale as 2/3 interest and full possession. The 2/3 interest part means that the seller wishes to retain a 1/3 interest in the bull entitling him to use the bull through artificial insemination and sharing in any future drawing expenses and revenue of semen on a 1/3 basis. Full possession entitles the new owner to all physical rights to the bull. As in any other information, announcements from the block take precedence over any written information in the catalog.
EPDS: EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCES
EPDs are a powerful tool that is available for making genetic progress. EPDs incorporate the performance of the individual, along with the performance of all its relatives.
CE: Calving ease - higher number predicts more calving ease.
BW: Birth. A lower EPD predicts lower birthweights.
WW: Weaning. A higher EPD predicts higher weaning weights.
YW: Yearling. Higher yearling EPDs indicate greater expected yearling weights.
MILK: Milk EPD should be used to predict the milking ability of the daughters of the bulls in question. Higher milk EPDs project more milk.
REA: Rib Eye Area in sq. in. Describes difference in rib eye size.
MARB: Marbling. Describes marbling potential of calves expressed as difference in grade score.
FAT: Fat thickness in inches. Predicts difference in fat measured at the 12th rib.
CW: Carcass weight in lbs. Predicts differences in hot carcass weight of progeny.
Percentile Tables have been added to take some of the confusion out of the EPDs. A trait listed as 5% would mean that bull is in the top 5% of the breed for that trait. 49% would be slightly higher than breed average, while 51% would be slightly lower than breed average.
TERMS: Unless otherwise previously arranged with Towaw Cattle Co., terms of this sale are cash or cheque, payable in Canadian funds. As soon as an animal is sold it becomes the responsibility of the purchaser.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Errors in the catalogue will be corrected by announcements from the stand at sale time, and such corrections will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue.
DISPUTES: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.
CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer by the seller for each REGISTERED animal after settlement has been made.
DELIVERY: We will arrange delivery of the bulls to central points in western Canada and closest U.S. Port of Entry. Delivery within 200km is free of charge, outside of 200km will be at cost.
CURRENT WEIGHTS AND SCROTAL MEASUREMENTS WILL BE AVAILABLE SALE DAY
AOD: The actual age of the dam when she calved the bull offered for sale.
CE: Calving Ease, U =Unassisted
BW: Actual weight at birth
WW: Weaning weight in lbs. Adjusted to 205 days.
WI: Weaning Index - Weaning weight as a % of average WW of contemporaries.
YW: Yearling weight in lbs. - calculated as adjusted 205 day weight + (ADG on feed x 165 days)
YI: Yearling Index - Weight gain from Weaning to Yearling as a % of average gain of contemporaries.
NOTE: All Indexes are calculated within the herd.

Jentry 4J is a Black Hided/ Red Gene Carrier that we own with Ter-Ron Farms. He has bred in two breeding seasons for years for both programs and always stays in great shape. He is a masculine herdsire with a tremendous angus type head with all kinds of character. He passes on that tremendous skull structure, easy fleshing, big bodied style to his offspring. Thay have very good performance and muscle and rib shape. The black side of his pedigree is steeped in power and correctness and is an outcross to our previous genetics. Whether you want to add pounds or retain females, the Jentry sons should fit the bill.

He has two sisters retained in the herd and his full brother should be near the top of next year’s sale. You can’t go wrong with the outcross Jentry paired with the Copper Lady cow family.

He doesn’t look like a typical heifer bull, but remember muscle and masculinity comes with testosterone and maturity; it’s not there at birth.

My Argentine friend, Ricardo Orazi, from La Cabana Pastoriza, once told me that you can tell if a bull is any good just by looking at his head. I think there is some truth to that statement.

483M is the heavyweight bull of the pen, chock full of body shape and muscle. He was the number 1 bull at weaning and number 2 at yearling and is a cow bull prospect that should sire some big time performance. If we could change him, we would give him a bigger outside claw on both of his back feet. We think that he brings so many elite traits to the table that his flaws can be managed in the right breeding plan.

We purchased a half interest in Working Class as a long yearling from Anchor "1" after seeing how good of shape he was in at the end of his first breeding season. He was an $18,000 purchase in the 2021 U2 Bull Sale. He had bred for us in two seasons per year and always maintained his fleshiness. He sires low birthweight and calving ease with moderate mature size and early maturity.

The bull feeding program is built to maximize forage utilization, gut health and as a result quality sperm production. Nutritional status of a bull, particularly from the previous 60-days can affect the semen quality being ejaculated today. Sperm production is a continuous process and proper nutrition is critical to maintain peak fertility and longevity of bulls. Bull calves are generally developed on grass with their mom’s on a quality mineral program.
Once bull calves are weaned, they are slowly moved onto a balanced TMR. The bulls are challenged with a forage-based TMR to help them develop and express their genetic potential. This is important for consistency of maturation and puberty of bull calves. Sampling and analyzing
forages are important for properly balancing the overall ration. Forage quality and digestibility are important for maximizing ruminal health. Matching suitable protein sources with proper starch with the available forage sources is key to promoting lean muscle growth. The addition of organic minerals are used to ensure proper immune function and overall health of bulls. All of these factors contribute to semen quality and conception within a herd.
If you have any questions about the nutrition program, please feel free to reach out. Buy with confidence knowing the bulls have been developed on a balanced nutrition program.
Best of luck on sale day!

407N is an attractive, good haired calf with extra scrotal and a correct foot. His dam was a bred heifer purchased from Six Mile and she did a great job on her first calf. She calved at the start of the season again this year and has a very good udder. Tyson told me she was probably the steal of their sale that fall.

409N is a friendly rascal with a bit of extra frame and a good hair coat. His dam is a direct daughter of the 402E cow who is just plain good; sound footed, great uddered, feminine and functional. She is a maternal sibling to the Lot #37 bull, stay tuned to read more about how much we love that cow.

Baldrige Badger is a new sire for us this year on the black side of the herd. When looking for a new black Angus A.I. sire to use, our friend and astute breeder Brian Willms reccomended we check out Baldrige Badger, a bull that SAV had just purchased and was heavily using in their program. He is a direct daughter of the world famous Baldridge Isabel Y69 Cow, a cow that former ABS rep and dairyman Glen Felske told us was the best cow he had ever seen. He has breed leading growth, foot quality, and rib eye area. Reccomended on cows as there is a bit of BW, his sons will add power, growth, ribeye area and very good structure.

We really like this stout made, hairy, good headed scamp with a very correct foot and the #1 weaning weight in the group. His dam is a direct daughter of our donor cow, Lakima 407E, who just sold for $20,000 in the 2025 Red Roundup Sale. 408J has been a standout producer in her young career with a $15,000 son to Heart of the Valley in BC, and a replacement heifer in the herd.

4N is a very complete, easy fleshing, stout made bull with very good feet. His dam is a standout Sitz Stellar daughter with a great wedge shape and nice udder. She raised our high selling black yearling bull last year to Brewin Angus, Taber, Ab. She is a direct ET daughter of our full Argentine donor cow, 7Z, who is the dam of Lot #38.

We really like the head and masculine character in this powerfully constructed, good footed beast. His dam is a beauty; at 11 years of age she could pass as a 5 year old, and she gets it done year after year. Her 13 year old dam just calved the other day and she is good uddered and extremely correct in her structure. Not a surprise as she has HF Tiger as her sire and Indeed 104H as her Grandsire. Her dam worked until she was 17 and was a full sister to 407E mentioned in Lot #35’s footnote. How do you add longevity to your herd? Use bulls mothered by old cows!
414N is the powerfully made, muscular, cow bull of the pen. He is good footed, correct, and nice headed. His dam is a deep bodied, straight Argentine pedigreed cow that has never missed. She will calve this spring at 14 years old, and even though she doesn’t look like a teenager anymore, her genetics will leave a huge impact on our herd.

405N is a good looking, calving ease prospect with a very productive young dam. She is the product of a purchased flush from Miller Wilson Angus on their great Indeed daughter and the exclusive SSS Granite. Her first daughter was the Senior Champion Yearling Heifer at Famfair and Overall Champion Heifer at Red Roundup last fall. She sold to our friends at Red Rich Farms for $22,000 at the 2025 Red Roundup Sale.

3N is a calving ease prospect that couples a low birth weight with a small head and smooth shoulder. We went way back to use the VDAR New Trend 315 bull that pedigree hounds will really like. He was born in 1988 and was designated an elite sire with over 1400 direct progeny in the Canadian Herdbook.

Moderate BW son of 467B here. 467B is quite possibly be the best foot scored bull we ever sold that will excel in Milk, Scrotal, and feet. His dam is a hard working young daughter of Granite and our ET donor cow, Lakima 411G. 411G does everything right in our eyes; big bodied, extremely correct, good uddered, and ultra feminine. To copy a phrase from our friend Sebastien Stewart, “She is our mission statement (in bovine form)!”.

14N is a good calving ease prospect that is attractive and clean sheathed. His dam is a direct Jive 468E daughter; he is a maternal dynamo and an udder improver that we save his limited semen now only for embryo transfer work. His dam is also from the same cow family that produced Jimmy Page and McGregor.
