Who is an Andrologist? Andrology is the branch of medicine that deals specifically with male infertility and sexual health problems. An andrologist is a doctor who specifically specializes in the medical domain of male reproductive health. While urologists may be able to help patients to some extent with male fertility issues, urology doctors focus more on treating urinary problems and problems of the prostate. An andrology doctor however specializes only in the medical and surgical management of male infertility and sexual dysfunction that can lead to fertility problems. Today male factor infertility issues are on the rise and its becoming increasingly difficult in solving complex male reproductive health issues. With an estimated 7% of the overall male population suffering from fertility problems we know that globally overall male fertility is decreasing.

An andrologist usually works full time in a specialized andrology clinic, were dedicated facilities are available for patients seeking male infertility treatments. A good male fertility clinic will usually have all the necessary facilities for performing both semen analysis as professionally managing std issues relevant to fertility. A good andrologist has to also play the role of a sexologist, as patients will come to the clinic with a range of sexual health issues.
