WHAT DOES THIS EXECUTIVE ORDER DO? This order ends birthright citizenship in the 14th Amendment for a) those whose “mother was unlawfully present in the United States and the father was not a Unites State’s citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person’s birth” and b) those whose “mother’s presence in the United States at the time of said person’s birth was lawful but temporary and the father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person’s birth.” This includes those born to both undocumented immigrants and those in the country on tourist, work, or student visas. The order prohibits federal departments or agencies from issuing documents recognizing US citizenship, or accepting documents issued by state, local, or other governmental authorities that recognize citizenship of the persons named above.
